And So It Begins
The following day, at 10:00 in the morning, Mokuba and Rebecca met up in one of the vineyards in the Secret Garden. "Sorry about what happened last night between you and your brother," the blonde told her boyfriend.
"Thanks," Mokuba replied. "I just don't get it. He's never acted this way before. Now it's like he's being overprotective and he doesn't support my friendship with you or the others anymore."
Rebecca began eating a few grapes. "Did something happen while you guys were in the Digital World?" Though she knew the story of their adventure, she wondered if something happened that caused the older brother to start acting the way he was.
But nothing happened that Mokuba could think of. "Seto's behavior to this extent wasn't like this in the past. It's like he's worried he's losing me or something. I can understand that after all we've gone through, but, I don't know. I kind of feel like he's smothering me."
Rebecca sighed. "You sound like you could use a break; need to get away from all this stress and strife. Want to go to another world for a while and hang out with our friends?"
Mokuba sighed as well. "As great as that sounds, Rebecca, I don't think I'm in the mood right now. Since my adventure in the Digital World, I feel like I need more." He got up and looked around. "I know just about every place here in the Pure Valley; where to go, where all the plants grow, all the meadows, fields, ponds, lakes, waterfalls, and hot springs. When I'm in another world, I try not to wander too far because I don't want to get into any real danger. And don't get me wrong, I love hanging out with the others and playing with them. It's just –"
"I get it," Rebecca interrupted. "You want something new and exciting."
"Yeah," Mokuba answered. "But I don't know what kind of adventure I want and that's what bothers me."
Rebecca understood Mokuba's tormented feelings. Then she got an idea. "Hey, why don't we wander around here for a while? While we're at it, maybe we can look for a place where we can have our own hideout."
Mokuba liked the idea. It would give him something to do while he was here and he didn't want to be at home right now. So he and Rebecca began looking around.
Nearby, the two saw Emily and her partner Gatomon picking strawberries. "Hi, Emily," they called to her. "Hi, Gatomon."
They turned around and gave them their attention. "Hi, Moki. Hi, Becky."
"Fancy meeting you two here," said Gatomon.
"Yeah, we just got here," said Mokuba. "What about you?"
Emily nodded. "We came here to get some fruit and vegetables. Once we're done, I'm going to head to the grocery store to get some more ingredients to bake with along with some other things to eat. Gatomon's here to help me out."
"Do you need any help?" Mokuba asked.
"No, thanks," Emily said politely. "But you can come over tomorrow and I can make you guys something. I can even make Guilmon bread again." Then she remembered. She set her basket down and reached for her parcel. She reached inside and took out a fresh loaf of bread. "Why don't you guys take this? It's a loaf of bread I made from the berries I picked here earlier this morning. I was going to give it to my friends in the Xiaolin world, but I think I'll give it to you guys instead. It may come in handy in case you get hungry."
Mokuba took the loaf of bread and placed it in his backpack. "Thanks, Emily. We appreciate it."
"We're going to wander around here for a while, but we may go to another world later," said Rebecca. "We'll let you know if we see anyone we know."
"Okay. Be careful, you two," said Emily.
Gatomon picked up the basket of strawberries. "It was nice seeing you guys again." She followed Emily to the apple trees nearby.
Mokuba and Rebecca resumed their search for a secret spot they could use. None of the shrubs provided much room and neither did most of the thickets. Finding a hiding place was proving to be hard. They eventually came to Celestic Falls, the Pure Valley's main waterfall, to rest for a while. Mokuba splashed some water against his face and Rebecca began soaking her feet. She also thought she saw a break in the cascade. She got up to get a closer look.
She called for Mokuba's attention. "Hey, Mokuba, check this out."
He got up and followed her. "Oh, wow, there's a cave behind the waterfall. I must not have noticed it before."
The two stepped inside. The cave was large in diameter and it seemed big enough to fit a few dozen people.
Mokuba seemed to like it. "You know, Becca, I think this could be a great hiding spot for us."
She agreed. "We can bring our friends here, play games, tell stories, have campfires. I don't think anyone could ever find us here."
As Mokuba looked around, he saw something ahead and went to check it out. He also took out a small flashlight. As he pointed his flashlight ahead, he was amazed at what he saw. "A door."
Rebecca approached him. "It is a door." Neither of them thought a door would be in a place like this cave. "Do you think it leads to another world?"
"Probably," Mokuba answered. Excitement began building up inside of him. He faces his girlfriend and asks her, "Are you up for an adventure, Rebecca?"
She smiled in response. "Anywhere you want to go, I'll go, Mokuba."
"Let's do it," he said with cheer. He opened the door and together, he and Rebecca passed through.
