I'll always come home

Skye asked for a oneshot of Snow getting hurt whilst out fighting with Charming. When Emma comes to the hospital to see her, she gets angry at her for "not thinking". Whilst the reality is she was scared she would lose her.

Emma felt like she was at war with herself as she burst through several sets of doors at the hospital. In the background, she could faintly hear different people asking who she was and where she was going, even going as far as to tell her she couldn't go down whatever corridor she was on. Emma ignored them. She was seeing her mom.

Emma had been in Granny's with Henry when her dad called her. At first, Emma had worried he'd been the one hurt. He had insisted Emma take the day off today. He'd told her she'd been working so hard lately and deserved some time with her son since it was a school holiday. Emma had tried to get him to reconsider, but he was having none of it. So Emma relented and enjoyed her time with her quickly growing son. Emma wasn't to know that her mother would insist on leaving Neal with Ella for a playdate with Alex so she could accompany Charming for the day. She didn't want to leave him alone…and, if she was honest, she missed having adventures too.

It turned out, the royal pair got jumped by some of the low grade hooligans Storybrooke had to offer. The only reason Snow got hurt was because neither of them had seen the gang coming. They got one cheap shot at Snow's shoulder before Snow and Charming fought them off quick-smart. Charming quickly took Snow to the hospital where they discovered she had a fractured collarbone. Luckily, she wasn't going to require surgery. She had her arm put in a sling to support the bone whilst it healed properly, but would be staying in the hospital overnight, just to make sure no other damage was done. Snow was positive there wasn't, but she would set a good example for her children and follow the doctor's orders.

As soon as Charming was off the phone with her, Emma quickly explained the situation to Henry. He was eager to come to the hospital to see his grandma there and then, but Emma insisted he wait until she was home tomorrow. She didn't think Henry should be there to hear what Emma had to say to her.

Emma was still feeling the same swirl of emotions she had been when she got off the phone as she burst into the private room her mom had been placed in. Charming got up from the seat beside the bed to offer it to Emma. Emma shook her head, her jaw locked. Snow smiled warmly at her daughter.

"Hey Em." She said, drowsy from the strong painkillers she'd received. "Don't worry, I'm fine. Keeping me in overnight is just a precaution-"

"But it might not have been." Emma interrupted her. Snow and Charming were both a little stunned. Emma was clearly furious. "What were you thinking? You shouldn't have been out with dad in the first place!"

"Emma." Charming said in a warning tone. "Your mother's been through a lot today. Lower your voice and calm down." Emma took a few deep breaths, but she was still angry.

"Sure, you got lucky. It was just a bunch of thugs." Emma continued in a calmer voice, but her anger was still evident. "But what if it wasn't? What if it was someone more serious? Neal could have grown up without a mother." Now Snow and Charming understood. Yes, Emma was worried on her little brother's behalf, but it went deeper than that.

"Is it also possible you were worried you would lose me for yourself as well?" Snow prompted her. Emma went silent, just staring at her mom, lying there on the hospital bed. Snow could see the tears building up behind her eyes. She held out her hand that wasn't in a sling to her daughter. Emma stayed put. "Emma." Snow said gently. Emma sighed, shuffling forward and taking her mom's hand. "Sit down." Snow prompted her. Emma frostily perched herself on the edge of her mom's bed. Snow looked across to Charming who resumed his seat. "So, we can take it from that reaction then that I was correct?" Snow asked. Emma stayed silent. Snow took her hand out of Emma's and gently stroked her cheek. "Sweetheart, I'm sorry if I scared you, but it's going to take more than any villain's got to take me down for good. You think I'd leave you, your brother, Henry or your dad? No. Emma, I know you've only really known me either as meek minded Mary Margaret or as a mother to a baby. Before you were born, remember, I was the bandit princess. You've seen me with my bow and arrows. I can handle myself as well as your father. Sure, today I wasn't paying attention and I suffered because of that, but that won't turn me into some fuddy-duddy who just sits at home all day. This family is made up of risk takers. Yes, that's terrifying for me when it's your father or you, or now even Henry, taking the risk, but it's who we are. I'm never going to ask the rest of you to change. Please give me the same curtesy. I promise you that it won't ever mean losing me. I could never leave you, Emma. Never again." Emma still didn't respond, but she at least wasn't shouting anymore. Snow and Charming both understood. After waiting so long to find her family, any slight chance of someone leaving it terrified their daughter. She would probably always react strongly to incidents like this. It was their job to just keep reassuring her that no matter what happened, they would come home to her.
