"Kate," Cassidy sipped her wine. "You're in serious denial. I've never seen you as happy as you were with Jack and the breakup destroyed you."

"It's just for Aaron's sake," Kate took a sip of wine as she watched Aaron and Clementine playing in the yard. "Besides, without trust there's no relationship."

"Why didn't you just tell him, honey?"

"I promised. I gave Sawyer my word."

Cassidy sighed and sat back into the outdoor chair. She hated that a key factor in Kate and Jack breaking up was her and her daughter. Sawyer may have wanted it secret, but Cassidy had no qualms about Kate telling Jack. She would have preferred if Jack knew, honestly.

"He'll be here today," Kate smiled. In Cassidy's company she felt safe enough to let go and smile at the idea. "We slept in the same bed Tuesday."

"What? And you didn't tell me?"

"He gave me a sedative," she frowned.

"Good," Cassidy raised an eyebrow. "It's time someone takes care of you. You were on the brink of collapse."

"I would have been fine," Kate started "but waking up in his arms..."

"In his arms?" Cassidy couldn't contain her excitement.

"I must have curled up with him while I was asleep. And he was sweet enough not to move me."

"I wonder why." Cassidy watched her daughter play for a minute before speaking again. "So he'll be over tonight?"

"Just for dinner. I'm sure it won't be until around seven—" her words were interrupted by a knock on her fence. "Probably a delivery man," she explained as she stood up.

"Jack!" Her eyes widened when she saw him. He wore basketball shorts and a tee shirt with the sleeves cut off. "You're early!" She tried to hide her panic.

"I took a half day. Figured maybe we could go to the park before dinner. It's okay that I'm early, isn't it?"

"Of course," she nodded. "Aaron was just having a play date. She lead him into the backyard. "This is Cassidy and her daughter Clementine."

"Nice to meet you, I'm—"

"I know who you are, Jack." Cassidy realized the possible negative connotation and corrected herself quickly. "Thanks for getting Kate to rest the other day. I've been on her about that myself."

"I'll always look after Kate," he said, his eyes locked on Kate's. She felt the fluttering in her heart and looked down.

"Good," Cassidy smiled.

"There's other drinks in the fridge..." Kate trailed off. Had she known Jack was on her way, she never would have opened a bottle of wine.

"Kate, you can drink wine. I'm okay, really." Jack said calmly. He wished he knew how to get Kate past this nervous phase where she walked on eggshells around him. "I'm going to grab some water, actually."

"I'm going to run to the bathroom quick," Cassidy smiled and headed inside after Jack.

Once the sliding door was shut, she turned to the doctor. "Your fight was because of me, Jack. Kate did nothing wrong."

"What do you mean?" He tilted his head.

"The night you accused her of... I don't even know what... she was with me."

"She told me—"

"Clementine is Sawyer's daughter. That's the big secret. That's what she promised him, to keep an eye out on us."

"Why didn't she just tell me?"

"She didn't think Sawyer would want you to know." She shrugged causally.

"Why are you telling me all this now?"

"Sawyer wanted it to be a secret, not me." After a moment she spoke again. "And Jack, she's still in love with you, even if she can't admit it to herself, let alone anyone else."

"Thanks, Cassidy," Jack smiled, still trying to wrap his head around all that had happened. "I mean it, thank you.

"Make it right, Jack." With that, Cassidy and Jack both headed back outside. Cassidy quickly made an excuse to leave and headed out but not before making Kate promise to call her and let her know how it goes. The comment made Kate blush, something Jack found both endearing and telling.

"Maybe we could go to that park with the duck ponds? I know it's out of the way—"

"Sounds perfect." Jack interrupted. Not only would he have a little alone time with Kate but he'd have a longer car ride with both of them.

Kate smiled and Jack remembered that same smile when they were on the island; that smile always told him that he had her.

Even after playing with Clementine, Aaron had more than enough energy to run around the park. It gave him a chance to burn off his energy while giving Jack a chance to get closer to Kate.

"I'm surprised you took a half day," Kate held a hand over her eyes, blocking the sunshine as she studied Jack.

"I figured a grand gesture would prove to you that I'm in this. I'll do anything I can to get back on track."

"Aaron is already starting to get back on track," she admitted. "It's been wonderful having you back. He loves you."

"I love him too." Jack knew Kate wasn't only talking about Aaron. He also knew he wasn't, either.

"Would you like to stay for dinner again? You could read to him—"

"What if I grill tonight? I'll take care of it all. And I'll grill you vegetables," he assured her, knowing she was a vegetarian.

"Aaron would love burgers," she giggled.

"And you?"

"I'd love to have dinner with you and Aaron." Kate took a step closer to Jack, pretending to be watching Aaron. Jack picked up on the hint and stepped closer to her, closing the gap between the two.

Before he could chicken out, Jack turned his body, cupping Kate's face and brushing his lips along hers. She reciprocated, her tongue brushing over his lower lip, begging for entry. He complied, kissing her deeply before remembering they were in public.

"That was..." she stammered with a nervous smile.

"I've missed you, Kate."

"Jack, there's still..."

"Kate, I know. Cassidy told me the big secret."

"Cassidy what?" She fired back, stepping back.

"She explained it. She wants us to move past it all..."

"All this," she waved her hands. "The dinners, the kiss... was just because you trust me now that you know everything?" Her eyes flickered in anger as her jaw clenched. "You didn't trust me then and you don't trust me now!"

"Kate," Jack said softly, hoping to avoid drawing attention to them. "It's not what it—"

"Forget it. Aaron would love to see you and you still have the key..."

"Where are you going?"

"Across the street," she pointed to a bar. "I need a drink."

Kate stormed off before he could say another word and he knew better than to talk to her when she was like this. She called to Aaron and explained she had to go, gave him a hug and a kiss and then Kate was on the run once again.
