Knighthood
A guest asked for a oneshot of *mid-season finale spoilers!* Emma proudly watching as Henry is knighted by his grandparents.
I couldn't believe the day was finally here. My little boy, my little prince, and now, my little knight. This had been Henry's dream since he'd seen his grandfather leading the troops. He was so desperate to prove himself to be a proper royal. I had never really revealed to him all the details surrounding him birth, I saw no point in upsetting him, but I did not lie to him either. But Henry was wise. He knew whoever his father was, he wasn't a royal or a nobleman. I had tried to point out to him that the grandfather he admired so much was a shepherd before he married his grandmother, but that only spurred Henry on more. He'd heard the tales of how my father had proven himself worthy to the kingdom, so now he had to as well.
Now here I was. My little boy had completed all the tasks set to him to prove him worthy of becoming a member of the kingdom's guard. I had been so worried. Some of the tasks could be fatal, and Henry was still so young…but never matter. He had done us all proud.
My heart swelled with pride as he knelt before my mother, his new armour sparkling under the sun's rays. I could see that my parents were just as emotional as I was.
"Prince Henry of Misthaven. Do you promise to serve this kingdom with valour?"
"I do, Your Highness."
"Do you swear to protect it with your life?" I could hear my mother's voice break at that, as well as my own heart turn to ice. Neither of us, nor my father, liked Henry swearing to that. But if he was to be a member of the guard, he would have to give the same oath as everyone else. He smiled at the question, knowing our reactions.
"I do, Your Highness." She smiled in return.
"Very well." Mother placed the tip of the sword on one of Henry's shoulders. "Then I, the Queen of this kingdom, do dub thee, Sir Henry of Misthaven. An honourable member of our guard. Rise, Sir Henry." Henry stood proudly, grinning at us all. I didn't even have a chance to embrace my son. To tell him how immeasurably proud I was of him, before the doors slammed open. Gasps escaped the crowds. The Evil Queen had interrupted the ceremony.
