What ifs gone wrong- part 2

A guest asked for a oneshot of a sequel to Ch2325 "What ifs gone wrong" where Henry and Emma talk about what he overheard at his grandparents. Emma reassures him they were meant to be mother and son and so he would always have been born.

babydoll: Sorry, but I don't write holiday themed oneshots after the holiday :).

Snow and Charming were both still upset with themselves for Henry overhearing their conversation. They knew despite what he had told them, that he would continue to struggle with the whole situation. So they decided to go ahead and tell Emma what had happened.

Emma wasn't mad at her parents for having that conversation. It wasn't like she had never thought about it herself. Their family situation was so complicated that it was only fair they got to talk about how they would have rather things had gone. But right now, Emma's priority was her son. She knew something was bothering him. She was just glad she now knew what it was.

Emma knocked on his door and waited for him to answer.

"Hey kid." She greeted him softly. Henry frowned, sitting up on his bed.

"Grandma and grandpa told you what I heard, didn't they?" He accused her. Emma was puzzled. How did he know? "You only speak to me like that when you're worried about me." He answered her silent question. Emma nodded, coming and sitting beside him on the bed.

"They said you took it rather well, once they explained." Emma told him. "It's ok to be confused about it all. It's a confusing situation." She said, nudging his shoulder with her own. Henry sighed.

"I know they wanted to raise you, like if you could go back now you'd raise me. That would have been good too, but then I wouldn't have gotten my other mom. Like if they'd raised you…I wouldn't have been born." Henry said quietly. He wanted his grandparents, and his mom, to have had everything they wanted. To have been together. But did he want it at the expense of his own life? Even Henry wasn't that selfless. Emma wrapped an arm around Henry's shoulders.

"See, I don't think that's true." She told him. Henry stayed quiet, listening.

"You like your comic books, right kid?" She asked him. Henry nodded, wondering where she was going with this. "Well, in a lot of superhero comics, or sci-fi in general, they have parallel universes, alternate realities, don't they?"

"Yeah…" Henry told her. "What's that got to do with this?"

"Well, in a lot of those alternate worlds, yeah some things are different, but some things stay the same, don't they?" Henry nodded again. "The key things never change. Sure, there's probably an alternate world somewhere out there where bunnies rose up to rule over all mankind, but even in that strange world, I have a son called Henry." Emma told him with a smile. "Some things are just meant to be, whatever reality you happen to be in. I believe that, even if I had been raised by my parents, you would have come along." Henry smiled, normally it was his job to be the believer out of the two of them.

"So is that some weird way of saying you and my dad were, like, star-crossed lovers or something?" He teased her. Emma rolled her eyes, playfully pushing his head.

"I wouldn't go that far, kid. But yeah, I think we probably would have always…met." Emma said, putting it as delicately as possible. "You ok now?" Henry smiled and nodded more confidently.

"Yeah. I think you're right. I was always going to be here to bug you. Some things were just meant to be." Emma laughed, glad to see Henry returning to his normal self.
