Just when you thought it was safe to have Valentines Day…..

:}

Beck held his breath, just a moment longer, before hitting the call button. 'Never in a million years thought I'd be calling them, but…' He released his held breath, waiting for the phone to be answered. 'I just hope I catch them in a good mood.'

The sound of the phone ringing seemed to echo in the morning quiet, the temporary normal while the rest of his household was resting, or out. Beck knew he had time, as long as he was relatively quiet. 'Just as long as this doesn't get heated...'

"DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT FUCKING TIME IT IS?!" Jade's screech threatened to wake his neighbors, and he held no illusion about the malice behind those words. Beck had to resist the urge to run, holding his ground as he tried to speak to his ex.

"Sorry, sometimes I forget the time difference between us." He apologized, smirking at the lie. 'Amazing how I used to be so honest. Has being in a relationship really made me that sneaky?' He glanced back towards where the apartments bedrooms were, where the one he was worried about disturbing, maybe demanding his attention, was keeping occupied. He hoped the sound wasn't loud enough to draw attention, because he really needed to do this now, without alerting everyone in the home. Hoping for a few more moments of peace and privacy, he pushed forward. "I just assumed you'd already be up. I mean, it's nine AM here in New York."

"Three fucking hours!" Jade growled. "Three fucking hour time difference. God, it'd almost be worth the three thousand miles I'd have to cover to go remind you that some of us sleep in." Jade growled. "Painfully!"

'We'll, she's in a pleasant mood. Tori's been good for her.' He let that thought go, focusing on his goal. "Is Tori there?"

"No, she left for aerobics." Jade tried sarcasm. "She's here, hugging her pillow, trying for that last half hour before she usually gets up."

"No, I'm awake." Came from the other end of the line, the kind of muffled sound of someone not on the phone talking.

"Put her on speaker." Beck instructed. "I need something."

"Your teeth kicked in?" Jade asked, only for the sound of Tori's reaction, a quick, semi-playful slap, letting him know they were now on speaker. "What was that for?"

"We don't threaten our friends." Tori warned.

"We do when they call at six in the chizzing morning." Jade shot back. "Waking us up from a sound sleep, no time to slip back in bed, cause hello, our days gonna start soon."

"I seem to recall someone screaming woke me up." Tori shot back. "Besides, I'm sure Beck has a good reason for waking my cranky girl up at this ungodly hour."

"I'm calling in my marker." Beck announced, bracing for the response.

"What marker?" Jade asked, and Beck could almost imagine her trying to sound even more dangerous. He'd have laughed, except he suspected she would travel across country just to get him if he didn't actually have something worthy of the disruption of their lives.

"How many Valentines day gift exchanges did I talk you through?" He asked. "And then, after saving your proposal, cause you two had to make everything a contest, who was it who saved your wedding. You remember your wedding, when I discovered that Jade was the reasonable one? Let me ask you, who was it to convince the wedding planner that he didn't have to flee to Canada, cause he was sure Tori had contacts in Mexico?"

"I may have gone a touch overboard." Tori admitted. "But I only planned on the one wedding, so might as well make it special."

"A piece of paper doesn't change anything." Jade groaned, and Beck tried not to imagine the argument they were on the edge of having. Mostly, because he suspected Jade was naked, and he was in a monogamous relationship. "I love you, plan on being with you for the rest of my life. Our wedding day, that was just me giving in to pressure, plus nothing says I marked that territory like a frigging ring." He could feel her smile. "That's no reason to rampage, destroying a mock-up of Tokyo I had made just for the occasion."

"Didn't appreciate the joke." Tori reminded her.

"I was the one who was gonna rampage." Jade assured her. "It's what everyone was expecting anyways. I felt, that would have been a funny vignette to send as part of our wedding day video. Just something to lighten the mood. Only my sweet wife chose to go nuts, stomped the set, all because she discovered one little complication."

"Yea, how is Brandon, anyways?" Tori shifted. "Sixteen months now, right? Betting he's talking up a storm, climbing and everything. Trina was a climber, so I know my nephew has to be too." Any annoyance she may have felt seemed focused elsewhere. Tori wasn't the type to blame a child who was only conceived on her special day.

"Just like that, we're back to my issue." Beck said, relieved to be back on track. He knew how easy it was to get distracted, especially when Jade was just waiting to hijack the conversation, make it about whatever crazy she'd been obsessing about lately. "As you know, that wedding was traumatic for me. Found out my girlfriend had issues, and broke up, only to be seduced by Trina, which I admit I never once considered possible. But we did, and she wound up pregnant. THEN, we danced around one another until Brandon was born, when we decided to live together."

"Nice synopses." Jade deadpanned. "Like we weren't there, dealing with the consequences of your fallen pants."

"And now, you plan on marrying her?" Tori sounded so hopeful. "I'd recommend proposing on Valentines day. Unlike my beautiful and cuddly wife, my sister is a bit of a romantic, and would love a ring to add to her accessories."

