Who's Trapped Who?
Kaiba made it back to the inn and alerted his friends of what happened while he was out. Quite frankly, they were not happy to hear about the bargain.
"You did what!?" Yugi asked in anger.
"Christ, Kaiba," Joey cried.
"It's not what it seems," Kaiba was explaining.
"Kaiba, how could you?" Yugi snapped.
Joey agreed. "You made a deal with the devil! I mean, agreeing to give him Emily in exchange for Mokuba's freedom?"
"Shut up!" Kaiba shouted, trying to calm them down. "I wouldn't agree to this if I didn't know what I was doing. But I'm asking you to trust me. If we work together and play this carefully, we can rescue Mokuba and his friends and all of us can escape without becoming Frollo's prisoners."
Yugi, Joey, and Emily didn't like this, but they remembered how cunning and clever Kaiba was and thought that maybe he did have a plan. Emily broke the silence and asked, "Where's Frollo now?"
"He's waiting for us near the side entrance of the cathedral on the west side," the brunette explained.
"What's your plan on rescuing Mokuba and the others?" she asked.
The group huddled together and Kaiba began sharing his plan. He would casually bring Emily over to the side entrance where Frollo was waiting. Yugi and Joey would take a different route there and hide in the shadows. Then Kaiba would give the signal and the heroes would fight off the soldiers and help the children get a head start on escaping to safety.
It seemed like a good plan. To help Yugi and Joey get to the cathedral undetected, Kaiba used his scepter to cast an invisibility spell on them. "This spell won't last long, so you'd better hurry while you have the chance," Kaiba told them. Yugi and Joey left the inn and hurried to the cathedral.
The brunette looked at Emily. "Are you ready for this, Briar?"
She sighed and said, "All I can say is I trust you, Kaiba." Gatomon nodded.
"Okay," he told her. "But in case you get scared," and he wrapped a blindfold over her eyes and began guiding her by taking her hand. She was able to see a little bit through her blindfold, but her vision was still obscured.
Yugi and Joey made it to the area where the children were being guarded. Yugi silently and carefully used his sword to cut the ropes that were binding them. Mokuba felt his restraints being loosened and wondered what was going on. He also saw Rebecca's ropes being cut as well.
Joey removed Leon's gag and whispered in his ear. "Stay quiet and don't move." He moved to Mokuba and Rebecca and removed their gags as well. To keep the soldiers convinced that they were still bound, the children moved closer together, hiding their arms behind their backs. Joey and Yugi also noticed that the spell was starting to wear off, so they hurried over to the shadows. Then they saw Kaiba coming with Emily and Gatomon.
Kaiba kept looking around cautiously, hoping Frollo wouldn't try anything sly. As promised, the minister remained in the same place he was standing when Kaiba left. "Kaiba, I was beginning to worry," he said mockingly.
Emily shuddered at the sound of his voice.
"I'm pleased to see that you've brought the girl with you."
The brunette nodded. "I've done my part, now let my brother and his friends go," he ordered.
The minister slightly grinned. "You think it's that easy. I would think you should know a bargain doesn't always work like that. There's more to it than an exchange."
Kaiba growled. "I thought as much." He forced a grin as well. "Fortunately I'm always one step ahead." Then he saw his friends and shouted, "Now!"
Joey and Yugi came out of the shadows and began fighting with the soldiers. Yugi drew his sword and Joey took a few arrows from his quiver. "Be careful not to hurt these guys, Joey," Yugi warned. "Remember, they're just men following orders."
"I'll try," Joey replied.
Kaiba began using his own fighting skills to take down the soldiers guarding the children. He stopped and turned his attention to his brother. "Mokuba, you and your friends, get inside the church. You'll be safe there."
"But, Seto-,"
"We'll be fine," Kaiba told him. "Just get in and stay there until we come for you." Reluctantly, they nod and hurry inside the cathedral while the heroes hold off the soldiers.
Emily removed her blindfold and began using her magic. She used her Lucent Beam to strike the soldiers with a ray of light. However, the attack was only a painless flash. Even though she got over her fever, she wasn't at full strength yet. Suddenly, she began to feel dizzy and she fell on her knees.
Frollo noticed how weak Emily looked and took that as an opportunity to seize her. He came up from behind her and forced her arms behind her back. "That's enough!" he shouted.
Gatomon tried to run to Emily to help her, but a soldier grabbed her and tied her in a sack.
Yugi, Joey, and Kaiba looked in horror as they saw their friend being held back. "Don't touch her!" Yugi shouted to Frollo. "Take your hands off her!" He tried to charge up to him, but was being held back by the soldiers.
"I'm afraid the princess is mine now," the minister said triumphantly. "Don't worry. I'll take good care of her."
Emily tried to pull herself together, but in the state she was in, it was useless to fight back. "Yugi," she groaned weakly.
Frollo secured shackles over her wrists and roughly dropped her to the ground. "Take the Heroes of Millennia to the Palace of Justice," he ordered his men. "Put them in separate carriages, though. One for the princess and her cat and another for the boys."
Two men carefully lifted Emily from the ground and placed her in the first carriage.
"No!" Joey shouted, trying to break free. "You won't get away with this, Frollo!"
"Emily!" Yugi cried as the soldiers forced him in the other carriage.
Kaiba looked up at the balcony of Notre Dame and saw Mokuba and the others watching in horror. The brunette didn't know what was going to happen to him or his comrades, but at least his brother was safe.
