Not a proper girl

Marina Ka-Fai asked for a oneshot of Rosie being pissed because some nasty girls at school told her that she's not a real girl because she's not into makeup and loves video games.

Well, Christmas Eve is fast drawing to a close here (T minus 53 minutes as I write this). I hope you and all your loved ones have a wonderful Christmas, JMAMK 3.

Snow was surprised as she passed by Rosie's bedroom and heard someone grumbling, clearly irritated. As Charming came down the hallway, she put her arm back to stop him. Charming came and listened at the door as well and was equally as surprised. Rosie was never irritated. She was a happy, smiley girl. Even as a baby she hardly cried. Snow knocked on the door.

"Honey, it's us. Can we come in?"

"Yeah." Rosie sighed. Snow and Charming gave each other concerned looks. What could be bothering her?

As they went into the room, they found Rosie sitting with the little mirror that normally belonged in the bathroom. She had a pile of Snow's makeup surrounding her and was making a right mess of her desk. This baffled both of her parents. Rosie hated makeup. She'd never shown any interest in it and was much happier playing with Neal on his PlayStation.

"Uh, sweetheart, what are you doing?" Charming asked her.

"Trying to put on mascara but this thing is so stupid!" Rosie shouted, slamming the mascara down in front of her. Snow and Charming came over to her. This wasn't like her at all.

"Rosie, if you really want to put some on I'll show you how to do it, but I don't understand why. You've never liked makeup." Rosie didn't respond to her mother.

"Rosie," Charming prompted her "why do you want to put this on?" Rosie looked down, twiddling with the bobble on her wrist.

"The other girls at school said I'm not a proper girl." Rosie muttered. "Because I don't do makeup and I play video games with Neal." Snow and Charming were deeply concerned with this. Rosie had never mentioned anything that would lead either of them to believe she was being bullied or tormented at school. Charming bent down so that he was eye level with his youngest.

"Rosie Eva, don't you listen to those silly little girls." He told her seriously. He picked up the mascara. "This doesn't make you a girl. The fact that you like video games like your big brother doesn't make you any less of a girl than any of them. Look at your big sister. She loves video games. She goes about wearing leather and shooting guns for a living and she's one of the best women I know. Takes after another one of my favourites who's more at home with a bow and arrow than eye shadow." Charming said, kissing Snow's hand. Snow smiled before she too bent down beside their daughter.

"Your dad's right honey. Being a girl isn't about makeup. It isn't even about the biological side either. It's about how you feel inside. Do you think you're a boy?" Rosie scrunched up her face and shook her head. "Do you feel like a girl?" Rosie nodded more tentatively. "Well there we are then. You're a girl, Rosie. Don't listen to those little brats. Do you want me to show you how to use this?" Rosie looked at the mascara for a moment before shaking her head.

"No thanks mom. Can I go play Overwatch with Neal?"

"Sure sweetie, on you go." Rosie smiled, going off to play with her brother. Neither Snow or Charming were exactly sure what Overwatch was, but it definitely sounded more like Rosie's type of thing than mascara.
