QUOTES (EXCLUDING THE ONES STRAIGHT FROM THE GAME)

'My plan seemed to have a... slight error. I intended for Luigi to be your own little personal victory. I expected him to charge right in and fight, like the flowery princess did. I didn't account for him running away, like the dirty coward that he is!'

'How do you work for me for this long and still remain as INCOMPETENT AS HELL?!'

'Assuming [Amadeus] decides to actually help me out this time. I hope my servants do a good enough job convincing him. And if they don't, I know exactly how to push his buttons.'

'Come here, darling. We cannot have you looking like a horrid beast!'

'There's no way Luigi could've gotten this far! Even Amadeus... that pathetic coward just surrendered to him! They all just surrendered. Every single one of them. USELESS COWARDS, THE LOT OF THEM!'

'I cannot fail you now! I WILL WIN YOUR AFFECTIONS! I don't care what I have to do...'

BIO

The vain and controlling Hellen Gravely is different from her workers, or any other ghost in the hotel for that matter. Unlike everyone else, she was born a ghost. Not once did she experience a passing, because she was never truly 'alive' to begin with. While this makes her a completely different kind of being to regular ghosts, and in fact not even a ghost at all, her kind is ghost-like enough to be referred to as such for simplicity's sake.

Hellen belongs to a rare species of all-female ghosts known as 'Sirens', so-called for their similarities to the mythical creatures of the same name. Siren ghosts put up a beautiful façade to lure in any man or woman attracted to them into their clutches. Once the victim is properly entranced and in no position to flee or fight back, the Siren reveals her true appearance of a monstrous hag and consumes their body, leaving the soul to wander the world if they are not eaten afterwards. In rare instances, they may choose to, um, reproduce with any man under their control before killing him to keep their population going.

Most Sirens do not 'evolve' past the point of being sapient murdering machines who take glee in their work, but some do decide to become more. Hellen is one such example, abandoning the usual brutality and mess of her species and going with a more 'civilised' approach. Hence the hotel. That's not to say she's much better than other Sirens; she just does her luring-and-eating in a more round-about way. The resulting ghosts, whose bodies are never around long enough for their spirits to properly form, turn into the generic ghosts seen throughout the hotel.

Things really went off the rails when she found out about the horrifying majesty of King Boo. She immediately lusted after him, and wanted to do whatever she could to get with him. Everything in her penthouse suite is plastered with his face, and she can often be found cuddling and fondling the statues on a daily basis. She even washes her feather boa with a special detergent that makes it smell exactly like King Boo. The more... disturbing paintings can be found in her library, where she makes it very clear that she wants to do, um, things with him.

Aside from her obsession and preferring to do her hunts with her hotel trap, Hellen differs from the other Sirens in another aspect. Most Sirens adore their horrific real form, but Hellen utterly despises hers. Unfortunately, it has a habit of emerging whenever she gets truly angry. In order to repress this awful appearance, she covers her face with special Gheistpaint makeup. The magic infused in the powder keeps her looking pretty.

Her preferred method of dealing with mortals now is to keep herself out of trouble, and instead use her workers. She is a master at mind manipulation, going beyond mind control to implant thoughts in the minds of her staff. Examples include telling Kruller that he would be a hero if he obeyed her orders, and claiming that someone hurt Gloria to keep Amadeus in line.

She has an... interesting relationship with her pet. After adopting her when she was a child, she treated Polterkitty like a queen. That was until King Boo entered the picture. Now, she acts like her pet barely exists, until she needs her to get a job done. Her workers in the hotel are treated just as poorly, and forced to do her dirty work for her. After all, a Siren's appetite is never satisfied.

EXTRA NOTES

-While she does want to do 'things' with King Boo, she certainly doesn't want to do them without his permission. She has some standards, okay? A large part of her scheme is to get him to like her, after all.

-Her preferred method of punishment for any worker who disobeys her or fails a plan is electrocution. Sometimes, she electrocutes the other ghosts intensely enough for them to dissipate completely and permanently.

-Despite what she wants you to think, she is not the most powerful ghost in the hotel. That honour goes to Amadeus, with Serpci making a close second. She may not fear Serpci due to her timid nature, but she fears Amadeus's power. Luckily for her, he rarely uses his power for anything but piano-playing and he is fairly easy to manipulate.

BEHIND THE SCENES

'Hey me, you know how Hellen Gravely is obsessed with King Boo?' 'Yes me, I do know that. Point being?' 'What if I turned her creep levels up to Frollo levels?' 'Ooh, good idea me!' - My thought process. Actually, that would imply I think about these things to that level. It was more like 'I wanna make her like Frollo'.

The Siren thing was to provide an explanation for her true appearance, as well as give her greater connection to her pet. This is because that, while I think the twist is pretty neat, it does end up carrying that 'beauty equals goodness' trope. So screw it, let's make it a biological thing and so that she was never a mortal in the process! Which, as you can tell, made writing her backstory a little more difficult than the others. (Also the 'Beauty Equals Goodness' thing is subverted by Polterkitty, who's actually in her scary panther form in most of her good moments).

Author Notes - What's that? You really think this is it? We still have one more bio that I'm gonna give y'all as a little bonus. But spoilers, it won't be on King Boo.
