Knowing she's loved
Kitkat asked for a oneshot of Emma being unbelievably jealous of little Neal and starts calling her parents by their first names again.
This will be the last chapter I write with Emma reverting back to calling her parents by their first names. I think I've now covered it from every angle possible lol.
"Well…good night Emma. Sleep well." Snow said. She waited, hoping Emma might come over and give her a hug. That she might be completely overreacting and making all this up from being overtired. But she wasn't. Emma gave no bedtime hug.
"Good night, Mary Margaret. See you in the morning." There was an awkward silence between the two. Emma knew that her mom was expecting more, expecting a hug, but she just couldn't give one. Not right now. "Good night, David."
"Night Em." Charming said, just as sadly as Snow. They watched Emma go up to her bedroom before both sighing, equally as sadly.
"No, you're definitely not making it up." Charming assured Snow, rubbing her back. "She's gone backwards.
"I thought she had." Snow mumbled. She looked over to their bedroom, where Neal was already asleep in his bassinette. "Clearly a bigger age gap does not help sibling jealousy." Snow pointed out.
"Do you think that's what this is?" Charming asked her. Snow nodded.
"I'm positive that's what this is." She responded quietly, not wanting either Emma to overhear them or to wake up Neal. Snow leaned her head against Charming's chest, at a loss for what to do to fix this. "I know she's happy for us that we get another chance, and I know she loves her brother, as well as us, but she's struggling, Charming. She's distancing herself from us because this isn't the first time she's been in the house with a new baby. She's worried we're going to ask her to leave." Snow had known that for a couple of days, but she'd been hoping she was wrong and just seeing things that weren't there. As Charming had noticed too, clearly she wasn't. Now they had to act before it was too late.
"So what do you think we should do?" Charming asked her. Snow pulled back from his comforting embrace.
"We love her." She answered simply. "Like we have been doing, we just keep loving her. We keep showing our baby girl that just because she has a little brother doesn't mean we love her any less. She doesn't need told that, she needs shown it. So that is what we do, Charming." Snow answered confidently. Charming smiled, pressing his lips against hers.
"You're brilliant, you know that?" He asked her. Snow smiled, shrugging her shoulders.
"Only because I have a brilliant husband." She answered, taking his hand. "Come on, we need to go to bed as well. It'll only be a couple of hours before his majesty wakes up. We're going to need all our energy tomorrow to begin reminding Emma we truly love her." Charming nodded in agreement, following Snow through to their bedroom. Emma would know they loved them, even if he had to go all Love Actually on her.
