Irreversible damage- part 2
I'd rather live in books asked for a oneshot of a sequel to Ch2183 "Irreversible damage" where Emma volunteers to be a surrogate for her parents.
Guest(x3): Sorry, but I'd already wrote this before your requests came through. (Also, I've already written Snowing adopting a child from this realm :) )
I would just like to take a moment to say how incredibly grateful I am to the FF community, particularly right here in the OUAT archive. I have found so much support, made so many friends, through these little stories of mine and I cannot be more grateful to you all for what you've got me through. Thanks guys, JMAMK.
"This is my fault." Emma croaked. She had just been told by her parents the reason why they hadn't expanded their family, as they had planned to. "If I hadn't let Zelena get my magic. If I had saved Neal then…"
"Hey." Charming could see that Emma was beginning to spiral out of control. He quickly got up and pulled her into a comforting hug. He and Snow were still hurting from the news, but that didn't mean they were going to let their daughter start blaming herself. "Emma, this is not your fault. You were doing your best to save Neal. You couldn't have known this would happen. Besides, Whale told us this isn't the end of the road. Not if we don't want it to be." Emma pulled out of the hug, confused. Her mom couldn't have any more babies. What options did they have?
"Well, there's adoption." Snow said, answering Emma's unspoken question. "But if we really want to have another biological child we could go down the surrogacy route. Although I can't see many volunteers queueing up to carry another woman's child." Snow laughed bitterly. Her and Charming weren't sure what they were going to do. Did they really want another woman carrying their child? They weren't against adoption, but it wasn't exactly easy to bring a child from the outside world into Storybrooke. What happened if they returned to the Enchanted Forest? Would an outside child, with no blood ties to the other realm, survive? Nobody could know for certain.
"I'll do it." Emma piped up. Snow and Charming looked at her, astonished. "No matter what you say, part of me will always feel to blame for your situation. I know it's not exactly a conventional situation, but if you two want another child, I'll be your surrogate." Emma promised them. Snow and Charming's hearts warmed at Emma's offer…but that lead them onto the next thing they had to tell her.
"Sweetheart, we don't have words to express how grateful we'd be for that…but there's something else you need to know." Emma fell silent as Charming took her hand and led her over so she was sitting between her parents. Snow took Emma's other hand. How did she even begin?
"Whale told us something else when we were at that appointment…something that could affect you." Snow explained. Emma didn't understand, how? "This…condition that I have. There's a chance it's a genetic variety. Emma, sweetheart, you could have this too." Emma blinked rapidly. Charming placed a steadying hand on her shoulder.
"But…I already had a kid." Emma croaked. Snow placed her hand on Emma's cheek.
"I had two." Snow reminded her. "It's about a trauma occurring. I'm not putting you at risk of not being able to have any more of your own for us. It's not happening. You deserve your happy ending too, Emma." Emma's head was spinning. This was a lot of new information to take in during one afternoon.
"Could it already be in effect?" Emma asked. "Henry's birth wasn't exactly a walk in the park."
"We can't answer that." Charming told her. "We don't even know if you are affected yet." He reminded her. Emma nodded shakily. Snow pulled her daughter into a hug.
"It's going to be ok." She promised her. "You'll see." Emma didn't respond. She didn't know what she was thinking.
