Rebekah
Of course, my brothers and I are waiting for Elena before we have our family meeting. Her tardiness has become a pattern.
I'm seated on our large victorian emerald couch beside Kol. Elijah is on the couch adjacent to us. Klaus is standing front and center waiting to dictate us some more.
After a few more minutes Elena finally arrives in the foyer.
Klaus broods, "now that you graced us with your presence we can begin." I can't help smile at his comment against the human. "Anyways, we need to protect our story in this town. Which lucky for us, the town idiots thing we inherited this estate after our parent's death. Were a high-class family - it is time we have a high-class party. Tomorrow night, I made all the arrangements - well at least my hybrids did."
I'm confused. "Wait, what about the spell on the grounds?" I ask my brother who I am sure has a solution.
"My witch has deactivated the spell, temporarily that is. Elena if you're smart- you won't try anything. Black tie. Dress appropriately," he demands and then walks down the corridor.
"Well, time for me to go shopping. See you, boys, later."
I start to rise and then Elijah abruptly interrupts. "Maybe you should take Elena, I'm sure she could use a gown for the party. You two could use some bonding. After all the spell is no longer in operation," Elijah tells me.
I give him an annoyed glare. Why do I have to bring this doppelganger bitch with me?
Reluctantly, I oblige.
The two of us headed downtown to many boutiques. One in particular catches my eye.
Walking in, they have the most gorgeous and elegant gowns displayed. The dresses are fabulous. The jewelry divine.
I browse on one side of the store while my companion browses on the other. My fingers glide against the silk as I browse. The store employee follows me as I hand her anything I want to try on. The dresses begin to pile up.
I look over at Elena, she has not picked out a single dress.
"Well, are these dresses not good enough for you?" my sarcasm is beyond apparent.
"None of these are really me," she tells me.
"What boring and surface level," I release a small laugh. She ignores my jab and continues to sift through the apparel. Whatever.
Finally, I begin to try on the dresses. Elena still hasn't picked out anything. The only change in the fashion style that's for the best since the 1920s are the dresses. They tend to highlight women's features better while having a better variety. Plus their ten times more comfortable than the victorian gowns and the corset.
I get to this stunning full tulle skirt ball gown. The white dress is embellished by sparkling beadwork. There is a strapless beaded neckline that accentuates my collar bone and cheekbones. It's a dress fit for a queen. With my hair curled and a part pinned back by a floral blue hairpin, I couldn't love the dress anymore.
Elena sees me in the dress. "Rebekah you look absolutely beautiful," She smiles and I believe it is a truly genuine one. Hearing that from Elena is a real shocker.
Looking in the mirror I can't help but smile. I love it. So I change out of the dress and sit to wait for Elena to pick one.
"Haven't found the one yet?" I question her.
Elena looks down, "it's kinda hard. I mean dressing up and pretending."
"What are you pretending, as far as any of us are concerned, you've become a part of this family. Whether I like it or not."
"To pretend I'm happy. I'm not exactly here by my own free will," her words feel sad. I know she doesn't exactly want to be here. However, I know what it's like having someone keep you from being happy. And for a split second, I can relate to Elena.
"Well a pretty dress cannot do any harm," I try to bring Elena's mood back up. I browse I bit and find a beautiful gown. I pick it from the rack and hand it to her. "I think you would look so gorgeous in this one."
Elena reaches out her hands. She grips the dress and takes it from me. Lifting up the gown, she smiles. I think she likes it.
"Well go try it on," I insist. And so she does.
We return home and I head to Niks' study. He's reading in an oversized black armchair with wooden pegs.
"Did you girls enjoy your outing? Did you bond?" Nik closes his book.
"Wipe the smirk off your face Nik. It wasn't as awful as I expected," I say. He lifts half of his face showing a sign of surprise. "Have you actually spoken to the girl. I mean one on one since we took her?"
"Now Rebekah why would I bother myself with the details?"
Nik obviously doesn't get it. The feeling of being chained to another soul. It's the worst feeling. Knowing that you're never gonna get out. Plus, she was taken from everything she's ever loved. To be exploited as one does with oil or coal. A thousand years and I couldn't be more familiar with it.
"I don't know, she's not the worst," I tell Nik.
There's not much that surprises my brother. My current choice words have.
"You better get your rest little sister. We have a big day tomorrow. You need your beauty sleep," Nik tells me as he escorts me from the study.
Heading towards my room, I pass Kol talking to Elena in the main room. Ignoring them, I make my way to my bed. I turn off the lights and slip into my cozy covers. The sheets are warm as they have just been changed.
Waking up the next morning I'm a bit excited. I put on my pink satin robe and head downstairs for a quick drink before I start my day. The energy for a party like this is much needed.
Stepping down the grand staircase, I make my way into the kitchen. Blood bags fill one of the refrigerators. I grab one, AB positive, and enjoy my breakfast.
A male's throat clears. Elijah makes his way from the doorway to the other side of the kitchen. He grabs some bread and puts it in the toaster without a single word being exchanged. Elijah then spreads some jam on the toast and I begin to get annoyed.
"Not even a good morning," I scowl at my brother.
"There there Rebekah, I'm just a morning person," he grins. Elijah is already dressed in a suit despite that he will change into a tuxedo tonight. Although his style lacks any variation, at least he is the most well dressed of my brothers. However, I cannot speak for Finn as I haven't seen him in 900 years. Now that I think of it, Nik keeps promising to wake the eldest of our little bunch. Elijah is the most concerned with our brother's resurfacing. Kol couldn't be bothered. I, well, I just want Nik to keep his word. I'm sick of his empty promises.
I stood by my brother, ran with him, and not once betrayed him. Yet, he stabs me in the back for wanting to be with Stefan. For wanting love. Ironically, Stefan was the first love of mine that was friends with Nik. They even called each other brothers. It's just funny how we please him, whether out of fear or a youthful pact, and he doesn't reciprocate.
"Rebekah," Elijah wakes me from my daze.
"Sorry, what were you saying?" I ask him to clarify.
"Elena, I'm worried about the girl. She seems depressed," he says.
"I bet if we give it time Kol can cheer her up," I sip some more of the AB positive. I can tell he has become upset by that comment. Oh shit. "Do you fancy the doppelganger?"
Elijah doesn't respond. He just eats his toast. And I know. Elijah's falling for her.
