Kid

snoopykid asked for a oneshot of Snowing talking to Henry about Emma using kid as a term of endearment for him and whether or not he still feels like she is holding him at arms' length on some level.

Snow and Charming had worried about Emma from the moment she was born. Then again from the second they had their memories restored. It was just part of being a parent, worrying. But right now, they seemed to be doing an awful lot of it. Since Henry's memories had been restored and things had been getting back to relatively normal, Snow and Charming both couldn't help but feel that Emma seemed awful distant. Cagey, even. They had both tried to talk to her about it, both separately and together, but she was having none of it. She kept changing the subject or finding an excuse to leave. They were both at their wit's end with the worry. They decided there was only one more person they could ask who might be able to give them a better idea of what was going on: Henry. The boy seemed to have a knack for getting his mother to open up about things she would never dream of talking to anyone else about. Yes, if anybody had even the faintest notion of what seemed to be bothering Emma, it would be her son.

So Snow and Charming got Henry round to theirs during a Saturday afternoon and asked him if he had noticed anything off about his mom. Henry thought about it for a few minutes. Now that it was brought to his attention, he realised his grandparents were probably right.

"Now that you mention it, she has been calling me kid a lot." He told them. This confused Snow and Charming. What did that have to do with it? Henry was surprised they didn't know. "She calls me kid when she's hiding something from me, or trying to cushion a blow." He explained. Snow and Charming could have kicked themselves for not picking up on that. Henry felt like he'd just been punched in the gut. Charming moved over and pulled Henry into a side hug.

"It'll be ok, buddy." Charming promised him. "You know what your mom's like. She's not always very good at opening up, to any of us. She'll tell us in the end." Henry nodded glumly. He didn't like it when his mom was keeping something from him.
