BIO
Dr Ramos Potter LOVES plants. Absolutely adores them. Perhaps too much. WAY too much. This goes back as far as his youth, when his child-self preferred hanging out with flora instead of any kind of fauna, and certainly not the 'sapient' kind of fauna. He often spoke to plants and gave them their own cutesy names, but he never thought they were fully alive. He simply liked plants. Many kids on the playground bullied him for it, but they soon found out that you shouldn't bully someone who is friends with Piranha Plants.
With his passion for green, it's not surprising at all that he decided to study botany when he got older. He was many steps above his colleagues, impressing them with his knowledge of all things flora. He even made 'friends' with another blooming botanist, Dr Ronald Weedly. They were 'friends' by the loosest definition, as Ronald noticed that Ramos seemed to care far more for the plants they were studying than anyone else. Everything reached its tipping point when the plants had to be killed to be experimented on. He flew into a rage and left.
That was the last time most people ever saw him. He stayed in his home for many, many years, where he lived alone surrounded by nothing but plants. It wasn't so bad at first, until he remained there for a decade or two. You could identify his house as the one with all the plants growing out of it, like it was turning into its own jungle. After many years, Ronald finally decided to check up on him, only to be completely unable to find him in the green mess. Everyone wrote him off as dead.
But he wasn't dead. Not quite yet. He lived in those plants for decades, never setting foot outside and surviving off the fruits that his 'friends' bared for him. He believed that these plants were on the same level as real people and treated them as such. Unfortunately, he didn't realise that they failed to fill in his social gap, and he slowly went insane. By the time he was fifty, he truly believed that his plants were fully alive and sapient. Had anyone managed to find him, he would be too far gone.
He managed to live a long life, thanks to his reclusive lifestyle keeping diseases away, but it certainly was not a full one. When his heart finally gave out, there was little of his sanity left. Despite his insanity, he still had talent in the green arts. Hence why he was hired by the Last Resort to begin with. His belief that his plants are his real family is why he gets so mad when someone hurts them - he sees it as the murder of a family member. At least his best friend Audrey - a very rare breed of Piranha Plant - is truly alive.
EXTRA NOTES
-He's infused some of his 'ghost magic' into his watering can, giving the water within it special plant-growing properties. This is how he can grow plants without any sunlight, including very fussy plants such as the Ghost Flower.
-He only met Audrey after going to work for the Last Resort. She was an already-grown plant, one that Hellen often fed mortals to. Her favourite meals include Bubblainians, Toads, and Goombas.
-Out of all the ghosts in the hotel, he is the most reclusive. He hates it when his domain is intruded upon, and though he makes exceptions for the other older workers at the hotel he keeps their visits limited. In addition, the triplets are not allowed at all, while Gloria and Johnny have to be accompanied by Amadeus.
BEHIND THE SCENES
Original Title - The Old-Fashioned Botanist
Entirely the result of me going 'more crazy, more crazy, MORE CRAZY!' over and over, until he became actually insane. I like going as far as I possibly can. His first name and way of speaking are derived from Ramos, the Grass-type gym from Pokémon X and Y. The whole 'survived in isolation due to never catching any illnesses but went insane' was not intended to be so topical. It was just something I pieced together prior to this whole situation. You certainly CAN read deep into it, if you desire. But try not to.
In essence, I wanted to play around with the grumpy 'get offa my lawn' old man stereotype. Yes, he hates it when whippersnappers intrude on his garden, but that's only because he sees it as trampling on his actual brothers and sisters.
The plant's name being Audrey is indeed a Little Shop of Horrors reference.
