Writer's Note:

Lara Croft has had a lot of adventures and faced many enemies as she's traveled the world on her many quests, but now, she's about to face the greatest challenge in her life: A trek through a dangerous realm while battling against demonic forces. Is Lara up to the challenge?

Sony owns Lara Croft; I'm just playing in a sand box. Have fun, Tomb Raiders...

She screamed and flailed her arms as she fell, Lara Croft didn't know how to break the fall. There didn't seem be any ledges to grab onto, she felt as if her fall would go on forever. Lara never expected this to happen, nobody ever planned on falling down bottomless holes.

Just when it looked like there would be no end, Lara felt herself touch solid ground and groaned as soon as she hit the bottom, having landed on her back after what felt like a long fall. How many bones did she break?

Lara rose to her feet, dusting herself off and rubbing her lower back. To her surprise, despite having a few aches, she was just fine. Lara stretched and surveyed her surroundings, wherever she was, this place looked ominous and creepy at the same time.

Jagged, rocky stalactites dangled from the ceiling above and small rocks lay on the barren, red ground. Lara could also see spooky and demonic faces carved into the nearby rocks, the ceiling was dark-red and the rocks were orange.

Double checking to make sure she hadn't sustained any nasty injuries or broken bones, Lara looked up at the hole in the cave ceiling she'd fallen through. It was going to be hard getting out of this place, assuming there was a way out of here.

Just a short while ago, Lara had been traversing an ancient pyramid and had just taken down a humongous, living sphinx when an earthquake occurred and the ground opened up beneath the archeologist's feet.

It was just unbelievable; Lara only hoped she would end up in a small underground cavern, not this humongous and terrifying-looking cavern. Feeling a sense of uncertainty and cautiousness, the archeologist drew her pistols and made sure she had enough bullets.

Lara took a step forward, eyeing the ground and hoping her movements didn't set off anything. In the shadows, creatures with gleaming, orange and red eyes observed her. The shapely action archeologist didn't notice, even as her skin crawled from nervousness.

'CREAK', a stalactite fell and Lara jumped out of the way, only realizing she wasn't in the line of the rock coming down. She took a deep breath and told herself to relax, something that was hard to do, especially because of this place.

Then something dawned on her, could this place be...?

Monstrously growling and wing-flapping made Lara stop and look up as she spotted something terrifying up above; A demonic bat-like demon flew down from the ceiling, its eyes fixed on Lara and its terrifying sharp teeth bared in a growl.

Lara steadied her pistol, this thing was the definition of crossing the line between cute and terrifying. The demonic bat hissed and flew at Lara, she pulled the trigger and the bullet pierced the monster's head, the creature dropped to the ground and lay dead.

Green blood trickled from the demon's wound, Lara walked around the corpse, still unsure of what was going on. She could hardly put her finger on her situation, these monsters... this place... it couldn't be what she thought it might be, could it?

Dust fell and stalactites dropped from above, missing Lara whenever they came down, mostly since she either evaded them or wasn't even near the falling ones.

As far as the archeologist was concerned, she may as well have ended up in the place apparently known as Tartarus, that sector of the Underworld in Greek legends where monsters originated from and often went to whenever they were taken down by heroes.

If she had ended up in Tartarus, the only way Lara was going to escape was by fighting demonic monsters and confronting the King of Demons. If Lara could survive ancient temples and various rogues, how hard could it be to survive Tartarus?

Monstrous snarling made Lara turn around to find a pack of one-eyed demons right behind her, sporting armless bodies, terrifying teeth and stubby feet. The Bol-demons roared, causing small drops of spit to fly from their mouths, and lunged at Lara.

BLAM BLAM BLAM! She gunned them down just like with the bat demon, watching their corpses collapse and blood pour from their wounds. The archeologist wheeled around so she could keep moving, only to find herself facing a red-eyed spider monster.

The monster eyed her hungrily, growling menacingly, and crawled towards Lara, ready to eat her. Not intimidated in the slightest, Lara shot several bullets into its eyes, drawing red blood, before kicking the creature and it fell over on its back.

