Which door?

Percy Pig (awesome sweets) asked for a oneshot of Emma being in a car crash with Killian. He dies and she's left in a coma. Her relatives are surrounding her in the hospital, and Emma has to decide whether to move on or not. I haven't seen the movie you're referring to, but I thought I could give this a shot :). Sorry, I didn't have the heart to bump off Henry!

Marley: Sorry, but I've already written Snowing being mad because they missed Emma's wedding.

The skin under Snow's eyes was red raw from all the tears she had shed. She gently ran her fingers through Emma's hair, her other hand tightly clutching Emma's. She didn't take her eyes off her daughter when she heard the door to her private cubicle being pushed open. She knew it was Charming coming in.

"How's Henry?" She croaked.

"He's…" Charming trailed off, not sure how to answer that. "He's hanging in there, Snow." He said. It was the kindest, most honest answer he could give. Emma, Henry and Killian had all been involved in a car crash. Killian had died at the scene, with Emma and Henry being severely injured. It was still touch and go for both their daughter and grandson. They were doing their best to be with both of them, but it was just so difficult. Once they got settled with one so they weren't alone, it was hard to pull themselves away to see the other. How they were going to deal with telling them both Killian was dead they didn't know…that was a problem that could wait until they were awake…if they did wake up.

Charming could see Snow's bottom lip quivering. He quickly pulled up a chair beside her, wrapping his arms around her. He didn't say a single word, for not a single word would have been helpful. Nothing could take this pain away from either of them.

"You hear that, Em? He's hanging in there. I need you to do the same for me too…"

Emma heard her mother's words echo from the small room she was trapped in. She had given up trying to open either of the doors. Neither would budge. She just wanted to get back to her family. Clearly, Henry needed her.

"Hello, Emma." Emma jumped at the strange voice. She turned and saw a man dressed in a simple white shirt and a pair of white slacks. He didn't seem phased by how startled she was. "Sorry we've kept you waiting."

"Where am I?" Emma demanded. "That doesn't really matter. My really question is, how do I get back to where I was?" The man smiled at her in a way one might smile at a child who had asked why clouds didn't fall down.

"Well, Emma, that's why I'm here. You have a choice to make. I can open the door that will take you back to the land of the living. Or, I can open the door that will take you on. That will take you to be with Killian." Emma felt all the breath leave her body.

"Killian's gone?" She croaked. The man nodded solemnly.

"Death does not give three chances." He answered her. "This is your second chance, Emma. Just like Killian was once granted. You can go back to be with your parents. Or, you can move on and be with him." Emma felt like she was going to be sick. How was she meant to make such a decision? She knew she couldn't stay stuck in limbo forever, but nor did she want to close the door on anyone she loved for good.

"What about Henry?" She asked. "If I go back, does he live?" The man looked Emma dead in the eye in such a way that Emma knew he would never lie to her.

"Henry has his own journey and choice to make." He told her quietly. "I cannot guarantee what the outcome of that will be (AN: just I know where sequels often come from ;) I won't be writing Henry's version of this, as it would be too similar to Emma's). Emma nodded. She looked between both doors. Her heart was splitting in two, each wanting to go through a different door. In the end, what her decision really boiled down to, was her son.

"Give me a moment." She requested of the man. He nodded, stepping back and giving Emma some privacy. Emma stepped up the door that would take her on to Killian.

"If Henry does choose to move on, I know he'll have you always. I know he'll have his dad to look after him. If I choose to move on and he doesn't, he's lost both of us. I can't take that risk…I love you, and I'm sorry." Emma had tears falling from her eyes so fast that she could hardly see the stranger as she turned to face him. With the sleep of her jacket, she wiped them away as best she could.

"Ok." She said quietly. She gave one last fleeting look towards the door that would take her towards Killian, but Emma knew it was not meant to be. However much she wished she could save him once more. "Take me back." The man nodded, but did not say another word. He simply opened the door that would allow Emma to return to the land of the living. Emma briefly brushed her fingertips against the other door before she shakily walked back towards the living. The door was softly closed behind her, and Emma began to feel her heart beating slowly in her chest.
