Official story disclaimer
The characters of Lieutenant Commander Steven 'Steve' McGarrett, Special Agent Doris McGarrett and Lieutenant Catherine 'Cath' Rollins do not belong to me in any shape or form. I am merely using them for my own entertainment purposes.
The character of Danielle 'Danni / Elle' Williams could probably be considered mine by now. Although the character was originally based on male Danny Williams, I think it's probably safe to say that she has become her own character. She has her own story to tell and her own individual background which differ from that on the show.
This also means that Grace is different than she is in the show as well; not only because she lives full time with her mother but also because Danni and her ex Duncan have a civil relationship with one another. Please note as well that Grace's surname in this universe where she is Danni's daughter is Taylor as Williams is Danni's maiden name while Taylor was her married name.
The character of Emily 'Emmy' McGarrett, Lily Williams and Robert 'Bobby' Williams do belong to me however as does any character who you don't recognise straight away so please don't use them without permission.

Welcome to 'Be careful what you wish for'
I've had a few request from people for a story where Danni and Doris finally come face to face with each other so that is what this is. This taken a while to write and even longer to complete but here we go.
Please note that Danni's parents call her Elle, they are the only ones who do, everyone else refers to her as Danni.
Please enjoy!

Doris McGarrett had a plan and she was determined that her plan would go ahead, even if it meant having to break up her son and his fiancé to do it… after all she was his mother and she knew what was best for Steve. It was just a shame that Steve didn't share her point of view. (Standalone story, McDanni featuring a female Danny)

Chapter One
An unexpected and unwelcomed visit
"I know that you're busy at the moment Elle, what with having Grace and Emmy to look after and that the chances of you and Steve and the girls being able to fly out here to see us for Christmas is pretty non-existent at the moment. I completely understand that and I accept it as well but maybe instead your Dad and I could fly out to see you in Oahu this year? I've managed to convince him to actually take some time off from his job so that we could join you for Christmas, especially since we didn't see you last year for it."
Danni Williams raised her eyebrow at her mother's suggestion as she climbed up the stairs in her fiancé Steve McGarrett's home, her attention fixed on the ongoing conversation.
"You've managed to convince Dad to take some time off at Christmas?" She repeated, making no effort to hide her surprise from her voice. "Are we speaking about the same man who is a known workaholic and nearly comes out of his skin any time that he takes longer than a couple of days off? Are you sure that he'll actually be able to cope if he comes out of here?"
"You underestimate just how much he misses you Elle and he misses the girls as well, it's hard with you being so far away. We've only seen Emmy once since she was born and it's not enough for either of us, hence why we're coming to you this year." Lily Williams responded, no doubt shrugging as she continued. "When I suggested it to him he leapt at the idea."
"If he leapt at the idea then it probably means that he also has a business opportunity out here that he wants to look in to and he's using your suggestion as a chance to kill two birds with one stone." Danni replied, a smile coming to her face, she was well aware of what her father was like.
"You're probably right there." Lily conceded. "But as long as it means that we can come and see you then I don't really mind if he sneaks off to go and look at a building or to have a meeting with someone."
"What about the brothers and Caitlin? They always head over to your place to spend Christmas with you, what are they going to do if you're out here in Oahu with me, Steve and the girls?" She asked, stepping into the main bedroom which she and Steve shared together at the weekends and headed over to the ensuite bathroom.
"I've already told them our plans and it seems like the general idea is that they are going to fly out to Oahu as well so that we can spent Christmas together as a family, I think it's a good idea personally, god knows when the next time we'll be able to do it will be" Lily replied, sounding almost hesitant. Danni froze in her task of turning the shower on, her eyes widening as her mom's words sank in.
"Wait a moment." She said, straightening up. "Are you telling me that the whole family are coming out here to Oahu, to have Christmas at my house? Mom, are you kidding me because that means that there be about twenty people here if not more and I don't know if I can cook for that many people when I'm still breastfeeding Emmy." She remarked, her mind already trying to figure out how she and Steve could manage hosting that many people, especially as Steve's sister was already joining them and they had already been planning on inviting the team around to celebrate with them as well.
"I thought that you might struggle so your Dad and I are flying out earlier so I'll be able to help you with cooking the food. Emmy will be fine with her Dad and I can cover when you need to feed her. Between the two of us and Emma's help when she arrives we can manage." Lily assured her confidently, speaking about Danni's sister in law Emma who was married to her oldest brother.
"I need to speak to Steve first about all of this Mom." Danni warned her. "I can't just drop something like this on him and expect him to be okay with it, especially as his sister is coming to spend Christmas with us as well."
"Yeah of course Elle, speak to Steve about it and let is know what he says about it. If having the whole family there is going to be too much this year with Emmy being so young then I can speak to your brothers and your sister and we'll work something else out. We can always go and see them at New Years and just your father and I come to spend Christmas with you. I'll let you head of now though, I'm off to see Clem and you know what she is like when I'm late to anything which we've arranged." Lily commented on a sigh the sound making Danni smile. Her Auntie Clem was one of the most laid back people who she had come across but she hated anyone being late, something which Danni had inherited as well.
