Prompt: Can we see your take on the Bad Brother AU?
Warnings: Sans being a terrible brother
You're so useless sometimes...
Papyrus heaves, concentrates instead on putting one foot in front of the other. His boots are bright red against the whiteness of the snow beneath them and that too he focusses on, refusing to let his mind wander.
Refusing to think about the sharpness with which those words were spoken.
You always screw things up, don't ya, Pap?
He clenches his fingers at his side, ignoring the way they tremble. His sentry station is only a little while off now and he just has to make it there.
He just has to get there before breaking down completely.
Why won't you just leave me alone for once?!
The sound of something crashing against the floor, a plate shattering into pieces. His knees hit the ground.
Pathetic!
He's shaking, swallowing the sobs threatening to come out and nothing he is telling himself is working.
'Sans was just tired. He's had a long day. He'll apologize in the morning.'
Lies lies lies-
"Hey Pup?"
Papyrus startles, quick to wipe away the tears still threatening to spill from his sockets but it's probably too late. Doggo looks at him carefully, through squinted eyes, and frowns.
"Again?"
Something in his voice makes a chill run down the skeleton's spine and he tries to force an even wider smile, hating the way he probably looks instead.
Like he's on the verge of crying.
"N-No, it's fine! I just, I did something bad."
Papyrus always does bad things. Sans always has to clean up his messes for him.
So annoying...
"Hey!" Doggo barks, taking a step closer and his eyes have a hard time focusing on Papyrus, since he's sitting still and all, but he's trying. "Don't say that."
Papyrus sighs, gets up and starts walking in circles. "I'm sorry."
"He's the one that should be sorry. You know that right?" Doggo mutters, crossing his arms. He looks tired.
Just leave me alone for once, I'm so tired of your-
"Papyrus!"
He stops, feet shuffling idly in the snow.
"You know that, right?" Doggo repeats.
"I know." Papyrus lies. And then, as an afterthought. "Thank you."
It still hurts.
You are a burden
He's shaking, unwillingly but unable to stop and Doggo huffs, something like disappointment on his face. His sharp canines glint as he pulls his lips back in a snarl.
"Come on," he says, quietly. "Let's go home."
Papyrus nods, takes a few steps then sighs. "I Can't-" he mutters awkwardly. His wrist aches still and he holds it gingerly.
Sans didn't mean to, but-
"My home," Doggo clarifies and Papyrus hates the way his shoulders sag in relief, but they do. Like a physical weight fell off his rib cage. He can breathe again.
"Okay then."
They walk back to Snowdin together.