"No, not getting married." Beck countered. "We're actually happy just being together. You know, raising our son, and planning on expanding." He caught himself from admitting there was already another one on the way.

"He's worried about what happens if she says no." Tori interpreted. "He shouldn't worry, they have a child together, so she has reasons to stay with him."

"She has options, now that we've made her a celebrity." Beck said, sounding oddly worried. "Famous people can be a little odd, because people wanna be with famous people."

"All it took was Shapiro's jokes, a daily talk show, and loads of broken but interesting people for her to talk to." Jade tossed in. "Yea, she's loving it. Plus, she recently announced…"

"Baby number two." Tori finished.

"I wish she'd have waited." Beck said. "Three months is recommended, cause that first trimester, that's where a load of the miscarriages happen."

"Only she has a high chance of carrying to term." Jade said. "One complete already, and the second, well cared for, on the way. I swear, her parents home has more photo's of the embryo then my family had of me, including my mug shots. I Mean, really, they could have paid for any one of my school pictures, but they went for the free pics." Jade sighed. "But yea, she's reproduced."

"A fact she lords over me every time we talk." Tori groaned. Then, in a whiny voice, added "Up to two soon, and you haven't even started yet."

"Babe, we shouldn't make fun of the way people talk." Jade said. Beck could imagine Tori's wild swing in return. Only, when he didn't hear Jade's flesh being struck, or the bed, he changed his opinion of what was happening.

"Yea, that sounds like pre-sex teasing, so I'm gonna interrupt and ask, what can I give her for Valentines Day to let her know how much I love her and the new life we've been forging here in New York together?" The boy was holding his breath, not daring to smirk, because he suspected Jade had ways of reading his face, even over the phone. 'The real reason I decided to use the traditional phone, regardless of what they may think, cause what they're hiding, I've seen half of it already.'

"Anything romantic." Tori said, sounding frustrated. "As I've already said, Trina loves that chiz."

"Except, Brandon, as much as I love my son, we don't exactly have any in-laws convenient to watch the boy." Beck replied.

"NO!" Jade's voice had that finality she was famous for.

"Only you owe me." Beck reminded her. He imagined Tori, looking confused, wondering why the blue eyed girl had guessed at what he wanted.

"Stop smirking." Jade snapped.

"I wasn't…" Tori started.

"Not you, Beck." The goth corrected. Beck, for his part, had to end his smile, because once again, she'd guessed his action from across the country.

"We're over the phone." Tori noted. "How could you tell…"

"His voice." Jade informed. "We had that 'I so got you' voice of his. There's a whole smirk thing that goes with. Kinda like your excited news walk. He feels like he's in control, and gets that smirk."

"He…" Tori seemed to be looking for something to say.

"Yea, she got me." Beck admitted. "And here I was, thinking I was so clever, not using video chat." He sighed. "Besides, I know Jade's naked." Mentally assuring himself 'Might as well let them know I know her as much as she knows me.'

"I'm not naked, perve." Jade growled.

"Besides, she can always put on a robe." Tori added. "But her tits do look nice right now…"

"Focus." Jade said.

"Then put those nipples away." Tori replied. "Hard to concentrate with you flashing those about."

"And you haven't had kids yet why?" Beck joked. "Wait, sorry, still need that favor from you. Just…" He inhaled, but wasn't sure how to actually ask.

"We'd love to fly three thousand miles just to watch my nephew so you two can have a romantic evening." Tori said.

"Assuming you live to see that day." Jade added.

"Jade, down." Tori ordered, but the argument was just starting.

"Man, I wish you two could get romantic without the fighting." Beck groaned, only to hear the line go dead. "And they're off."

"But at least they're coming." Trina teased. As the boy spun, finding himself looking at his lover, standing in the entry way of the room, holding their son.

His mind reeled, and the first thing he thought was "is the television still on?' He knew he had to say something. "I thought you were out." Beck stammered, showing he was capable of being taken off guard.

"And you think, for a moment, I didn't feel that scream?" Trina asked. "I came back early, to check on Brandon. Plus, I knew you were up to something." She gave him those suspicious eyes. "Only thing is, yea, I kinda agree, it's time our little man got to know his aunties again." She walked closer, hefting the boy. "In addition to walking, and running, and hardly ever being able to stay still for a moment, he's talking now. He's almost up to ten words, words he sometimes uses correctly. Still hilarious when he called you mommy. Less so when he called the door man mommy though. Still, the boy is soaking up knowledge like a sponge, only a mater of time before he's using his language correctly, or close enough for us to communicate."

"That reminds me…" She placed the boy on the floor, to play with his toys when she talked. Her brown eyes narrowed as she closed in, conspiratorially. "We need to make a list of the words my very vocal sister in law isn't supposed to use if he's even possibly listening. Same state is questionable. I feel we should be excited about each new word he learns…"

Beck sighed, again. 'So much for the big Valentines day surprise…' He thought as they got into their discussion of just how the whole family visit was going to be handled. 'Should have just arranged for her parents to come visit. Cost more, but save me so much headache.'
