Starting from scratch
A guest asked for a oneshot of Emma calling her parents by their real names in public just to piss them off because they have annoyed her. Neither can take it anymore so confront her about it.
Lily: Thanks for your support. I haven't stopped, I just haven't had any requests to write :). As for finding that chapter, sorry, but I can't help you find it. I know it's in there somewhere as I can remember writing and posting it. Good luck.
I'd like to give a little shoutout to justanoutlaw. Go check out her stuff guys (on here or A03), especially her story "The lost get found". As someone with a mental health disorder, I would like to praise her for her portrayal of Emma having depression. It's seriously amazing guys and it's well worth a read.
The problems of being a royal family with such a big age gap between the princess and the prince were pretty diverse. One such problem came about every few months when there was a town meeting. As most of the town was at said meeting, there was nobody available to babysit two-year-old Neal. That particular meeting was Emma's agreed turn to babysit her brother and miss the meeting. She only remembered this the day before and kicked up a stink, knowing important police business would be discussed. Snow and Charming pointed out to Emma that she had agreed to this schedule and she would be sticking to it. After all, a time may come soon where Emma needed her parents to babysit small children of her own. Emma was still furious with both of them. Why should she look after their kid and miss out on important information?! Sure, they had promised they would pass on anything she should be aware of, but it wasn't the same as hearing it first-hand and they knew it.
It had started with the cold shoulder when they got home. Emma's mood with her parents only improved marginally over the next few days. One of the main ways she had left in her arsenal for showing her parents she was still mad at them was calling them by their first names. Names were power, and Emma knew it. It had been years since they had been Snow and David to her, now after one fight they had regressed back that far in their relationship? Snow and Charming mutually decided to ignore Emma's churlishness to begin with, hoping without her getting attention it would correct itself…but it didn't. Almost a week later and Emma seemed to be back into the habit of it. Snow and Charming couldn't lie that it hurt. They were still her parents; one fight didn't change that. That evening over dinner at Granny's, Charming finally had enough.
"Am I suddenly cursed again?" He asked Emma quietly. She looked at him, confused.
"What's that supposed to mean?" She asked.
"Well, when we were cursed, we lost you. You had no idea who either of us really were. Now suddenly after years of being mum and dad, we're back to Snow and David. So answer me Emma, are we cursed?" Emma sat in silence for a moment.
"No, you're not." She answered eventually. She looked down at her plate. "I didn't know how to start calling you mom and dad again. I made such a fuss about that stupid meeting. At first I was only calling you by your names because I knew it would annoy you. It's stupid, I know…but I was just so mad. Then I didn't know how to go back again. I thought I had mucked everything up and it was best if I started all over again." Emma admitted. Snow and Charming looked at each other, heartbroken. How could Emma ever think she'd have to start all over with them? Snow placed her hand over Emma's.
"Emma, look at me." She asked gently. Emma complied. "It was a stupid fight, you're right about that, but you never have to feel like you have to start all over with us." Snow reminded her. Charming took Emma's free hand.
"We're your parents Em. If you'd just spoken to us properly we could have had this whole situation put to bed days ago." He sighed. "We hate fighting with you just as much as you hate fighting with us. You're our kid, and we're proud of it. So there's nothing awkward to tiptoe around. Just please, stop calling us by our first names? We're your parents, not your roommate and her boyfriend anymore." Emma nodded.
"You're right dad. I'm sorry." She added quietly. Charming squeezed her hand, relieved to finally hear his proper title from her again.
