What's in a name

KatCS15: asked for a oneshot of *6x11 spoilers!* Emma telling her parents how she got her last name. So this will be set after the curse is broken :).

Guest: I do get where you're coming from, but I can't control the requests I get. If you want a more fluffy daddy Charming oneshot, all you've gotta do is ask. Although I dispute your theory it's all the same person, or that they have a thing against fathers or males. All you have to do is look at the last requester's stories to know that isn't true. justanoutlaw writes awesome daddy Charming stuff!

Sup pup: I'm afraid that kinda thing has already been covered.

Important: As usual, if you have any requests from tonight's episode, great! Just please give me a spoiler warning first.

Slightly less important: Ama level with you guys. This week is really important for me. I've got a big test type thing this week that I really REALLY don't want to have to resit. So if you're a praying person, prayers would be appreciated. If not, then kind thoughts would be great too :).

"So, wait. You didn't get your surname from the first family that took you in?" Snow asked, confused. She and Charming had both always assumed that Emma got her last name from the family that were going to adopt her. She'd always referred to them by their first names, though, but Snow and Charming never had any reason to assume Emma got her last name differently. Emma shook her head.

"Well, I did, but it wasn't Swan. I was Emma Smith." Emma explained. Snow and Charming wrinkled their noses. It just didn't suit her. Emma laughed at their almost comical reactions. "Yeah, I know. When August reminded me of that story and gave me another chance, I felt Emma Swan was a good way to go. I liked Emma, would be harder to get a blanket with another name." Charming smiled warmly. He and Snow both still found some comfort in the fact that, even when they couldn't raise her, Emma always had her blanket. She always had a little piece of home. "My initials didn't change that way either, so it was an easier adjustment." Emma added. Snow and Charming still weren't sure how they felt about knowing Emma had once been Emma Smith. How many Emma Smiths' must their be in the world? Certainly more than there are Emma Swans. To them, Emma was unique. So it just felt more natural that she should have a more unique name. Plus, they didn't miss the little metaphor behind it all. Emma had once thought of herself as un ugly duckling, but oh how wrong she was. She was their little swan, she just had to come home.
