Sharing too much- part 2
A guest asked for a oneshot of a sequel to Ch2376 "Sharing too much" where Snow and Emma have to stay at Granny's for the night. Red catches Emma leaving in the middle of the night. Emma plays it off, making up excuses. She had really lost her blanket and was going to find it. Snow comes downstairs and finds them. She has the blanket. Emma didn't want to be teased again.
Emma was sure she had packed it. But as she raided through her holdall, it was clear her blanket wasn't in her bag. She must have left it in the house. Emma knew the house wasn't exactly safe to be in right now. Thanks to the stray cat Neal had convinced her parents to take in rather than give to the pound, both the loft apartment and Emma's house had a flea infestation. The exterminators had been out, but the fumes meant neither house would be fit to live in for a couple of days yet. Henry was staying in his room at Regina's, and she had agreed to take in Neal as well. So it was just Emma, Snow and Charming who were staying at Granny's until the houses were ready. But Emma wasn't going to be able to sleep. Not unless she had her blanket. So she snuck downstairs as quietly as possible. She would just poof herself into her house, but there was no telling what the fumes would do to her magic. So here she was instead, ready to go out into the night. She knew it was stupid, but she couldn't help herself. But just as she was about to open the front door, the light went on.
"Emma?" Someone whispered. Emma froze. Her heart skipped a beat. She turned and saw Red staring at her, confused. "Where are you going? It's the middle of the night?"
"Uh, had a police call." Emma lied. "Need to go and deal with it now…"
"Shouldn't your dad be with you then?" Red called her out. "I remember from my time helping you out that it's against regulations to go out on a call alone- no matter what time it is." Emma knew Red had her there. Even if she left, she knew by the time she got back, everyone would be searching for an attack that wasn't happening.
"Uh…" Emma began to flounder. Just then, someone else came down the stairs.
"There you are." Snow said, relieved. Emma noticed something in her mom's hands; her blanket. "This was in my case. Must have got muddled in all the confusion. I tried to bring it to you, but you weren't in your room." Snow noticed that Emma was fully dressed. "Where are you going?" Red smiled, having put two and two together with Emma's raised heartrate (wolf hearing) and red face.
"A police call, apparently." Red said. "Although it seems she doesn't need her dad."
"If it had been a police matter, Charming would have got called as well." Snow said, confused. But then she too realised what was happening. "Ahh." She said. "You were going home to look for this, weren't you?" Emma looked down, her face scarlet.
"No." She denied. "I…I was…" Snow tossed the blanket to Emma, who caught it with fumbling fingers.
"Sure." Snow said with a knowing smile. "Well, you have your blanket now, so I guess the police call is suddenly called off?" Snow suggested. Emma stayed silent as Red giggled.
"This is why I didn't say anything." Emma admitted. "I knew you'd both find it hilarious." It might have been a few years since Red found out about Emma still needing her blanket, but the incident had stuck with Emma. Red stopped laughing, and Snow stopped smiling. They both approached Emma.
"Hey." Snow said gently, tilting Emma's chin up so she had to look at her. "We didn't know we were upsetting you. You know I don't think there's anything wrong with needing a blanket."
"I don't either." Red said, now feeling guilty. "I'm sorry if I made you think I did." Emma just shrugged, not sure what to say.
"This was the only thing your father and I could give you when you went through the wardrobe." Snow said quietly. "It means a lot to us that you still have it. If you still need it to sleep, that's always going to be ok with me." Snow assured her. Emma just nodded. Snow leaned forward and kissed Emma's forehead.
"Go on, up to bed." Snow told her. Snow then watched as Emma headed back up the stairs.
"I really am sorry if I upset her." Red said. Snow turned and smiled at her old friend.
"You didn't mean anything by it, I know that." Snow assured her. Snow truly did love that Emma still needed her blanket. It gave Snow some comfort on the times she often thought about her baby girl's lonely childhood. At least, in some way, she always had a piece of her parents with her.
