Before the story of how they perished came to pass, Lily Evans and James Potter shared another story – a story of how they lived.
The Sun Still Rises
Author: WorldNerd12
Full Summary: When the Sorting Hat first placed a kind-hearted bookworm and a mischievous troublemaker in Gryffindor together on September 1st, 1971, dislike instantly flared between the two young first years, but by the time the Dark Lord came for their only son, those two brave souls shared a bond of love strong enough to endure long after death had taken them. It is said that love and hate are so different yet so, so similar. Because while those two powerful emotions may each be on their own ends of the spectrum, there is a time when love and hate must touch for the briefest of moments – and that is the moment that changed the lives of Lily Evans and James Potter forever.
Overall Rating: T for eventual violence, language, and adult themes. 50/50 chance I may change it to M for Part 3 to be on the safe side Basically: rating will match Lily and James's ages.
Main Pairings: James/Lily
Special Notes: This story has been completely revised and rewritten as of 2/11/2021, all the way up until the end of fourth year.
Disclaimer: I own nothing. Everything belongs to the brilliant genius that is J.K. Rowling.
A Brief Message from the Author:
Hello! This is WorldNerd12, and I first want to thank you for choosing to read my story. I hope that you enjoy my take on the lives of Lily Evans and James Potter.
This story spans from James and Lily's first year at Hogwarts all the way up to Voldemort's attack on October 31st, 1981 and the immediate aftermath. Considering that the story spans ten whole years, be warned that this story will be long, both in length and time.
***IMPORTANT NOTE: This is the REWRITTEN and REVISED version. Please don't skip down to the latest chapter because there's plenty of changes and new material, and you may be confused if you do skip down to the latest chapter. If the changes are major, then I will put a note at the bottom so that you all know there was a reason behind the change.
I am not going to explain every little thing BUT there is a reason for each and every change. Also, this story is canon, and I rarely make any deviations except for several small modifications.
I tried to take as many suggestions into account as possible. However, when I tried to switch Word to British instead of American English, it would also change if I was writing stuff like job applications and school papers, so I gave up on British spellings because it was too much of a hassle. Also, all the names like Macdonald and McKinnon are spelled that way because that's how it's spelled in the books.
When I was writing the original story, I was too focused on getting the next chapter up that I didn't stop to think more than a couple chapters ahead, and if I got an idea, I wanted to get it up asap, regardless of if it made sense within the timeline – but I am not going to make the same mistake again. Instead, what I'll be doing is writing in chunks and making sure I have a good idea of what each separate part needs to accomplish.
This story is divided into five parts: Part 1 will follow Lily and James up until their fifth year and the O.W.L.s incident; Part 2 deals with Lily and James's sixth and seventh years; Part 3 follows the lives of Lily and James after they leave Hogwarts and join the Order of the Phoenix; Part 4 details my version of their lives in hiding; Part 5 is much smaller and will detail with the aftermath of Voldemort's downfall (the epilogue was actually one of the first things that I wrote, which means that's it's been sitting on my computer for years now, LOL).
The bulk of the story will take place in Parts 1,2, and 3. You have two options: you can read only Parts 1 and 2 if you are one of those people who need happy endings, or you can read the entire story, which will have a bittersweet ending.
And now that I have said all that stuff I am sure plenty of people have already skipped, we can get on with the actual story.
Enjoy!
PS: I solemnly swear to never leave you on a major cliffhanger unless I already have the next chapter written.
