Dentist

Christy asked for a oneshot of Neal freaking out about his first dentist's appointment because he's heard how scary they are. He freaks out when he gets to the office.

Dentists were bad. Every cartoon, kid's movie and comic book will tell you so. They're mean and enjoy causing little children pain. So when Neal found out he was going to go for his first check-up appointment with Storybrooke's only dentist, Doctor Nadler, he was petrified. Snow and Charming could have kicked themselves for not introducing their son to dentists sooner. Now his head was filled with horrific nonsense. They did their best to undo the worst of the damage in the week they had, but they weren't sure it made much of a difference. Certainly when they arrived as the surgery, he was freaking out.

"Is this Neal Nolan?" Rose, the receptionist, asked. Snow and Charming smiled and nodded politely. "Excellent. If you just take a seat Doctor Nadler will be with you shortly."

"Thank you." Charming said, steering Neal over to the waiting area. "Look Neal, they've got toys. Do you want to play with some while we wait?" Neal shook his head, burying into his dad's chest. That mean man was going to take all his teeth out one by one! Snow and Charming frowned at each other.

"It's ok, sweetheart. Doctor Nadler is lovely. You'll see." Snow assured him. Neal just huffed. He didn't believe her. All dentists were horrible.

Far too soon for Neal, he heard a door being opened.

"Neal Nolan?" A man called. Charming made Neal get up and took his hand, taking him into the next room where a scary, big chair sat. "Why don't one of you sit with Neal on the seat. It can look awful scary." Charming got settled onto the seat with Neal on top of him. Neal looked up at the doctor, shaking. He saw that the man was smiling at him…but not in the way Neal had expected. It was a nice smile, a kind smile.

"I know this is all different." The doctor said gently. "But I promise, nothing is going to hurt. So can you open your mouth nice and wide for me and we'll see how those teeth of yours are doing? I'll bet you take real good care of them, huh?" Neal nodded. "Excellent! Well, let's have a little look then." Neal did as the man asked. He poked around his teeth with some weird looking metal things, but like he promised, nothing hurt. "Ok, that's you Neal. You must be brushing those teeth really well because there are no cavities! You and your daddy can get up now. We'll have Rose give you a sticker for being so brave." Neal smiled happily, toddling out into the reception again to get his sticker, as well as a (sugar free) lollipop. Maybe this wasn't so bad.