"No problem Mom, I have to start making lunch after having a shower. Have a good time with Auntie Clem and I'll speak to Steve this weekend about your plan and let you know how he takes it. Take care of yourself, I love you." Danni said.
"I love you too Elle, give my love to the girls and to Steve and keep yourself safe. Bye." Lily replied brightly.
Danni smiled as she ended the call on her side, staring down at her cell phone for a moment before she shook her head and stuck her head out of the bathroom and threw it onto the bed. Entering the bathroom again she stripped her clothes off and stepped under the powerful jets with a sigh of relief, thankful that Steve had upgraded the showers when they had become a couple. They had fallen into the habit of living at her place throughout the week since it was closer to her eldest daughter Grace's school and spending the weekends at Steve's place due to the fact the property had its own private beach which they could use as they desired.
She hummed as she lathered herself with her favourite orange scented shower gel, aware of time slipping away from her as she washed it off and focused her attention on washing her long, blonde hair, making sure that she picked up her vanilla scented shampoo and conditioner rather than Steve's shampoo set which smelt of a forest. Danni preferred sweeter scents and she was pretty sure from the way that Steve was always burying his nose into her hair or into the crook of her neck that he preferred them on her as well.
She pushed the thought of her fiancé from her mind and instead ran through a mental checklist in her mind of what she still needed to do that day before Steve and the girls returned from their trip to the local supermarket.
It was a list which left her feeling exhausted but at the same time it was one which left a feeling of happiness settling over her like a warm blanket on a cold night. There was no denying that her day to day life was time consuming and that she regularly struggled on getting the right balance between everything. There was no hiding from the fact that Steve came with his own set of baggage in the form of his family and his PTSD which had only recently been diagnosed but they were coping with it together.
She knew without a shadow of a doubt though that this was the life which she was meant to have. Steve, with all his messed up problems and his one mindfulness over things and his heart which was one of the kindest, biggest hearts which she had come across was her end game. She used to scoff when people would talk about their one or their soulmate but now she understood it. She knew that Steve was her one, the same way that she knew she had to breathe each moment of the day just to survive.
Danni allowed herself one more moment to linger beneath the hot water before she reached out and turned the shower off, climbing out of the bath tub and wrapped herself up on one of the fluffy teal coloured towels, using it to wipe the excess water from her skin. Rubbing at her wet hair, she left the bathroom and moved back into the bedroom, a smile coming to her face when she noticed all the feminine changes she had been making to the distinctive masculine room which Steve had.
The place might have legally belonged to Steve, the same way that her own home might legally belong to her but they had both made each place their own. Anyone who knew her well would take one look at the master bedroom and ensuite bathroom and be able to see her everywhere and it was something which she had to admit she liked.
She pulled on a blue summer dress and quickly blow dried her hair before she secured it back into a high ponytail and made her way out of the bedroom and toward the kitchen, a slight frown on her face as she mentally ran through the list she had given Steve to get before he had left that morning.
"Damn it." She murmured to herself, realising that she had forgotten to add something to it, she grabbed her cell phone and pressed down on the number one button bringing the handset up to her ear, a smile coming to her face when it was picked up after only two rings.
"Hey Ku'u Lei, you missing us already?" Steve said, a loving, teasing tone to his voice, a tone which she was pretty positive most people never got to hear or experience.
"Actually I am." She admitted honestly. "I keep forgetting just how quiet this house could be without the three of you here making noise. I've got Roxie here but she was asleep the last time I checked." She said, speaking of their French Bulldog who Danni had owned for the past eighteen months.
"We'll be back soon." He promised her.
"Does that mean that you're still at the supermarket?" She asked as she headed into the kitchen and over to the kettle, picking it up and heading over to the sink to fill it with water, her eyes flickering over to see that Roxie was indeed still asleep on her cushion, the sight causing Danni to smile.
"Yeah we're nearly done though so I think maybe we'll be here for another fifteen minutes and then we'll be heading back to the house." He told her before there was a muffled sound as though Steve had suddenly covered the mouth piece with his hand. She listened as he spoke "Gracie, put the chocolate bars back on the shelf, you know that we have plenty back at home and besides, your Mamma doesn't like you eating too many of them." He stated firmly. Danni could almost picture the mutinous expression which would have come to Grace's face at his order but pushed the image away when Steve spoke again. "Do you need me to get you something Danno or was this just a social call to check in on us?" He asked her.
"I need you to get me some onions for the roast dinner which I'm making for us today Sweetheart, I forgot to put them on the list earlier." She told him. "And while I think of it, we're out of red wine as well here so I need you to get me a bottle please."
"We are? I thought we had a bottle left at mine?" Steve asked, sounding confused for a moment.
"We did but Amelia and Amy drank it at the last Barbeque we had and I think a glass later on would be kind of nice. I'm just going to start prepping the lamb, it's just us today right? You haven't invited anyone else around have you? I just want to know so I can make sure that I make enough for everyone." She remarked as she placed the kettle down and hit the power button.
