Adoption

LuLu asked for a oneshot of Emma talking to Henry about Killian adopting him.

Emma didn't know how to approach the subject. She knew it was rather delicate. For all parties concerned. Above all, her main concern was Henry and what was right for him. She didn't know how he'd feel about this idea, but she knew it was worth asking him. He might like it, and if he didn't, there was no pressure for anything to change. Emma just thought he might like to know the option was there. So she waited until she found a good moment. Until it was just the pair of them in the house and both were nice and relaxed. She made them both some hot chocolate, and got Henry talking. After a little while, she decided it was now or never.

"Henry, we need to talk." Emma told him. Henry looked on, confused.

"Isn't that exactly what we're doing?" He joked. Emma smiled.

"Well, yeah, but I mean about something serious." She clarified. "Listen…it's been a long time since your dad…passed away." Emma began carefully. "You and Killian get along really well. You gave him your blessing for us to get married and that meant a lot to both of us. Now he asked me something else, and I promised I'd talk to you about it, but whatever decision you made would be respected." Emma took a deep breath, steadying herself. "How would you feel about getting another adoptive parent?" Henry fell back slightly against the pillows. He hadn't been expecting that. Emma held her breath, waiting for his reply. Henry suddenly had a thousand and one thoughts going on in his head at once. He was trying to weigh up his options, and quickly, knowing that his mom was waiting for his response.

"Killian's a great guy, and I'm happy for you both." Henry finally began. "But him adopting me…I just don't know, mom. I don't think I can make as big a decision as that in one night. Can I have some time to think about it?" Emma reached out and took Henry's hand.

"You can have as much time as you want." She said softly. "Nobody is expecting you to make a decision on this straight away, and nobody minds what you choose in the end. We just wanted you to know that the option was there." Emma explained. Henry nodded, trying to take this in. He definitely had a hard decision to make.

I won't be writing a sequel to this one :).
