BIO
King William MacFrights is – or was – a powerful king in charge of a beautiful kingdom in Medieval times. He ruled with a gentle fist, beloved by all his subjects, yet was also a fantastic warrior who lost his life in an epic fight that his side just barely won. Except… he wasn't. He didn't. Everything I just said was a lie, but not one I just made up. William MacFrights truly believes this to be true, no matter how much he's told otherwise.
In reality, he was merely an actor. Granted, a very popular and talented one, but an actor nonetheless. He loved the theatrical arts and wanted to be a part of that. So, he climbed his way up into being a legitimate actor who performed in some of the most well-known plays that you've surely heard of. His typical roles were that of rulers or warriors, but he could run the full gamut from comedic sweethearts to emotional criminals. In fact, he even played a woman once or twice.
His most famous role was also his last. He was playing a king of a powerful nation, who was to be assassinated by his brother. The audience applauded him at first when his death was very convincing, only for it to turn to horrified screaming as they all realised that he had just died in front of them all for real. Everyone on stage disobeyed the 'show must go on' rule, and stopped everything.
The reason for his death is still not definitively known, but there is one strong theory. In the play, the king character is to be assassinated via poison. Most believe that an envious actor swapped out the harmless water prop with actual poison, and when William drank it, he died within seconds. This is hard to prove, since the water was never checked, but it is the theory considered the most likely.
Like many ghosts of actors, William passed on believing that his final role wasn't something fake but indeed his real past life. He constantly brags to everyone about his kingship and his epic past of defending his kingdom through bloody wars. Not a single ghost in the hotel believes him, and rightfully so. In fact, many have tried to convince him of the truth. He merely orders them to be beheaded for 'thy insolence'. Some believe it may actually be denial, but no one really knows.
He has a gigantic ego, obvious by the thousands of banners and statues he has of himself. He loves beating opponents in a jousting match, but surprisingly he also loves losing. After all, if he lost that means he had a challenge for once.
EXTRA NOTES
-To be honest, we're not entirely sure if 'William MacFrights' is even his real name, or just what he thinks it is.
-His win-to-lose rate is about 300-1.
-Once you get past his delusions, he's actually a really nice if egotistical guy. How else do you think he's the only ghost - other than his wife, obviously - in the hotel who's married? Serpci may be too nervous to have kids just yet, but MacFrights certainly wants some once she's ready. He already has names picked out - Arthur and Cobra for boys, and Juliet and Anaconda for girls.
-He speaks with a heavy Scottish accent, but the way he speaks olden English is not even remotely genuine. Many experts on olden English cringe upon hearing him say anything.
BEHIND THE SCENES
King MacFrights is probably one of the headcanons I'm the most proud of (did I mention how humble I am?). The idea came to me when TV Tropes - of all things, I know - pointed out that considering that his crowds are made of cardboard and his 'castle' is a floor in a hotel, he probably doesn't have much authority. The 'actor' part comes from how due to being a Scottish king named 'MacFrights', he may be a subtle reference to MacBeth. All I had to do was combine the two, and we got a delusional actor who thinks that he is (or at least was) a king of a powerful nation.
His marriage to Serpci is based on how they are both rulers (as far as he's aware, at least). Originally they were just boyfriend/girlfriend, before I was like 'sure, why not?' and made them straight-up married.
The first name 'William' further derives from the MacBeth reference, being named after William Shakespeare.
