Teenaged tantrum
A guest asked for a oneshot of Snowing trying to tell Henry what to do and he tells them they can't, since they're not his parents. Emma corrects him and says when she's not around, they most certainly can. Set as if they still live together.
"You're not my parents! Just because we live in the same house doesn't mean you get to tell me what to do!" Emma winced. She had literally just stepped foot inside the house as she heard Henry have his little outburst before slamming his bedroom door shut. She almost wanted to just turn around and go right back out again, seeing as nobody had seen her, but that wouldn't be fair on her parents. Henry was becoming a very stroppy teenager, and appeared to be taking his anger out on everyone and anyone.
"Well you can just stay in that bedroom until your mother gets home from work and she can discuss the matter with you!" Snow said, clearly annoyed before she and Charming stomped down the stairs to find Emma standing at the door.
"What exactly is going on?" She asked them.
"Henry had been incredibly rude today." Charming answered her. "Eventually, we had enough and told him that, since his behaviour had been so poor, I wouldn't be taking him to his band practice tonight. Which, since it's all the way across town and it's pouring of rain, means he can't go." Emma nodded. This was going to be a fun conversation.
"Ok, I'm sorry he's been so rude. I'll sort this." She promised them. She then went up and knocked on Henry's door.
"Go away!" He shouted. "I don't want to talk to either of you!" Emma opened the door.
"Well, just as well I'm not 'either of them' then." She commented. She came and sat on the end of Henry's bed. "Want to tell me where this is all coming from?"
"They're both being jerks." Henry spat. "Just because I don't want to spend every waking minute with them and Neal doesn't mean I'm being rude. Now grandpa says he's not taking me to band practice and you're working tonight again so I can't go. This sucks!" Henry took a pillow and flung it at the opposite wall. Emma was just grateful it wasn't something that could have been more easily damaged. She knew Henry was likely to be exaggerating his innocence slightly. He had been staying up in his room for long stretches of the day recently. Perhaps her parents shouldn't have pushed him so much, but that didn't excuse him being rude enough for them to have to take away a privilege. Emma couldn't undermine her parents on this one.
"Listen kid…I'm sure you didn't mean it, but I think you probably have been quite standoffish to them today." Emma said. "I heard the last thing you said to them there. Henry, they're your grandparents, this is their house. If I'm not here, then they're in charge. You know that. When they're in charge, their rules go. So I'm afraid they can tell you what to do, kid. In this case, that means spending some time with them."
"I can't believe you!" Henry yelled. "You always side with them!" Emma decided now wasn't the best time to fight her corner. She got up.
"That's not true, but I'm not having this conversation with you when you're so mad. I'll be downstairs for a few hours if you calm down enough to talk about today with all of us. Starting with an apology." Emma told him before leaving him to sulk. Being a proper parent to Henry was very difficult, especially when he was going through so much teenaged angst. But she would push through it, because she knew it wouldn't last forever. Someday, her happy boy would be back. Only then, he would be a happy man.