Lara shot the Hellranchula in the gut, the bullets pierced its heart and the demon spider ceased movement. She walked on the creature's corpse, feeling that it was lifeless. The archeologist jumped off the Hellranchula and kept moving forward.

Before long, Lara found herself on the edge of a cliff, overlooking a pit of sharp rocks. If she wasn't careful, one misstep could lead to her getting impaled. Thankfully, the gap wasn't too big, all that Lara had to do was take a leap of faith.

She took a few steps back and ran forward, gaining enough speed that, when Lara jumped over the pit, she made it to the other side and did a somersault as she landed. No sooner than Lara made it across the gap, she found herself being dive-bombed by bird-bat demons.

'KRAAAAAAAAWK!' The monsters shrieked. Lara drew her guns again and fired at the birds. Soon as the demons went down, a rock monster demon woke up and spotted Lara. The creature roared so loudly, it shook the cavern and rattled Lara's ear drums.

Lara tried to shoot the Roke'mahn, only to learn that bullets had no effect on the beast. Coming up with another idea, Lara pulled out a bomb as the demon got closer. When its mouth opened wide, she threw the explosive into her enemy's mouth.

'Mrrr.' The rock demon grunted, closing its mouth and realizing what was happening, Lara ran past the monster and ducked for cover behind a rock. The bomb exploded, decimating the Roke'mahn, Lara came out of her hiding spot and dusted herself off again.

'Hissssss.' The archeologist heard the sound and noticed a giant snake crawling out of its lair, red eyes blazing and fangs bared. The snake spotted her and hissed viciously, before slithering towards her, eager to eat Lara for its next meal.

The British archeologist pointed her gun at the snake, aiming for its head and fired off several bullets that took out the snake's eye and then nailed it in the head. The snake's movement slowed and then, the creature stopped, just mere inches away from biting Lara.

Smiling with confidence, the shapely English woman kicked the snake demon gently and walked past it, heading deeper into the depths of this terrifying place. Lara walked through a tunnel, ignoring the hideous facial carvings in the walls.

Demonic bats, Hellranchulas and other monsters emerged from the shadows and attacked at one point, trying to either bite or sting her. Lara stayed calm, maintaining her bravery, as she shot down her attackers without even blinking.

On the other side of the cave, a demonic and red-eyed Cyclops-gremlin waited for Lara, snarling just like the other monsters before going in to attack her. Lara kicked it away with one martial arts kick, knocking it into a rock, before shooting it in the head.

Lara looked around, seeing that her surroundings had changed. While she still saw barren ground and various rocks, Lara could now see a red, misty sky and a couple volcanos spewing out lava that created lava pits.

'Best to be careful here.' The archeologist thought, wiping some sweat off her forehead brought about by intense heat. She continued onward, walking around demonic rocks, which looked like demon eggs, and made sure to avoid accidently stepping in anything.

She came across a river of boiling lava and jumped on a loose piece of ground floating on the magma, then she leaped onto a tall rock and made her way over to solid ground. Lara made sure to be on her guard, just in case something happened.

The air felt boiling hot and smelled toxic, so toxic that Lara started to cough. She had to find a way to escape this horrific world, Tartarus was no place for a woman like her. If she survived, it was going to be hard forgetting it.

Lara knew she'd probably have dreams about this for the rest of her life, while Lara had been on many adventures over the years, she'd never experienced something like this; an adventure in the depths of Tartarus where everything was out to get her.

She put a hand up to her head, trying to get rid of a slight headache caused by the air. Lara almost felt sick, the front and back of her tank top was becoming drenched in sweat and her legs were shaking and sweating. This could not stop her, Lara could not give up.

When this was over, she was going to have to go for a long swim and take a warm shower, that usually helped her relax. Lara held up her pistols, her instincts warned her of immediate danger.

'GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!' A swarm of demons emerged from various hiding spots, teeth gnashing and monstrous eyes fixed on Lara. A pack of eye-less Devil Bats flew in, trying to bite her, only to get shot down.

