Kyrie Eleison
When Emily said she failed love, she wasn't necessarily referring to her element. She had remembered reading a passage in the Bible that read God is love. So in actuality, what Emily really meant was that she had failed the Lord. Even though she knew what a manipulative man Frollo was, Emily sensed some truth in his words. He was right when he said that the path that she walked on that she thought to be the path of good was not a path of good at all. Try as she might, her efforts were still wrong because she was in service to another deity and that was against the commandments.
Not that it mattered to Frollo. In his eyes, this girl was a sinner all the same. But he figured he knew how to get her to submit to him. "You poor child," he said, feigning concern. "You really are a lost one in need of being saved."
Emily frowned as she listened to him talk. He reminded her so much of Dartz with the way he spoke and how manipulative he was. Perhaps that was why the feelings she harbored for this man were more of sorrow than of hate.
Frollo placed his hands over her shoulders. "I can help you if you'll let me."
"What could you possibly do?" Emily asked, trying to sound disinterested. Gatomon growled at the sight of this man touching his partner.
"I can save you from this path of lies that has corrupted you as well as the troubled thoughts that have plagued your heart for so long," he was saying. "Join me on the path of righteousness, Princess, and you will be saved and redeemed."
Emily knew what he was trying to do and she was about to lose her composure; especially with him this close to her. Finally, she freed herself and cried, "No!" She stepped back and faced him. "I could never stoop to something as low as joining your cause. Besides, you aren't any more righteous than I am, Frollo." She suddenly felt her strength giving out again and was about to lose her balance. She got down on her knees and placed her hand against her head.
"Princess?" Frollo asked, feigning concern. "What's wrong? Have you finally lost it?"
"No," she groaned.
The minister approached her and felt her forehead. She was hot to the touch. "You're sick," he observed. This changed the whole game out of his favor. He couldn't take advantage of her while she was in this condition. Her mind was weary and she was weak. Besides, if she wouldn't give in to him, Frollo would much rather have her die by his hands than from her sickness. So unfortunately, whether he liked it or not, he had to do something to help her.
Gatomon got between the two of them, trying to protect her tamer. She bared her teeth and growled. Frollo paid her no mind and kicked her aside. "Impudent creature," he growled. He found a servant who worked in the Palace of Justice and ordered him to have Emily taken to the infirmary. Ignoring her pain, Gatomon got up and followed her.
Frollo watched as Emily was being taken to get treatment. I'll give you until you've recovered, young princess. Maybe by then, you'll have changed your mind.
In the dungeon, the boys were becoming even more anxious. A guard only came once to provide them with bread and water. They tried asking him about Emily, but not even he had any knowledge of where she was being kept.
A few minutes later, the minister came to the dungeon to meet his prisoners. Just seeing him was enough to fill Yugi with rage. "You!" he growled, getting up and approaching the door of the cell.
Joey grabbed him to hold him back. "Whoa, Yugi!"
"Well, if it isn't the ever righteous Claude Frollo," Kaiba said sarcastically. "I was worried you had forgotten about us."
"Your insolence will get you nowhere," Frollo replied. "You three are at my mercy, do not forget."
"Where's Emily?" Yugi asked. When Frollo said nothing, Yugi demanded, "You'd better tell me where she is! And I swear, if you've done anything to her-,"
"At ease, dear boy," Frollo interrupted. "Your princess friend is safe."
Kaiba scoffed. "Does that mean you had that little talk you wanted to have with her? Did it go well?"
"No," the minister answered, pinching the bridge of his nose. "I tried to offer her my help, but before she could give me an answer, the poor dear collapsed with a fever." Seeing their shocked expressions, he assures them, "Not to worry, I had her sent to the infirmary. She will be cared for there."
Yugi clenched his teeth and growled, "I swear to God-,"
"Yugi, calm down," Kaiba pleaded.
Frollo chuckled in amusement. Based on this boy's rage, he clearly has feelings of affection for the princess. He wondered if Emily had the same feelings for Yugi. Of that, he didn't care. But there was another opportunity in this. He could break the boy she loved; break him until he was at the point of death. Yes, surely Emily would do anything to save her love. But in order for him to put a plan in motion, the minister needed his prisoners to be alive and well.
Finally, he spoke and promised Yugi, "Not to worry – Yugi, isn't it? I'll see to it that you and your friends Kaiba and Joey see the princess soon enough. After all, we'd hate for young love to go to waste, wouldn't we?"
"I want to see her now!" Yugi protested with tears in his eyes. "I need to make sure she's okay!"
Frollo wouldn't let him. He knew that letting Yugi, Joey, and Kaiba out of the cell meant that they would thoroughly search the entire Palace of Justice until they would find Emily. And once they would find her, they would plot an escape. He couldn't let that happen. "Trust me, boy, you'll be together again sooner than you think."
It was taking every bit of strength Joey had to hold his friend back. But even he couldn't hold his own anger back anymore. "What's this about anyway, Frollo? You know we're not gypsies and we know you're not a servant to the Dark Lord. Why'd you decide to come after us? I mean, we never did anything to you, so why are you holding us prisoners?"
"And why haven't you killed us off yet?" Kaiba added. "You've been goading us on and it's been annoying the hell out of us. And you haven't even answered my first question. What the hell do you want with Briar?"
"Briar?" Frollo asked in confusion.
"We're talking about Emily, you scumbag," Joey barked. "If you haven't killed her yet, that can only mean you want something from her, right?"
Yugi had a feeling he knew. "You're consumed by lust for her, aren't you?" he assumed. He had seen guys lust after Emily before, but this was cruel.
"Oh, Christ!" Joey cried in disgust. "That's sick!"
Yugi finally broke free from the blonde lad's grip. "I swear, Frollo, if you do anything to Emily-,"
"You're in no position to be making threats, boy," he interrupted. "One way or another, the princess will be mine. And if not, well, I'll still have one consolation: destroying the Heroes of Millennia." He smiled wickedly and left the dungeons.
Joey growled. "I hate that guy."
