Chapter 6
It had now officially been one week since Jamie had been shot. One week since she had gotten to see his adorable eyes or hear his charming voice. One week since her life had been completely turned upside down in an instant. One minute she had been planning to tell Jamie that she was pregnant with their first child, and the next he was being whisked away into surgery after being shot. The last week had consisted of mostly everyday being spent at the hospital, day and night, constantly by his side waiting for him to wake up. Everyday each member of the Reagan family would stop by when their schedule allowed them too. Usually after work or during a break. Since Henry was retired, he normally would come and sit every day for a while.
About halfway through the week, Henry had insisted that Eddie go home and get some rest. She tried her best to tell him she didn't need to, but at the end of the day there was no beating Henry over things like that. So she ran home and took a good shower and tried to sleep for about 2 hours. She ended up crying herself to sleep for around 30 minutes. When she woke up, she headed straight back to the hospital, where Henry was still sitting and waiting. She hadn't been home again since that day. Everybody would try to get her to go home and get some sleep, but she didn't feel right leaving without him.
Finally, after about 6 days they had finally taken him off of all sedation and completely removed the ventilator. He looked so much better and peaceful laying there without that tube down his throat, she thought. Now it was just a waiting game to see when he would wake up. Eddie couldn't wait for that moment. She couldn't wait to see him open those wonderful hazel eyes that she loved so much.
As she was sitting there by his side, she started thinking about what they had been doing 6 weeks prior to all of this. They had just gotten married and been on there way to their honeymoon destination. For their honeymoon they had decided to go to Bora Bora and stay in an overwater bungalow on the lagoon. After Jamie had previously mentioned that during family dinner, they had booked the trip right away.
As they stepped off the plane, they couldn't help but take in that beautiful view. The fresh air that was blowing through the slight breeze was something that you could never have imagined living in New York City. When they got to the bungalow, they immediately went to slip in between the sheets.
The next morning as Eddie began to wake up, she glanced over at Jamie who was still sound asleep after the late night they had. She leaned in a little closer to him and carefully slid her arm over his waist which caused him to stir.
"Good morning, handsome" – Eddie said.
"Good morning, beautiful" – Jamie replied, while opening his eyes and turning his head to face hers.
"Where for real married now." – Eddie said, while smiling and staring at the wedding ring that was now sitting on her left hand.
"Yeah silly. I'm pretty sure that's why we had a wedding two days ago." – He playfully replied, while laughing.
"Shut up." – Eddie said, playfully slapping him on his stomach.
"I love you, Mrs. Reagan" – Jamie said to her while placing a small kiss upon her lips.
"Oooooo, I really love the sound of that" – Eddie said, as Jamie started to pull her underneath the comforter again.
She was pulled from her thoughts as she felt something squeeze her hand.
"Hey babe" – was all she heard while whipping her head up.
She instantly knew who's voice that was speaking to her, when she heard the hoarse and raspy sound. His voice had become hoarse she assumed from being on the ventilator for such a long time. However, it was as if it was the best sound in the world to her.
As she looked up, tears started streaming down her face. There they were, those adorable hazel eyes that she adored and had missed so much in the last week. She wasn't quite sure if this was real or if she was dreaming at the current moment.
"Jamie, honey" – she said while trying to keep her calm and fight back the tears.
"It is so good to see your wonderful eyes open, baby." – she continued, as they gazed into each other's eyes for what seemed like an eternity.
"You have no clue how scared you had me this past week. I thought I was going to lose you." – she said after a minute, while still trying to fight back tears, but failing.
"I'm sorry. You could never lose me." – he managed to say, still having a very sore throat.
"I should really get the doctor" – Eddie finally replied, knowing that the doctor would want to know that he had woken up.
"Okay" – Jamie replied, as Eddie leaned down to kiss him, and then turned to walk out of the room.
Eddie soon walked back into the room, with the doctor following behind her. She told Jamie that she was going to step out into the hallway to call and let his family know that he was awake. As she was about to step back into the room, the doctor stepped out and let her know that Jamie was doing fine right now, and that he would be back in a bit to check in again.
As Eddie walked back into Jamie's room, she couldn't help but stare at him. He was lying there with his eyes closed resting, so she tried to be quite walking in so she wouldn't disturb him. As he heard her walking in, he opened his eyes and seen her walking towards him. He noticed that she was staring and smiling at him with that beautiful smile that he had always loved.
"Hey, go back to sleep sweetie. You need your rest." – Eddie said to him.
"Come here" – he said, while holding his hand out for her to grab and hold.
"What do you need" – she asked, asked she grabbed his hand and stood there by the bed.
"I just wanted to tell you how beautiful you are, and tell you to lay with me." – he said, smiling at her.
"Honey, I have barely had any sleep at all in the past week. I'm definitely not beautiful. Also, I don't want to hurt you." – she replied.
"You'd be beautiful if you hadn't slept in a year. I promise that you're not going to hurt me. Please?" – he said, practically using a puppy dog face.
"Fine, but if I start to hurt you, then you better tell me" – she said, peacefully giving into his request.
As Jamie tried to easily slide over to make room, Eddie slowly and carefully curled up next to him on his right side.
Eddie carefully wrapped her arm over his waist, making sure to avoid touching the wound on his abdomen. The two chose to lay there in silence for a moment, until Eddie finally spoke up.
"Babe" - Eddie said, lifting her head to look up at him.
"Yeah" – he replied.
"Thank You" – she said.
"For what" – he questioned.
"Thank You for coming back to me" – she said, trying to not start crying.
"Always" – he placing a kiss on her forehead.
"I love you" – she said.
"Yeah, I kind of love you too" – he replied.
On that note, the pair drifted off to sleep, while lying snuggled up in each other's arms.
Author's Note: This chapter is definitely shorter than the others. Sorry about that everybody. Also, since were nearing the part were Eddie tells Jamie the secret, I thought I would ask you all your opinion. Should I continue the story after she tells him and write about the journey, or should I end it? Let me know in the reviews. As always, Thank You all for reading and reviewing. I absolutely love writing this fanfiction.
