Author's Note:

This story is a rewrite of a fanfiction that I started writing back in 2015, it has been a while since then and I have grown and matured and I believe that so has my writing. This will envelop the original idea I had for the fanfiction and expand on certain areas that I believe lacked, heavily.

I'm looking to have fun with it so I cannot promise how immediate or quick the updates will be.

To add onto that - the story originally was going to contain MA content, however, as this is not allowed on , I have accounted for these rules and rewritten certain parts of the story beforehand. I'm hoping that they will be seamless, but we will see.

I hope you guys enjoy, please leave a review if you feel inclined to, criticism is welcome, however I hope that it will be constructive.

The world always had felt cold to her soul, so learning that she was being shipped off to live with her aunt now that she had come of age came as no surprise.

It was a welcome change to her life, something more simple, something more delightful. Like a bowl of lemon parfait, she devoured the emotions she felt when she learnt that she had to be packed in an hour to leave.

She didn't even bother with much - she didn't own much to start with. Her slender fingers grasped at her things gently, placing them one by one into the bags spread across her window seat.

She eyed her empty room, the light creme coloured walls empty and devoid of any art or shelves, a lonely white closet sat in the corner of her room besides her table, where the only clutter on it was some pens and her cigarettes. Her bed always made, the white sheets tucked under the mattress as the thick creme coloured blanket draped over the edges.

Unlike her rugged appearance would indicate - she was a clean person, she liked a certain order in her life, in her private space.

A knock at her door quickly broke her out of her thoughts as she picked up the four bags she had filled to the brim and moved towards the door. Perhaps as the only act of kindness in his life towards her, her father took the bags out of her arms and led the way to the car. She didn't question it - she learnt that she shouldn't question a thing he does, the end result was never pleasant anyway.

The drive to Forks took two days, her father was silent throughout the entire ride, as always, he only spoke when they stopped to stay at the motel's he had pre-arranged.

A private man, she once joked, for which she earnt a smack to her face that hurt for several days, nevertheless, he couldn't read her mind, so she was comfortable in the silence as her eyes gazed at the forest trees whiz by.

For the past few days the Cullen household had been eagerly preparing and awaiting an arrival of a young woman, only Carlisle and Esme knew of her while the rest of the family had been delighted by her aunts presence, they truly loved her, however her health hadn't been the best in the recent weeks, a rapid decline, so he vowed to keep his promise of looking after the young woman in case something were to happen to her.

The woman's aunt - Samantha, wondrous woman she was, kindhearted and strong-willed, he had yet to meet a human with so much to offer the world only for it to be cut short by heart disease.

It wasn't a pretty scene when he last went to see her, her once peachy coloured skin had been reduced to a sickly pale colour, the doctors suspected cancer and had to run tests. Something that could've been treatable if it had been found faster, but as far as the news had come to him, he wasn't sure if she'd even make it to the end of the year.

The man's eyes gazed at her case file, hearing Esme's soft steps enter the room as a gentle question left her lips, "Why don't you turn her?"

He knew she meant well, but he wasn't sure he'd be able to, "I don't think that it is a life she'd prefer to live." A somber sigh left his lips as he closed the case file, standing up and reaching out for his beloved, enveloping her into a firm hug which the woman returned as they stood quietly, holding each other in a tight embrace.

Alice's eyes watched Jasper curiously as he stood, pondering in front of the book case, her voice was soft when she spoke, "Jasper?"

"Yes, Alice?" He didn't turn around to acknowledge her directly, he was feeling quite irritated, he wasn't sure how he'd react to the human coming here, it'd been a few years since they had turned Bella. They only came back to Forks to see the patient that Carlisle held in such high regards, it was supposed to be temporary, but it was seemingly looking to become more permanent. It wasn't going to be a huge problem, they had purchased a house down in Seattle and could always run down there to make up appearances at a University or a job, but nevertheless, this place held many unfortunate memories for him.

