I Believe In You
By the time Kaiba made it back to the inn, his friends were already having breakfast. Emily had returned to the Secret Garden get some fresh fruit to go with the bread Joey bought from the bakery. The heroes also checked their wallets and realized that they were running out of money. If they were going to be staying at the inn for a few more nights, then they needed a job. That was when they decided it was time for them to host a concert.
They would do this whenever they had an adventure in a new world. The boys would play their instruments and Emily would sing to the audience. Sometimes her friends would join her. Performing proved to be a very useful source of their income during their travels. The heroes often made enough money to pay for food and housing.
While getting things organized at the square, Kaiba informed his friends how he met and talked with Mokuba this morning. They were happy to know that Mokuba and Rebecca were under the hunchback's protection, but didn't know how long it would last for.
Meanwhile, in the bell tower, Mokuba and his friends finished their own breakfast as well and were helping Quasimodo tidy up the bell tower. As Mokuba was helping with the laundry, Quasimodo asked him, "Hey, Mokuba, tell me more about the Heroes of Millennia. What are they like?" Though he had kept himself hidden the other night when they came to the tower, he wanted to learn more about them.
Mokuba thought, then began, "Well, there's Joey, who represents the element of friendship. He's not always the smartest or bravest, but he is kind and loyal and will do anything for a friend." He chuckled and added, "Joey's nice and funny too."
Rebecca agreed. "He can really make you laugh. He also tends to have a fit when he doesn't receive any sort of recognition for his efforts. But, yeah, he's pretty cool." And she got back to scrubbing the floors. Leon had finished sweeping the floors and was now helping with the dusting.
"What about your brother, Mokuba?" Quasimodo asked. "Seto, I mean."
"Seto's the oldest of the group and he's a brilliant strategist. And like I mentioned before, he represents the element of wisdom. He takes his time carefully analyzing problems before taking any actions. Sometimes he may seem selfish and arrogant, but whatever crazy action he takes, he does it for the good of the people he cares about." He took a line and began connecting the clothes to it for when they would dry. "Sometimes Seto will even say things I don't really understand," Mokuba added.
"I hear you," Quasimodo said, thinking of how his master was the same way. He tied one end of the line to one of the ramps above and asked, "What about Yugi? The leader, right?"
"That's right," Rebecca said as she continued scrubbing. "Yugi's an inspiration to us all. Like a leader should be, he's brave, graceful, and thoughtful of others."
"He represents the element of courage," Mokuba added. "It's funny, though. Naturally, he's shy, but he's proven he can be brave when it comes to standing up for what's right." He finished connecting the clothes to the line and tied his end to another ramp.
"What about Emily?" Quasimodo asked. "The princess, I mean."
Leon sighed affectionately. "Oh, man, she's a sight to behold. Like all the princesses I've read about in stories, she sure fits the category. She's beautiful, kind, gentle, and she has a big heart."
"I guess that's why she represents the element of love," Rebecca commented. "But, yeah, she is sweet and has a loving nature and can be very forgiving." She faces the hunchback and adds, "And as you already know, she's a great baker."
"I know," he told her. "Most of the baked good you guys brought with you were made by her." He climbed down and suggested, "Speaking of which, why don't we stop and take a break? You deserve it after working so hard and I'm sure you're hungry."
"Great idea," Rebecca said, getting on her feet. Mokuba brought the food he and Leon got from the market to the table and Rebecca poured milk for herself and her friends.
Just when they were about to start eating, they heard music coming from the square. Leon was the first to look outside. "Oh, wow, it's a concert!" he said with ecstasy.
Mokuba looked outside and saw that it was the heroes. "Oh, I forgot to mention, my brother and his friends like to host concerts and perform."
Rebecca smiles and tells Quasimodo, "You're in for a special treat. Let's go to the balcony. We can get a better view from there." Her friends agreed and followed her. When they made it to the balcony, Emily began singing.
Who do I turn to when things are broken?
Where do I go when I'm feeling alone?
Who's always there with arms wide open? It's you. Yeah, it's you
Where do I hide when it's dark and stormy?
Where do I run when it's all too much?
Who gives me hope when I wake each morning? It's you. Yeah, it's you
You were there for me in my darkest days
You cared for me when I lost my way
My guiding light, you always pull me through
I believe in you. Yeah, yeah
When I stumble and fall, you take my hand
When I don't have a clue, you know what to do
When nothing makes sense, you help me to understand, it's true
It seems like forever, it's been you and me
I know who you really are
Sometimes I wonder, where would I be without you?
You were there for me in my darkest days
You cared for me when I lost my way
My guiding light, you always pull me through
Yeah, you gave me strength when I was weak
You were my voice when I could not speak
One ray of hope that I could hold on to
I believe in you
As Mokuba and Quasimodo listened to the song, they wondered if it was about them. In a way, the words described their feelings for each other. As for Leon and Rebecca, they were dancing and moving to the song.
They weren't the only ones watching. Far at the end of the crowd, the minister himself came to see what was going on. When he moved a little closer to the stage, he was astonished to see the heroes again after seeing them the other night. Who would have thought they were also performers? As Frollo looked at Emily, he realized he could not take his eyes off of her. He watched her dance as he listened to her sing. Her movements were graceful, her voice was angelic. Who was she? Then he began to observe the others who were playing the music. There was no doubt in his mind that they resembled the warriors of Millennia he had heard about. But the girl, was it possible? He had to find out more about her. He left the square and returned to the Palace of Justice to confirm his suspicions.
When the performance ended, the people in the audience tossed their coins to the stage and applauded the heroes for a wonderful performance.
