One of them is Hope

The next morning, the heroes had breakfast in the square. They felt assured that Mokuba and Rebecca were safe, but they decided to stay a while longer and enjoy their time in Paris. Yugi saw that Emily hadn't touched her food. "Are you all right, Emily?"

She turned her attention away from the cathedral. "Yeah, just thinking, I guess."

"You're not still tormented by those thoughts you had when we first came to the cathedral, are you?" Kaiba asked.

"No, it's not that," she was saying. "But while I was inside, I was also thinking about Robert. And I was praying for him to turn himself to the Lord and for God to soften his heart."

Yugi remembered and ask, "Didn't you mention that he was Catholic?"

Emily thought about it. "I thought he was. I mean, he said he was, but…" she sighed and said, "We kind of had another argument about me living in Domino. I told him I believed that things would all work out for me because I trusted in God. But then Robert argued that there was no such thing as God." She frowned and said, "I called him a hypocrite for saying that."

"I think he is," Joey said after swallowing his bread. "I mean, how can he be Catholic if he doesn't believe in God?"

"Everyone loses faith over time," Kaiba stated. "I actually once had a talk with Robert and faith even came up on the subject. He told me he hadn't prayed to God since his ex-wife died. Maybe that's when he stopped having faith."

Yugi spoke up. "I remember when I was young, I asked Rachel to tell me about Robert. She said he was brought up to be a Catholic. He attended church with his family and even went to Sunday school. But as he got older, he started turning away from faith and kept his focus on reality."

Emily nodded. "My mom also said when I was born, Robert wanted to consider taking me to get baptized, but she didn't agree. It wasn't that she was turning away from God. Believe me, my mom was very faithful to Him and put her effort in trying to teach me about Him and the Bible. But she didn't want me to be baptized because she wanted me to be free in choosing my own faith and what I wanted to believe in." She sighed and said, "Robert and I still aren't on good terms, but even so, I pray for God to protect him and bless him and fill him with hope." Then she raised her head to Heaven. "I also want Robert to have the chance to find the Lord so that he may also be saved and redeemed and see the glory of God."

It was amazing. Despite the difficult relationship Emily had with Robert, she still loved him.

"You know," Kaiba was saying, "there is a verse in the Bible that says, 'Walk by faith; not by sight.' At least I think that's how it goes." It had been a while since he last read the Bible.

Emily nodded and figured Robert should try to follow that verse and not just focus on reality all the time, but to also hope and dream and see things differently. Then she let out a small sneeze.

"Gesundheit," Joey said in response. He finally looked at Emily and saw how tired she looked. "You sure you're okay there, Em?"

"Yeah, I'm fine," she insisted. "I'm going to go back to the inn and get some rest."

"Do you want us to come with you?" Yugi offered.

"No, that's all right," she said politely. "The inn's not that far from here anyway. I'll be fine." She picked up her knapsack and placed it over her shoulders.

"Don't worry, I'll keep an eye on her," Gatomon said, and began following her. The boys watched with worry and hoped Emily would be all right.

As Emily made it past the square and began walking through the streets, she began to feel even more tired. Her strength was giving out and she was struggling to keep her eyes open. She stopped and got down on the ground.

Gatomon saw this and asked, "Emily, what's wrong?" She brushed her hair back and felt her forehead with her paw. The cat Digimon gasped at how hot her partner felt. She cried for help by meowing like a cat.

The sound of a cat's cries got the attention of a white goat nearby. The goat bleated and coming into the street was a young gypsy girl with wavy black hair tied back with a pink ribbon and emerald green eyes. She was also garbed in a white top with a green corset with gold stripes and a purple dress and a sarong of a darker shade of purple tied at her waist. She also had gold bracelets over her wrists and an anklet over her foot and an earring.

Gatomon saw her and assumed that this had to be Esmeralda and her goat Djali. She ran to them, meowing at them. Esmeralda gasped at the sight of the young girl lying in the street. She approached her and carefully lifted her from the ground. "Hang on," she whispered. "I'm going to get you help."

Emily groaned in response. Esmeralda knew she had to hurry or the blonde wouldn't make it. Fortunately she knew a place where they'd be safe. She hurried while carrying Emily with Djali and Gatomon running beside her.

You're going to be okay, Emily, Gatomon thought.