"I don't think we're mates," She spoke, it came out more as a question, than a confident answer, but it was enough to make Jasper turn around to look at her, "Why? I'm sorry that I've been in a poor mood, I'm just not sure how I'll react to another human after we traveled relatively isolated," He explained himself, hoping that she had only been upset, but her emotions, they told him a different story.

"It's not that, Jasper, I saw a vision, there will be a man who'll come, he's somehow related to that girl..." She trailed off momentarily, "He's supposed to be my mate." A heavy weight sat upon her soul as she stood up, moving towards him, a gentle hand on his shoulder as he pulled her into a hug.

"Then I'll be happy for you, I'll support you and I'll support your relationship with him," He said, he wasn't sure what came over him, he almost felt relief momentarily, he graced himself in a feeling that in his mind was golden - Alice being happy.

He felt himself brighten up when her arms wrapped around him to return the hug, he planted a soft kiss atop of her head before she looked up, and if she had been a human, she would've cried, "I promise, we'll do everything to find your mate as well, you've been nothing but a wonderful companion all these years."

The young woman rose her eyes as they arrived at Forks, she watched the small town with curious eyes, wondering what she would've been like if she had grown up here, away from the big city and the poor influences in her life.

During the drive over she had been religiously texting a friend, Marcus she called him, although she had never been quite convinced it had been his real name, he was a little too secretive.

She didn't know whether she could even call him a friend, they had a different type of relationship, it was hard to describe in words, so she settled for friend.

It wasn't long until the car stopped in front of a white house with dark brick chimneys that seemed as if they were reaching out into the sky, to find a God or a higher being, her curious eyes took into house, it looked a little unkempt but she didn't mind.

She was quick to get her stuff out of the car, this time her father didn't help her as he didn't even get out of the car, instead he rolled down his window when she had picked up her stuff and spoke up, "I'm sorry that it had to be this way, but maybe this way you'll learn."

She didn't even entertain a conversation with him, instead she turned her back on him as she moved towards the house, placing her bags down on the front deck as she knocked on the door, yet finding no answer. She grimaced a little before she turned around, but her father was already gone.

So much for that, huh, she wondered, nevertheless, she sat down on a cushioned chair that was on the porch, she figured that perhaps her aunt had gone out. Her father had never been one to organise anything well. She could still recall the mess he made of aunt Judy's 50th birthday, oh she was mad as a bull.

She took her time, continuing her conversation with Marcus from earlier, sending him pictures of the surrounding area. Time passed quickly and it was getting dark and cold. She was growing increasingly annoyed and unsure. She had tried dialing her aunt several times but there had been no answer, perhaps something had happened?

Her eyes rose up to the road, watching less and less cars idly go by as she hugged her coat tighter around her body, she finally sighed, giving in and finding out the phone number for the local hospital as she dialed.

"Hi! You've reached Forks Hospital reception," The quirky voice said, "My name is Beth, how may I be of assistance?"

"I'm calling to find out if my aunt is at the hospital? She should be home by now, but she still hasn't arrived, I know that she has had some on-going health issues, but normally she would at least answer her phone when I call."

"I'm sorry, unfortunately I cannot disclose patient information on the phone, if you arrive in person and can prove your identity and possible relation to your aunt, I'd be happy to assist!"

"I see, no, sorry, I'm stuck a little way out of town with no transport and no way into the house, I suppose I'll wait a while longer." She heaved out as she pressed the end call button.

She sat, awake throughout the night, watching the empty road, the tree's being swayed by the wind, it was silent and peaceful, though a turmoil grew in her chest. It was becoming colder and colder as the nightfall settled and she had to be fair, she didn't fancy sitting on her aunts porch, which didn't shield her much from the elements.

A quiet sigh rocked her body as she stared down at her phone, lowering the brightness and hoping that at least she'd blend in with the night and not attract any unwanted attention while she waited for the morning to come.

She somehow felt safer about trying to hitch a ride to the town to find a motel or somewhere to stay in the morning, than she did at night.

