New Game - Part IV

I groaned, feeling as if someone had ran me over with a semi and then took me to a shooting range and pinned me to a target. My entire body, from head to toe, was aching. The pulsing pain made it difficult to concentrate on anything else.

When I tried to move my hands, I couldn't help letting out a groan of pain when the muscles caused pain to shoot up my chest where I vaguely remember being shot at.

"She's waking up. Get the boss!" I heard someone hiss. There were a flurry of footsteps fading away before a second pair approached me. I waited until he was close enough before swinging my leg out. The force caused him to stumble back with a surprised groan.

I tumbled to my feet, my head spinning and my body screaming, but there was no time to lose. Vision still blurry, I had no choice but to move forward. I crashed into the door and fumbled with the knob. My hands were shaking so much from the adrenaline that it took me several tries before I flung it open, right as a hand reached for me. I slammed the door closed on it, hearing the sickening crunch and a muffled cry of pain.

Get out. Get out! Get out!

After quickly realising that there weren't any windows in the room, I moved my feet as quick as I could down unfamiliar corridors. My shoulder scraped the walls, hoping that it would support me long enough to find an exit.

"Did you find him?"

I stepped back, listening to the men who were just around the corner.

"Fuck, no. Where the Hell did he go?" the other one growled. "He's always disappearing to who knows fuckin' where and we have to pick up his slack!"

"Shut up!" I heard a loud smack. "If he hears you, we're both dead!"

I let out a quiet breath to try to calm my racing heart and backtracked around down another set of halls. It was quiet. I hadn't seen anyone for at least ten minutes and it was making me anxious. There had to be more of them patrolling around. Surely, such an organisation would have better security. Surely…

My exploration was going well until I finally spotted a window and I saw how high up we were. This wasn't a mansion, it was a penthouse. We were at least twenty floors above the ground, but I had to try. Just as I opened the window, one of the numerous doors creaked open and I hid myself in a supply closet.

The shelving pressed painfully against my back, curving it in a way that I knew was reopening my wound, but I had to keep quiet.

I peeked through the closet door.

The man who walked by was dressed similarly to the other two bickering couple - dark suit and dark glasses with a communication line that could be visible behind his ears.

I waited until he was out of sight before slowly opening the door and looking both ways. There was no one in sight. I made my way back to the window. I opened it all the way and climbed out. The wind blew furiously around me and I nearly lost my balance.

With a deep breath, I slowly scooted over step by step. The ledge was extremely narrow. I had to keep all my weight at the heel of my feet. More than once, I nearly slipped off, but managed to cling on long enough to regain my balance. Even though I didn't have a fear of height, this was a little more extreme than I was comfortable with.

Eventually, I spotted what I was looking for through the half-drawn blinds. The elevator was operated with a code, I'd have to get it off someone here, but who would have it? I was positive that the lackeys wouldn't know the number, but I hadn't seen anyone who stood out, yet. I'd have to -

A hand suddenly grabbed me from behind, pulling me through another window. I landed awkwardly back inside. Without looking, I attacked the person, hearing them let out a pained grunt. They fell on the floor beside me and I brought my elbow down on his neck. His body fell limp.

My breath came out in pants as I tried to work through the pain and dragged the unconscious body into an unoccupied room. I searched his body and took the gun he had. There was nothing more on him that I needed, so once I was sure that he was hidden beneath the bed, I made my way back out.

Now armed with a pistol, I was feeling a little more confident. I hobbled back out the window and balanced on the ledge, completely giving up on the elevator. It was a bad idea. The elevator would trap me in a small space where I could easily be gunned down. I hadn't been thinking clearly when my mind narrowed in on it.

On the precarious ledge, I managed to find a pipe that went downward. With a defeated sigh, I made my way over, trying to ignore the tugging pain below my collarbone. As I slowly made my way down, I was really hoping to see him - for him to come save me. My pride would take a hit, but I'd still be alive. I knew if there was anyone who could help me, it'd be him.

I carefully braced myself, gripping the pipe as tightly as I could and slid myself down little by little. I held my breath when the cold metal creaked, wondering if anyone was going to notice me scaling down the building, but I couldn't stop here.

Halfway down, I heard voices coming from the floor below. I held my breath, trying to keep as still as possible, while my feet looked around to find purchase on something.

"She's around here somewhere," I heard. "She couldn't have gotten far."

Their voices passed and I thought I was safe, until shouting could be heard from down below, followed by sounds of gunfire. Purely out of instinct, I kicked my feet through the window and tumbled in.

The men who were patrolling quickly turned around and pointed their guns at me, but I managed to manoeuvre myself away before their bullets could hit. Running past them, I headed straight for the elevator. My heart pounded in my chest as I looked at the card I just just swiped from one of them. If this wasn't it, I was going to die here.

Quickly swiping it down the slot, I was relieved when the small light turned green, but the elevator was slowly coming down from the top floor and I didn't have the time to stand there.

I ducked just as another bullet came my way and rushed behind one of them, disarming him. I pointed the gun at his head, using his as a human shield between his accomplice. The elevator seemed to be moving at snail's pace, stopping at every floor. I knew what they were trying to do, stall time, until everyone was here. There was no doubt in my mind that that elevator was going to be fully occupied when it opened. I just needed to catch them off guard, somehow.

Using the gun, I shot the one across from me in the head before turning towards the metal doors. There wasn't much I could do. The hall was boringly obsolete of decor. My only option was to head back out the window and shuffle along the ledge, but that would defeat the purpose of coming in in the first place. I couldn't linger here any longer.

After a long minute, the elevator finally opened, but only one man stood in its well-lit metal cube.

"You…" I stared at the familiar cloak in disbelief. He lifted his head, revealing the face that had remained elusive since that night of our first encounter. "What kind of sick game is this, Santoro?!"

His lips quirked up. "No game, at all. At least, not with you." His gaze shifted to a point behind my shoulder and I moved myself to the side with the human shield still in front of me. "Agent 47."

I had never been more relieved to see his bald head and permanent glare. "What took you so long?" I hissed.

"I was held up," he simply stated.

AUTHOR'S NOTE

Hello! I can't believe it's been such a long time since I posted on this story. Actually, a part of me is shocked it hasn't been longer.

This chapter was actually written a while ago and I never finished it, but I decided to post this anyway and hopefully, finish the story. My writing style might be a bit different since then. For the longest time, I just lost inspiration for the game, but since I finished Hitman 1 and midway through Hitman 2, I thought I'd try to pick this up again.

I hope I don't disappoint you guys!

Thank you YaoiLovinKitsune, acetwolf94, and guest (Ysmine) for reviewing!

Thank you as well to everyone who has favourite and followed this story.
