CERSEI
She sits at Joffrey's side as Grand Maester Pycell tends the marks from the beating Robert gave him with his sword belt. "I gave him milk of the poppy to help him sleep Your Grace."
"Why…why would he try to harm his sister?"
"Who knows but the gods my Queen…We have seen it before with siblings…Jealousy for what the other has. Feelings that the parents favors one over the other…Madness."
"Are you saying my son is mad?"
"No…Your Grace. It could be any of those things I mentioned."
Cersei leaves to go see Varys the Master of Whispers. "Your Grace. What may I do for you?"
"You are the Master of Whispers are you not?"
"I am."
"Hear any whispers about the Starks?"
"No My Queen…"
"I want you to watch them. Look for something I can use against them."
"As your Grace commands."
She is about to leave but stops, "One more thing Lord Varys…Find out who these spies are." He bows, then she goes to see Eddard Stark, "Leaving so soon Lord Stark! Don't you want to cause more trouble before you go?"
"I am sorry Your Grace, but Robert wanted to betroth my daughter to your son and I could not allow that. Maybe one day if he grows out of his anger issues."
"My son will grow into a great man…And become a great King…And he will have a Queen worthy of him."
He bows, "Your Highness."
"Tell your spies to leave the Red Keep Lord Stark…Because when I find them I will send them home in pieces."
"They have already left Your Grace."
Later she meets with her twin brother Jaime who is a member of the King's Guard. "You should have seen him Jaime…All smug and arrogant!" She says exaggerating. "As if his daughter is too good for my son."
"And what if Joffrey doesn't grow out of his anger issues? No Lord in the seven Kingdoms would give their daughter to him."
She looks at Jaime, "Do you think Stark knows about…"
"If he does…" Jaime shakes his head, "Ned Stark is too honorable. He would not want the children's blood on his hands. Personally I do not think he does."
"No, he knows…His spies told him about Baelish and Lysa Arryn…They may have told him about us. I have to dismiss all of my servants and the handmaidens."
"You do that, and you draw attention to yourself. Robert may start asking questions…No do nothing for now."
Cersei was not the type of person to take advise well, especially if she believes that she has a better plan. She decides to fire the servants two at a time over a long period. The ones who had been with her the longest she keeps. There was no way they were spying for Stark.
JAIME
Jaime stands guard with the King as he and Jon Arryn see Lord Eddard Stark off. Jaime had been longing to cross swords with the man who bested his mentor Ser Arthur Dayne the Sword of the Morning. Sadly he did not get the chance. When Jaime is dismissed from his duties, he goes to see his brother Tyrion.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"About what dear brother?"
"About Joffrey and the incident at Casterly Rock."
"And what would you have done? What could have you done?"
His words hit home to the problem Jaime is faced with. "Do you think Stark has or had spies in the Red Keep?"
"Hard to say…But I am leaning towards no."
"Then how else would he know about Baelish and Lysa?"
"Well there is a legend up North about Green Seers."
"What?" He sarcastically asks.
"Greenseers can see the future…Perhaps old Ned Stark is a Greenseer."
Jaime stands up, "If you're not going to be serious."
"I am serious…Read about in a book."
"Okay if he is a Greenseer why didn't he foresee things about his father and brother?"
Tyrion grunts, "Good point."
CERSEI
It is late in the evening and Cersei sits at her desk thinking to herself. If the truth came out her father would go to war, but he would stand alone. Robert would have the North, the Riverlands, and the Vale at his side. That left the crownlands, the Step Stones, the Reach and Dorne. House Martell wouldn't take either side and House Tyrell would support Robert if he took their daughter Margaery as his new wife when she came of age. Of, course if she killed Robert, Joffrey would take the throne. House Baratheon would support Joffrey and so would House Lannister. The Tyrells would support Joffrey, but only in exchange for a betrothal. It would even the odds against Stark and his allies.
No, the best thing to do is wait and watch. If Jon Arryn knew he would have done something by now. "My cousin Lancel is eleven by now and Robert doesn't have a Squire." After some words in his ear and seduction Cersei is able to convince Robert to make her cousin Lancel his Squire. When you play the Game of Thrones you play to win. And Cersei planned to win at all costs.
When news that Lancel is near sends men to meet her Uncle Kevan and cousin. "Welcome to the Capital Uncle, Cousin."
"Your Grace." Kevan says bowing. They pay their respects to the King, Kevan stays two days and leaves.
"I bought you here Cousin to Squire for the King...But remember you are a Lannister. Your loyalty is to me first and then your House."
"Yes my Queen."
With Lancel as an extra pair of eyes Cersei now has plan to rid herself of her husband and ensure the legacy of House Lannister.