"I haven't mentioned it to anyone so it should be just the four of us, I'll make sure I get the onions and some red wine for us, don't worry Ku'u Lei, I've got us covered." He stated in a confident tone which she was more used to hearing on the job, mid chase.
"You're a superstar, I've got to get going otherwise we'll end up eating around midnight. I love you Beloved." She told him, smiling at the pleased, satisfied sound he made in response to her comment.
"I love you more Danno, we'll be home soon with everything, the girls are sending you kisses or rather Grace is sending you a kiss, Emily is sending little raspberries instead." He said on a laugh before he hung up the phone on her.
Danni smiled as she placed her own handset onto the counter top, making sure it was out of the way of her cooking space and turned her attention to the medium sized piece of lamb which she had started defrosting at four AM that day after she had finished feeding Emily. Unwrapping it, she grabbed the mint and rosemary she was going to use to season the meat. Humming to herself she focused on the task in front of her, finding the familiar routine of cooking for her family relaxing.
She had just placed the lamb joint into the oven when the doorbell went off.
She glanced towards the kitchen door in surprise before she shrugged and straightened up, heading out of the room and towards the front door. Given what Steve had said on the phone she assumed that he had forgotten his keys yet again. It wouldn't be the first time he had forgotten in the rush of getting the girls out of the door and Danni doubted that it would be the last time either.
"Really Sweetheart, you'd forget your head if…" She began to say as she pulled open the door, her words stopping abruptly as she found herself confronted by a woman of average height with a sleek, well-kept blonde bob and a pair of familiar hazel eyes.
For a moment Danni stared in shock at the sight of Doris McGarrett standing at the door before she realised that there was someone else who was standing beside her, someone who she didn't know. She looked at the tall woman, taking in her pretty face, dark eyes and long dark hair, wondering briefly who she was and why she was with Doris of all people.
Danni gripped the front door tightly in her hand, thankful that neither Steve or the girls were there at that moment in time.
"Hello Danielle, it's lovely to see you again." Doris said finally, her tone making it clear that it was anything but lovely to see her. "You're looking well, I see that you've managed to regain your figure that you had before your pregnancy, you must be glad about that." She commented.
Danni's eyes narrowed at the backhanded compliment.
"You look well yourself Doris." She commented neutrally, as much as she wanted to tell the woman in front of her to fuck off before slamming the door in her face, she was still Steve's mother and she knew that deep down, Steve still hoped that they might be able to build some sort of relationship back with each other which meant Danni holding her tongue.
"Thank you, Hawaii was always a place which suited me." Doris responded, a brief smile coming to her face which didn't reflect in her cold eyes. "I was looking for my son, I was told by someone at the Five-O offices that he was living with you now rather than living in the family home but that he would be here at the weekends. I'm not sure why he would want to move out of here but perhaps the house was too large for him alone and he wanted to downsize." She said sweetly.
"Or perhaps he wanted to live in a home where his father wasn't murdered in the study. A place where it wasn't healthy for him to be, perhaps for once he put himself first." Danni retorted, watching the smile drop from Doris's face for a moment at the reminder of her husband's murder before she spoke.
"Perhaps so." She stated shortly before she waved her hand towards the dark haired woman. "I'm sure you already know Catherine Rollins so at least we can dispense with the introductions and you can instead call my son to the door."
Danni froze for a split second, her eyes flickering over to the woman who she now knew was Catherine, studying her closely as she tried to ignore the sudden wave of unease which came over her, not only at the fact that she was face to face with her fiancé's ex-lover who she had spoken to during cases but never seen but also because Doris and Catherine together would mean some form of trouble for Steve.
Clearly she and Catherine were as different to one another as night and day making her wonder briefly how Steve could like someone like her if Catherine had been his type but she pushed the thought away, knowing it would lead her down a bad path and instead focused her attention back to the last part of Doris's sentence.
"You'll be waiting a long time I'm afraid because Steve isn't here at the moment. If you want to tell me what you want with him then I can let you know you were here and he can decide whether he wants to call you back when he's home." She informed them, her voice coming out as steady and calm as she emphasised the word home.
"It's between me and my son." Doris replied.
"Fair enough, have a good day then." Danni replied going to close the door when Catherine spoke up for the first time
"It's hardly a secret Doris" She commented rolling her eyes before she looked back at Danni. "We came here because we wanted to talk to him about thanksgiving this year, it's a tradition for us to have it together."
Danni shot her a look of confusion at the comment, her eyes flickering over towards Doris in time to catch the smug glimmer in her eyes which told Danni that the older woman was clearly up to something and whatever it was included Catherine though whether the dark haired woman was aware she was being used was something Danni couldn't tell.
Whatever Doris was planning it wouldn't be good for any of them, that much Danni did know.
"I'm not sure what your plans normally were but Steve is having thanksgiving with us this year. It's the first one with our daughter and he's already arranged everything for it. He wants the four of us to spend it alone together." She told Catherine, breathing a silent sigh of relief when she saw her silver Camaro pull into the driveway, parking next to Steve's blue Silverado truck.
Maybe Steve would be able to understand what was going on better than she could.
