Chapter 9: Reborn
Nessie's POV
I stumbled around unsure of what direction I was heading in. The only thing that I knew was that the fire in my arm was getting worse. I couldn't go back into town. I didn't have the strength to make the drive back.
I saw a cave not to far away from where I was standing. I could go and hide there while I waited for the pain to pass. The fire continued to grow hotter and hotter. I knew that if I didn't move now I wouldn't have the strength to move for much longer.
I stumbled and tripped a few times as I walked. Until I finally made it to the cave. At least the cave was empty. No animals appeared to have made this p place their home. At least for now.
The pain suddenly grew ten times worse and I collapsed. I bit my tongue to stop myself from screaming out loud. Tears blurred my vision as I tried to inspect my arm. I knew that it was too late. This was the begging of a painful conversion into a vampire.
I closed my eyes and tried to block out the pain. A task that was of course impossible. All I could do was lay there and wait for the pain to end.
I wasn't even aware of time passing anymore. Soon the only the pain consumed my thoughts and I couldn't think of anything else.
A flurry of images suddenly flashed across my mind. Only they weren't just images. They were memories. Memories that had been long forgotten.
I was surrounded by darkness as I struggled to breathe. Then I was pulled out of my dark, wet enclosure. I gasped for breath. My daddy was smiling as he looked at me.
"It's Renesmee," he said.
"Let me...give her to me," I heard another voice say. I recognized the voice as my mommy's voice. She looked terrible. But I knew that she was happy to see me. She loved me as much as I loved her.
I met the rest of the family soon after. I remember how everybody kept fussing over me. Especially Jacob. My Jacob.
Everybody was worried about me because I was growing so fast. Grandpa used to measure me several times a day to see how fast I was growing.
Soon after that we found out that the Volturi was going to come for us because they thought I was an immortal child. I was scared about what was going to happen to us. Especially after aunt Alice and uncle Jasper left.
My mom would comfort me by reading me stories at bedtime. Then one night she ran out of stories to read to me. So I asked her to tell me about how she met my daddy. She told me about everything that happened all the way up until they got married. Even the part about the newborn vampire army. Daddy didn't like that mommy had told me that story because he thought I'd be scared. But I wasn't. I loved mommy and daddy's story so much that I kept asking mommy to tell me that story every night. Until I could repeat it from memory.
The day finally came when the Volturi were supposed to arrive. I was so scared about what was going to happen. I remembered mommy telling me that I might have to run away with Jacob of things got really bad. But they didn't. They left and we were able to live in peace.
A few months later we went to visit the Denali family in Alaska. I was out hunting with my family when I wandered off. I was about to pounce on a deer when something hit my back really hard and I lost consciousness.
When I woke up I was in the back of a van. I could tell that we were moving from the way the car would move whn we hit a speed bump. My arms were tied behind my back and there was something in my mouth.
I realized that I was not alone when I heard a strange noise. There was a boy tied up and gagged just a few feet away from me. He looked as scared as I felt. There.
were a lot of other little kids back there as well. The boy closest to me was the most scared. He was the little boy that would eventually become my brother Nick.
I helped free him and the rest of the little kids also.
A sharp rise in pain stopped the flashback in its tracks. The pain wasn't just in my arm anymore. It had traveled to the rest of my body. I could feel it in my from my toes to the tips of my fingers. The pain was inescapable.
Then finally I could feel the pain begging to fade in some parts of my body. I could feel it fading in my legs, my arms, and even my chest. My heart was racing against the venom. Then suddenly the pain vanished altogether.
My heart was still beating. Which was odd because by all accounts my vampire conversion should be finished now. My heart shouldn't still be beating.
Their was another pain though. A different kind of burning pain in my throat. A pain that I could not ignore. I could hear the river in the far out distance. I ran to it as fast as I could. I was shocked by how fast I was running. I stopped right before the river and knelt down and just as I was about to take a drink I gasped when I saw my reflection.
My skin was just as pale as every member of the Cullen family now. Every physical feature on my body had been enhanced and perfected. But what stood out the most was the flaming red eyes.
My phone rang and for the first time since waking up I looked at it. I was surprised by the date and time that I saw. It had been two days since I left the house to go hiking. I had hundreds of missed calls from every member of my family both human and vampire. Countless text messages from everyone. My voice-mail box was full.
Two days I've been missing. Nobody knew where I was since I hadn't told them where I was going in my rush to get out. So nobody knew where to look.
I looked at my reflection once again and saw the flaming red eyes. My heart still beating.