A winged monster dive-bombed the British action girl and several rock or ball-shaped demons scuttled towards Lara, eager to bring her down. She noticed quickly and shot them in the head or the eye or the heart, putting the demons down.

A Hellranchula pounced, eager to make Lara its dinner. BLAM! 'SKREEEEK!' Lara shot the spider demon and it rolled over; blood poured forth as the creature's life ended. Lara went all-out, gunning down demons everywhere, fighting to survive against the monsters.

Lava pools rippled and humongous, horned fire monsters rose from the magma, breathing fire, and reached out to grab Lara. She shot the lava demons, taking them down and stopping the creatures from burning her alive.

"HI-YAH!" Lara kicked a demonic humanoid that was taller than her and punched it before shooting it. The Demanoid staggered back, falling into a pool of lava where the creature was reduced to molten ash.

"AH!" Lara cried as a gremlin demon pounced and dug its claws into her. She acted fast and judo flipped the monster down in front of her, drew up a pistol and shot it in the face.

Lara looked around, making sure there were no more demons to fight for now. When it seemed the coast was clear, she walked around the corpses she'd made and hopped across a lava pit over to more solid ground towards a humongous mountain that sat just up ahead.

Hopefully, this would be where the nightmare ended. Lara checked to see if she had plenty of bullets left and that her guns were in peak condition. Thankfully, she had enough and her guns were in peak condition.

As she got closer to the mountain, Lara stopped and drew her gun, she felt like she was being watched. Looking up at the top of the mountain, the archeologist almost gulped when she spotted a towering figure looking down at her.

The figure slowly descended, emerging from the mist that encompassed the mountain. The giant got closer and Lara caught her glimpse of her final foe; The humanoid had red eyes, pale skin and fiery hair and wore dark-red armor and a horned brown helmet.

"You have done well, making it this far, Lara Croft..." The King of Demons said in a chilling voice, speaking in English, "I didn't even think you would, you're stronger than I thought. But now, you face Kaltorog; Lord of Tartarus and King of Demons."

Kaltorog drew a demonic staff and said, "Prepare yourself!" The Overlord of Tartarus raised his weapon and brought it down in an attempt to hit Lara, she dodged out of the way and evaded before firing off her first shot at the monster responsible for all of this.

"Ugh!" Kaltorog groaned as the bullet pierced him, he looked at Lara and opened his mouth, getting ready to breathe fire. Coming up with a plan and hoping it was worth it, Lara threw a bomb into Kaltorog's maw, causing him to cough as he swallowed it.

As the bomb neared the Demon King's stomach, Kaltorog resumed his battle and tried to knock down Lara, even as she sidestepped and rolled out of the way of his attacks. Oh, she hoped to Heaven that her plan worked.

Lara fired a shot directed at her foe's head, stunning him. Before Kaltorog could recover and continue fighting, the bomb exploded inside him and he doubled over. Kaltorog moaned in pain and clutching his stomach as he dropped to the ground.

"You've defeated me," Kaltorog groaned, looking at Lara, "You are a formidable foe, since I have been defeated, you may leave my domain. It is over, you have passed the Trials of Tartarus, ascend my mountain and pass through the gate for it will take you home."

Silently nodding, Lara ascended the mountain and left Kaltorog to lay on the ground in pain. The hill was huge, but she could see the red gate at the top. All she had to do was pass through it and then she would be home, Lara coughed again, she needed fresh air badly.

Lara walked closer towards the gate. She could see a bright light coming from it, the light that would lead her out of this nightmare. Setting foot on the summit of the mountain, the British archeologist walked through the red gate and into the light...

She blinked as the light faded, finding herself lying on the ground again. Lara could feel grass beneath herself and saw a bright blue sky. She sat up and saw her mansion nearby, she'd made it, she was home. The archeologist stood, breathing in the fresh air.

Filled with happiness, Lara walked up the steps and opened the door, setting foot inside the foyer of her home. After what she'd gone through, Lara was happy to be home. But, before she could do anything else, Lara needed a refreshing swim, a warm shower and a nice cup of tea...

The End