A yawn escaped her lips as her eyes fluttered open and close, having pulled out another thick coat from her bag which she laid atop of herself in hopes of getting warmer. It wasn't long until she had fallen asleep, the hood of the coat covered her head, so she hoped that she just looked like a forgotten coat before she drifted off.

It hadn't been morning yet, she knew that much when she awoke, it was still pitch black but an uneasy feeling settled in her stomach, she tried to remain still, listening for sounds yet all she heard was a car engine somewhere nearby.

She didn't feel brave enough to peek, but soon was forced to as a voice spoke, "Tanya?" She didn't recognize it as her aunts, it was a man, but it wasn't Marcus or her father, or any of her father's friends.

Curiosity killed the cat, they say, she mumbled as she gently brought down the hood of the coat that was hiding her face. Her cheeks were a bright red as the chill had seeped in, "Hi?" She meekly said.

"I'm a friend and doctor of your aunts, Carlisle, the receptionist at the hospital mentioned receiving a call from a girl about a possible patient who hadn't been home and Samantha is our only patient currently staying the night, she informed me you'd be coming this week, but your father supposedly never specified when he'd drop you off," He explained, noticing the woman's distrust in her body language.

"Oh, yeah, that sounds very much like him," She paused, pondering for a moment before speaking up, "More importantly, is she okay?" She quickly shot up, putting the other coat on top of the one that already enveloped her body, "Can I go see her?" She questioned as her hands swept up her belongings, tightly holding onto her bags.

"Not at the moment, no, you could stay with my family until tomorrow, get some rest and I'll take you first thing in the morning as I have a shift starting at 9," He said gently, taking in her facial expression, he softly added, "Would that sound reasonable?" He was willing to accept a compromise of her staying at a motel in Forks, albeit not a great place, based on the amount of calls they got for drug related issues, it was better than outdoors in clear view of any passerby.

"I was considering walking back to Forks a few hours ago, setting up in a motel, I don't want to be too much of a bother, really." Her eyes hardened as she grew increasingly more anxious about her aunt's condition.

"You wouldn't be a bother at all, Samantha would have sleep overs with my wife Esme every weekend, she's family and by that extension, so are you," He smiled gently, hoping to make the young woman feel a bit more at ease.

"Esme as in Esme Cullen? The one who bakes amazing chocolate cookies?" Tanya questioned, excitement visible in her voice as her aunt could never stop raging about those cookies, "Honestly, if it's really not a bother, I'd be delighted to."

"It's definitely not a bother, let me help you with those, they must be heavy and you must be exhausted, it's very cold tonight, lucky that the receptionist mentioned the call." He murmured the last part to himself as he headed straight for the car, placing her bags in the trunk of it, before getting in.

"I'll dial my wife, let her know to prepare the guest room for you," He said softly as he took hold of his phone, dialing Esme, "Hi sweetheart, yes, I found her," Tanya could hear the woman on the other end exclaim loudly oh, I'm so glad! she chuckled to herself gently as she distracted herself while they spoke on the phone.

"So sorry for that, I wanted you to be able to get comfortable once we're there as quickly as possible, she'll lay out some pajamas for you, hopefully they'll be fine by you."

Tanya smiled gently, "Please, don't worry, I'll be very content to just have a warm bed for the night, I've been sitting on that porch since 3 o'clock, going by the time now, I've been there for at least 9 hours."

"We're more than happy to take care of family, Tanya," He said gently, giving the young woman a small smile.

The rest of the ride had gone on silently as they pulled up to the house. He helped Tanya pick up her bags as they headed for the door when he heard her say, "Wow, what a lovely house you guys have!"

"All Esme, she's a mastermind for this kind of stuff," He smiled proudly, his wife couldn't make him more proud, everything that she touched turned into gold, in his eyes, she may not have a special shield like Bella, or mind-reading like Edward, or even Alice's visions, but she had the special ability of making everything feel like home. A wondrous woman she is.

"Did I hear my name?" A woman called out, her body wrapped in a thick robe as she walked forward. "Dear, I was just telling Tanya about your great work with the house," Carlisle explained, moving forward to peck his wife on the cheek before she returned the peck and moved towards Tanya.

