We Will Meet Again
The heroes stopped at the inn to pick up their supplies. Afterwards they headed to the cathedral to meet up with the children and take them home. Kaiba was the first to climb up the steps to the bell tower. When he came to the balcony, he stopped to wait for his friends to catch up.
At that moment, Mokuba came outside. He saw his brother and cried jubilantly, "Big brother!" and ran to him. Kaiba smiled and caught his brother in his arms and began embracing him. "You're okay," Mokuba said, crying.
Leon and Rebecca came outside as well. "Hey, guys," the amber-eyed lad cheered. "You made it!"
"I'm so very glad to see you!" Rebecca cheered, hugging Yugi.
Joey ruffled her hair. "Did you have so little faith in us?"
"We were just so worried," Leon admitted.
"But we knew you'd escape and come back," said the younger blonde.
Kaiba saw Quasimodo watching from the door. He released his brother and approached the hunchback. "Thank you," he said with seriousness in his tone.
The hunchback understood what the brunette meant and nodded. He had kept his friends safe like he promised he would. "I'm glad to see that you and your friends are safe, Kaiba." The brunette nodded. "When I heard about how you were captured-,"
"We've been through worse, believe me." But he had to admit, the minister of justice proved to be a very formidable foe. "Come on. Come meet my friends."
Quasimodo carefully stepped out of the shadows and came into the light. The others turned their attention to the hunchback. "Hey," Joey said with excitement. He approached him and said, "I wondered when I was finally going to get to meet you and here you are."
Yugi and Emily came by as well. "Hi, there," Yugi greeted.
"It's nice to meet you," said Emily. Gatomon freed herself from her arms and happily jumped on Quasimodo and began climbing all over him. Emily giggled. "I take it you and Gatomon have already met."
"Yes, we did," Quasimodo replied shyly. "She came to the bell tower while you were in the cathedral."
The heroes introduced themselves, starting with Yugi. "My name is Yugi. I'm the hero of courage."
"I'm Joey, the hero of friendship," the blonde lad bragged.
"And my name's Emily," the blonde girl introduced. "I'm the hero of love."
"Oh, yes," the hunchback replied. "Moki and Becky have told me so much about you."
"We've heard a lot of great things about you too," Yugi returned. "We can't stay for too long, but we wanted to meet you at least before we had to go."
"Well, I'm glad you were able to stop by," Quasimodo told him. "I've been looking forward to meeting all of you."
Kaiba turned his attention back to his brother. "What do you say, little brother? Are you ready to get everyone home where we belong?"
Mokuba looked at his brother, then back at Quasimodo. He had actually discussed it with him during his stay in the bell tower. The hunchback suggested that his friends should return home to their world once the heroes would return for them. With things becoming dangerous and with Frollo after them, Quasimodo wanted his friends to be safe. Mokuba understood that he was thinking about him and his friends, but even so, the raven-haired lad didn't want to leave.
"I think it's for the best that you return home to your world," Quasimodo told him.
Even Leon was feeling a little upset. "I was still just getting to know you."
"I know, Leon," the hunchback returned. "But I'm sure your family's worried about you."
Rebecca thought about her grandfather and how much she missed him. "Maybe we should go, guys. We've been away for a long time. Let's go home." It wasn't that she didn't want to be here anymore. She loved being in the bell tower and being with Quasimodo, but she didn't belong in this world. To make it a little less hard, Rebecca tells her friends, "Think of it this way, it'll be like we never left. And we can come back any time we want to."
Mokuba managed to smile. "You're right. We'll see each other again." He faces Quasimodo and adds, "Who knows? Maybe we'll be back for the Feast of Fools."
"Maybe?" Rebecca asked. "Of course we will. We don't want to miss it."
"That time will come sooner than you think," said Quasimodo. "And I'll be looking forward to it." He turns his attention to the heroes and asks, "Will you be there?"
Joey shrugged. "Who knows? I kind of like it here." He thought about it. "Sure, I'll be there."
"We'll come back to this world sometime," Emily promised. Besides, she didn't want to forget the promise she made to Esmeralda and Clopin about wanting to help them.
Yugi and Kaiba nodded. "All right, kids, go ahead and say your goodbyes," the brunette said.
Quasimodo beckoned his friends into his arms. Mokuba, Rebecca, and Leon walked up to him and began hugging him. "I'll miss you, my friends."
"We'll miss you too," Leon returned.
"Thanks for being our friend," Rebecca said gratefully.
"Thank you for coming into my life," the hunchback returned. "I owe you everything." He released them and turned his attention to Mokuba. "You're a warrior in my eyes, Mokuba." The raven-haired lad smiled. Quasimodo turned his attention to Rebecca. "I hope you discover your element soon, Rebecca."
She smiled and nodded. Then she reached into her knapsack and took out the picture of her and her friends. "Here. You can keep this. Something to think of us with."
Quasimodo thanked her and took the photo. He finally turned his attention to Leon. "I hope to see you and the others again soon, Leon."
He smiled and said, "I may drag them over for a visit one of these days."
"Take care of yourself, Quasi," Mokuba said, patting his arm.
"I will," he promised. "And we'll be together again before any of you have grown any taller." They all laughed. Quasimodo knelt down to pet Gatomon. He also picked her up and handed her over to Emily.
Kaiba smiled and told the hunchback, "You know, I'm glad those kids like you." Before Quasimodo can say anything, the brunette tells him, "No, I am not surprised; only glad." He turned his attention back to his friends. "Come on, everybody. Let's go home." Everyone agreed and began walking.
As Quasimodo watched them leave, he told them, "Have a safe journey." He waved goodbye and added, "I'll miss you. And thank you, for everything." They all returned his wishes and promised to meet again.
