BIO
Polterkitty is the loyal pet of Hellen Gravely, being to her what Polterpup is to Luigi. Though she dislikes what her owner does, Polterkitty will obey her every command to the letter no matter what. This is because Hellen is – or at least was – the only people who ever truly cared about her.
Polterkitty was born an unknown but stupidly long time ago, potentially as one of the first domestic cats ever born. Unlike her brothers and sisters, she was born with two tails instead of one. While this defect would be honoured and studied (and possibly turned into an internet sensation) today, her breeders were horrified by such a mutation. Though Polterkitty acted like any old kitty, many assumed that she was possessed or satanic or some such silly thing.
Horrified as to what this second tail could mean, her breeders tried their damnedest to pawn her off to whoever they could. Even after all of her siblings got adopted, no one would dare take the 'freak-of-nature' cat off their hands, no matter how affectionate towards potential owners she was. Though she was just a kitty, she knew that no one wanted her. It crushed her more and more each day.
Eventually, her breeders gave up on her completely. Fearing for their lives if they didn't get rid of her, they took her with them on a trip under the guise of taking her out for a nice walk. When Polterkitty was finally relaxed and content, they stuffed her into a sack and threw her down a raging river. No matter how much she tried, she succumbed to the waters and drowned.
She wandered the planet looking for a home, but no one wanted to take in a two-tailed ghost cat. When she noticed a third tail in the middle beginning to grow, she gave up on anyone ever loving her. One rainy day, she was found by a child Hellen Gravely, who took her in on the spot. Unlike everything else, Hellen absolutely pampered her, and treated her like a little princess. It didn't matter how harsh Ms Gravely was to her workers – the kitty was special.
Emphasis on 'was'. Once Hellen found out about King Boo, everything changed. Polterkitty was dropped like a piece of hot metal. Suddenly, everything became about King Boo, leaving the poor kitty all but abandoned. Hellen only paid her any attention when she wanted something, and often berated her for failure. Still, Polterkitty stays with her as she has no one else to go to. The necklace she wears is actually a pendant infused with power that prevents her from floating or easily phasing through the walls, giving her similar properties to a regular house cat, as well as to dish out any sort of punishment Hellen sees as necessary. This makes it near impossible for her to flee the Last Resort.
She is a very rare breed of ghost, known as a Pathergeist. Panthergeists are usually in the form of a harmless house cat but will morph into a monstrous panther when scared or angry. Polterkitty loves this form, but Hellen does not. The woman forces her special Gheistpaint make-up onto her, which not only represses that form but gives her a horrible sneezing fit each time.
She wants to leave but doesn't know anyone else who will accept her.
EXTRA NOTES
-The staff ghosts aren't allowed to come into contact with her, but do so anyway when Hellen is distracted by King Boo. Said staff is far nicer to her.
-Each of the staff members have their own little nickname for her. They include: Belle (Steward), Dusty (Chambrea), Donut (Kruller), Rosemary (Chef Soufflé), Adagia (Amadeus, pronounced Ah-dah-gee-ah), Princess (MacFrights), Sprout (Dr Potter), Marie (Morty), Panthera (Ug), Banjo (Clem and Billie), Neferkitty (Serpci), Cat-Dabra (Nikki), Pudding (Lindsey), Cutie (Ginny, but you'll never hear her say it), Barbie (Fishook), Snapper (Johnny), and Cool Cat (Gloria).
-Her allergy to the Gheistpaint is very rare among non-mortals, and quite unfortunate considering that Hellen applies it on her to suppress the panther form all the time.
BEHIND THE SCENES
I like cats. I could leave it at that, but I'm gonna continue. What I was going for with Polterkitty is that she doesn't really want to cause trouble, but only does what she does because she is loyal to her Master. Considering that Hellen uses her make-up to suppress her ugly form, I figured she'd do the same for her cat's panther form. When she morphs into her monstrous form, she's only doing it because Luigi and his Poltergust scare her.
This comes from the fact that when I first saw her in the game, I figured they'd do a Polterpup again and have Luigi adopt her at the end. I was disappointed to see that was not the case. And, when one is disappointed with canon, you fix it in fanon. Her fear of water began as just your typical 'cats hate water' trope, until I decided to play it for drama.
She's a 'Panthergeist' partially because that's a much better pun than 'Polterkitty' but also to explain how on Earth she can do that morphing thing to begin with. As for the restrictive pendant, I noticed that whenever she goes through walls she struggles way more than the other ghosts do. The others slip right on through while Polterkitty gets stuck for a couple seconds. While this is most likely just so the player is sure to notice her escaping, it seemed sus to me so I expanded on it.