"Ah, you've grown so much!" She exclaimed, wrapping the young woman into a hug, "I remember when you were growing up, what a feisty little child you were, played rough with the boys, huh," She questioned but stopped in her tracks as she noticed Tanya's eyes, the size of golf balls.

"Have we met? Sorry, I don't have too much recollection of the past, brains a little fuzzy, huh."

"Oh please, don't worry about it, I met you when you were a tiny little thing, perhaps 5 or 6 years old? Your aunt and I were having tea while you rough housed with the neighbour boys in the sandpit." She said, a sweet smile across her face, Tanya however wasn't convinced, she normally could recall even a little bit if someone gave her a push, but she couldn't recall it at all.

"Sorry, I cannot remember that at all," Tanya blushed a little, embarrassed, as she looked down at her feet.

"Don't fret, that is alright! I couldn't tell you what I had for lunch yesterday, let alone when I was 5, haha," She humoured the girl, quickly glancing at Carlisle to show her worry.

"I suppose old age doesn't come alone, does it sweetheart?" Carlisle murmured, a laugh escaping his lips.

"You must be tired Tanya, let me show you to the guest room, I've left some towels and pajamas you can use," Esme smiled, beckoning the girl to follow, Carlisle followed suit with the girls bags as they set her up in the room.

She was feeling overwhelmed, and she couldn't tell whether it was good or bad, it may have been a mix of both, before they managed to leave, she piped up, remembering that she had to take her medication as she hadn't been able to earlier, "Sorry to be a bother, but would it be possible to get a glass of water? I have to take my medication and I have to double dose because I missed my earlier dosage while waiting out there." She blushed again, once again, she embarrassed herself.

Maybe she did deserve everything that has happened to her, maybe it was for the best that she was left here, ditched.

"Please, follow me, don't worry about it at all, you're not a bother, we're delighted to have you here," Esme insisted as she walked towards the kitchen, the young woman hot on her feet behind her, "Still, I feel bad, I can't really help it," She laughed nervously as she watched the woman.

"That's alright!" She pointed towards a closed cabinet, "This is where we keep our large glasses, if you can't reach, there's a step stool in the island cabinet that you can pull out and get up here with." She smiled softly before moving towards the sink, "Also be mindful, use the small tap for water as it is filtered water, though don't worry if you use the bigger tap for drinking water, our family just prefers the filtered water." She said gently before handing the woman the glass of water to which Tanya smiled softly.

"Thank you, Esme, really, you and Carlisle have been so nice and we're complete strangers," She said softly before Esme spoke up, "You're Samantha's niece, how could we be anything but nice to you? Samantha always raves about you, we couldn't be happier to help you out and provide a space for you to stay tonight or whenever else you may need to," Her smile never left her face as she wrapped the young woman into a hug, feeling her finally return it, she smiled, letting go, but holding onto her shoulders.

"Samantha loves you so much, she couldn't stop talking about how excited she was to have you come here! I'm sure she'll be in cloud nine tomorrow, seeing you finally after so long," Tanya just nodded, a soft smile etched into her face, "Thank you for the reassurance, I'll try to get some sleep in after I take my medicine, the cold nap wasn't very comfortable, haha..."

Her anxiety was being weird, it'd spike out and become subdued with a peaceful calm before it'd spike out again, she felt exhausted from that alone, but she didn't pay it any mind as she parted ways with Esme in the hallways, bidding her a goodnight as she retired to her room.

She dug through her bags, finding her medication as she sorted through the different bottles, making sure she was taking a double dose before placing the bottles onto the nightstand of the room.

One thing she did notice, that had made her uncomfortable, was the amount of windows in the house, thankfully, unlike the living room and kitchen, her room had curtains and she didn't hesitate to pull them close before turning off the lights in the room, dropping her clothes onto the floor while placing the pajamas away on a chair and succumbing to the soft bed, that quickly enveloped her in a warm embrace.
