*Ben's POV*

My eyes instantly tightened as the bright light started to enclose then; I grunted slightly and I turned my head away. My eyes slowly opened once more and I couldn't help but notice that my head felt woozy; and through my tired eyes I could see that I was lying in a hospital bed.

My mind then started to relive the last thing I could remember; I remembered looking down loving at Mal before I saw a red dot appear on his chest. I then quickly pushed Mal down to the floor; but before we touched the ground I felt a sting in my left shoulder that told me that I had just been shot. I started to see the concern and panic in her eyes; I remember seeing her lips move but I couldn't hear her voice as I could just hear a buzzing in my eyes. The last thing I can remember is seeing the panic in her eyes before my eyes rolled and darkness quickly assaulted me.

As my eyes kept involuntarily opening and closing slightly my mind started to panic on the fact that I needed to know where or how Mal was; I could hear my parents, Evie, Jay and Carlos talking but no Mal. Panic started to set in at the fact that I couldn't hear her talking to our family - I hoped that nothing had happened to her after I had blacked out.

"Mal" I muttered as I fought to open my eyes fully.

"Ben!" I heard my mother exclaim, which caused the room to go quiet as my eyes rolled open. I watched as my parents, Jay, Carlos and Evie all ran forward and surrounded me. However this only made me worry even more; where on Auradon is Mal?

"Mal" I muttered again; as I moved but winced in pain when I moved my shoulder. "I need Mal!" I exclaimed in panic.

"Hey!" my mother cooed as she swept my hair out of my eyes. "Mal's here" she told me with a smile. "She's safe" she quickly added calmly as she stroked my hair once more.

"Where?" I panted slightly.

"There" she replied as she nodded behind me. "Look" she advised; I then slowly looked over and as I did this I saw all of our family smile warmly at me until my eyes landed on Mal. I froze when my eyes landed on her as I noted that she was currently lying asleep in a hospital bed that was pressed against mine; I pursed my lips together when I noted that she had a wound on the top of her head - apparently I hadn't been as careful as I tried to be when I tried to make sure that she wasn't shot at. I then pushed this away as I started to gaze at my wife; she was currently lying circled tightly into a ball; and she had her left hand loosely wrapped around my right hand, which made me tighten my hand around her hand.

"What's wrong?" I questioned as I started to wonder what was wrong with Mal for her to be in a hospital bed.

"Ben calm down" my father stated.

"No!" I exclaimed as I quickly looked over to him. "What is wrong with my wife?" I urged; the fact that they wouldn't give me a straight answer was starting to make me worry. Had something happened to Mal or the baby or both!

"She had a head injury," Evie answered.

"Is she ok?" I urged as I looked back at my perfect sleeping dragon.

"She will be now she knows you are awake" I heard Evie answer.

"What about the baby?" I asked; and out of the corner of my eye I saw them all freeze at this. So I had been right; something had happened to our baby? Please don't say this is the case! Please Lucifer no!

"What?" I asked as I looked at them all to see all of their concerned faces. "What about our baby?" I stressed.

"This should come from Mal," my mother answered.

"No!" I exclaimed. "I want to hear about it now" I fired at them. Why couldn't they just answer my question? Why wouldn't they tell me what had happened to mine and Mal's baby? Something surely has had to have happened, given how they were reacting.

"The baby is fine" my mother answered. "But it was touch and go," she advised.

"What?" I repeated in shock.

"When Mal found out who had done this she started panicking-" my mother began. "Stating that it should have been her and not you, that is when-" she continued but stopped herself.

"Yes?" I prompted.

"She started getting pain," she advised. "And bleeding" she quickly added; and I froze in shock. Mal nearly lost our baby! Had I hurt her in any way? I would need to check that with her, if I had nearly caused us to lose our perfect little one then I would never be able to forgive myself.

"Bleeding" I repeated as I looked back over to Mal.

"Yes" I heard my mother. "But everything is ok," she added. "It was due to the stress of the situation, that's why Doctor Cameron wants to keep her in for observation" she explained. "Which I don't think she has a problem with" I heard her say happily, which made me look back at my mother. "She's never going to leave your side" she finished happily.

"Of course I won't" I heard a meek voice say; and when I turned to look at Mal I watched as her eyes slowly opened as she awoke from her sleep. "He's my husband" she said proudly with a tired smile. I couldn't help but smile warmly back at her; I was so relieved that both she and our baby were ok. I didn't know what I would do if anything had happened to either of them; I loved both of them dearly. They were my world; and they always would be.
