When Megan regained consciousness and finally opened her eyes, the area she was in was so dark, that she couldn't tell whether her eyes were open or closed. She then realized that her body was draped over the back of another dog. She began to whimper, as the memory of what happened to her suddenly came back to her. She was then hushed by the dog that she was receiving a free ride from. "Hush...there's coyotes out here, I don't want you to see that much blood tonight unless absolutely necessary." The voice said. After thinking for a moment, she realized who was carrying her. "Wait...Shadow?" Megan asked, her voice weak without use in the last little bit. "Who'd you think it was?" He asked back sarcastically. "How'd you know I was here?" Megan asked, stunned that someone actually heard her. "I heard you close the trunk around 11. I never fully sleep, that's one thing you should probably know about me, if I sleep, that's when the night terrors happen." After this brief moment of weakness, he stopped walking. Megan, confused, asked, "What's wro-" Shadow cut her off, "Shhh...coyotes. Get off and go hide, unless you wanna see some serious shit." "O...Ok" she said getting off and sneaking into a bush nearby. Shadow walked into the small clearing where the pack of coyotes where eating. In the middle of the pack, the carcasses of three deer lay, mostly eaten. Shadow then said, in a calm voice, "Guys...guys...did you not hear about what happened to the last few that came out to these parts?" "Nope" One of the coyotes said, getting up and growling at Shadow. "Well, it appears as if your about to..." As he said this, The first coyote lunged at Shadow. "Now what the hell are you doing..." He said as he grabbed the coyote and pinned him to the ground. He then dug his claws into the coyote's neck and ripped through its skin, killing it in mere moments. The next three quickly rose up and began to stare Shadow down. "You guys just don't learn..." Shadow said as he grabbed three throwing knives from his pockets. He then sidearmed the three knives, forcing them into a spinning motion. The strength that he threw the knives with caused them to whistle as they ripped through the cool air. Each of the knives hit their mark, piercing through each of the victims' neck. The last coyote hopped to its feet as Shadow raced toward it. However, as he lunged at him, he realized that the coyote had a short shank in his right paw. "Oh fu-" was the only words that could escape Shadow's mouth before the shank plunged into his left shoulder. Shadow nearly passed out as he felt the shank hit his bone. Luckily for him, the shank did not pierce his bone. He rolled to a stop past the coyote and the coyote, seeing his moment to strike, leapt at Shadow. Despite the immense pain, Shadow came to his senses quickly, and he grabbed the shank, pulling it out of his shoulder. The maneuver was quick enough to where the coyote did not complete the kill, but instead had a knife tear through its torso and lead to its demise. The corpse of the final coyote landed on Shadow, who was lying with his back on the ground. He threw the body off of him and grimaced in pain as he tried to stop the bleeding from the wound in his shoulder. Shadow continued to lay in the opening for a few minutes, the pain in his shoulder too much for even him to bear. Blood stained the ground all around him, and most of his fur as well. Megan finally came out to him, while doing her best to avoid the pools of blood that were seeping into the ground. "Are you okay?!" she asked in a terrified voice. "Yeah, I'll be fine" Shadow replied, trying to stand. "Here, I'll help you" Megan said, getting into a position to act as a crutch for his limp front leg. "You sure, you'll get blood all over you." Shadow replied. "Yeah, its not a problem." She said. Shadow draped his left leg over her back and the two began to walk back to the house. They walked in silence for most of the way, until Shadow said, "Bet tonight didn't go as you planned." Megan laughed, "Definitely not, but I'm not gonna lie, seeing you do that was pretty cool." "I'm flattered" Shadow sarcastically replied. The sun began to rise and light up the woods as the two came into eyeshot of the house. They both continued to move slowly through the early morning sun, their minds racing through the events that had occurred through the prior night.
