BIO

Johnny Deepend may come across as full-of-himself and vain, but he is actually a very nice guy who loves to save lives. This drive to help people was inspired by Officer Paul Kruller of the Rambi Mall, whose acts of heroism were amazing to the child Johnny. He wanted to be just like Kruller when he grew up – a brave hero. When he witnessed Kruller take a bullet for him, sacrificing himself to do so, it only fuelled this fire.

Since he loved water, he decided to become a lifeguard. Once he was old enough, he moved from the Metro Kingdom all the way to the Seaside Kingdom, training himself in the carbonated waters all day and all night. He put himself through intense training, far more intense than most lifeguards would have to go through, just so he could make sure that he could save people when he had to. This is why he is so dang muscular.

He was hired by the Bubblaine Resort and made friends with the other (all-male) lifeguards who worked there. Every day, he would keep watch for any sort of trouble. Though waiting in-between jobs could be boring for him and the boys, they all much preferred that to having to swim out and witness someone drowning. For the most part, it was a fantastic experience for all of them.

As much as he adored this job, Johnny always felt… wrong. Women that the boys playfully referred to as 'smoking hot babes' (to themselves, mind you) fawned all over them, but while the other lifeguards soaked it all up Johnny felt practically nothing. He didn't understand why his friends enjoyed it so much when he got nothing out of it. When he became smitten with a male worker in the hotel, one with spindly little noodle arms, he believed there was something horribly wrong with him.

Unfortunately, this secret got out when the hotel owner caught him flirting (innocently I might add) with the male worker. Next thing Johnny knew, seemingly everyone in the Seaside Kingdom knew about it. When people weren't shouting blatantly homophobic insults at him, they were banning him from their businesses and keeping their sons far away from him. Suddenly, it 'all made sense' why he become a lifeguard in the first place. In fact, he even witnessed teachers using him as an example to steer kids away from homosexuality. In addition to seeing an awful 'Boys Beware' PSA, he was thoroughly convinced there was something indeed horribly wrong and broken with him.

Even though he got fired from his lifeguard job, he still did his duty. If only people didn't assume he was saving those young boys for any... nefarious reasons. During a storm he went out by himself to save a drowning family. He lost his life in the rough waters to ensure that the children made it out alive. In case you are worried, don't be. He witnessed himself that they made it, and they are in fact still alive today. Though his lifeguard buddies were saddened by the loss, they couldn't imagine him going out in any other way.

Out of all the ghosts in the hotel, he's probably the most at peace with his death. No trauma or sadness. If anything, he is happy he saved as many lives as he did. Now that he works in a hotel populated by the undead, he can now relax in the swimming pool all day. Better yet, now he knows that there was never anything horribly wrong with him. In fact, he hopes to propose to Steward one day.

EXTRA NOTES

-He, for the most part, believes that all bodies are beautiful, but also believes that people should try their hardest to make their bodies the best they can be.

-He doesn't flex his muscles to show off that often. It's usually just because he enjoys it, or to please Steward.

-Thanks to his horrible past, he is very hesitant to admit that he's gay to strangers, only doing so if a woman is flirting with him. Fortunately, though there are still bigots in the world, most people and ghosts are very accepting. At worst, many don't care.

BEHIND THE SCENES

Obligatory 'surfer-dude-Gaston' personality.

I have already stated that I wanted a gay couple in my story because why not, and I chose Steward and Johnny for the 'opposites attract' thing going on. Considering that Johnny's connection to Kruller required him to die in the 60's, I decided to roll with it. If you've seen the 'Boys Beware' PSA - and if you haven't and like laughing at hilariously outdated things, you should - then you know how gay people were seen back then. After all, if a gay ghost is from several decades ago it's safe to say he went through some crap when he was still alive, which is something a lot of people seem to ignore when making some of the Last Resort staff members gay. So, unlike his boyfriend Steward, it's a fairly major part of Johnny's story.
