We then watched as Chad's lawyer, Mr Brandon Brice, stood up and began his defence cross examination – which lent pretty much on what he had already outlined in his opening statement.

He started questioning Chad about how he was approached by his cousin and we heard how Bobby had come to see him at Charming Castle; and the fact that this was the first time he had been out of his apartment in a long time both families thought that it had been good that he said that he was going to see Chad. Chad did stress that he was only made aware of Bobby's mental health diagnosis during the investigation after they had been captured. Chad then stressed that he had only been told that Bobby had been unwell; and when Chad had asked him about this Bobby just dismissed it so Chad didn't push him any further on this.

We then all heard that Bobby has said that he had a plan to put me and Ben in our places; what I didn't know was this conversation took place a few weeks after both me and Ben had punched Chad in the face over the space of twenty four hours. So the reasoning for Chad's involvement wasn't down to the fact that he felt 'bullied' at the time he had been annoyed with both me and Ben. We then heard how Bobby wouldn't give too many details and only asked if Chad was in – Chad then confirmed that he told him that he did want to be involved however now he can see that he should have declined the offer.

Brandon then changed his tact by starting questioning Chad about when was the point when he believed that he had made a mistake. Chad then told the court that it was actually the day before they were going to put their plan into place; when he approached Bobby and told him that he didn't want to be involved. He told him that he didn't want to hurt me or Ben and now that he had calmed down he thought against such a scheme. We then heard how Bobby then grabbed hold of Chad and rammed him into a nearby wall; Chad told us as he attempted to shove his cousin away but was unable to due to the brute strength he had used against him. Chad then went on to say that a dark look entered Bobby's eyes as he brought his face close to his and he told him that it was too late for him to back out. He stated that he had till the count of ten to make a decision that only Chad could control; and when Chad asked what this decision was Bobby smirked at it. It was at this point when Bobby told him that if Chad decided that he couldn't be involved in the scheme any more then that would be ok. However he couldn't be let to walk freely with the knowledge of what was going to ensue me and Ben the day after; so he would have to be held. We were then told that Chad was threatened in great satisfaction by Bobby by saying that everything they were intending to do to Ben they would do to Chad – as a punishment for betraying them all. So Chad told the court that he believe that he had to do as Bobby asked – as he knew what he was going to do to Ben and he didn't want it happening to him.

We were then told that Bobby got Stephen and Paul to hold Chad as he beat and kick him; and when he Bobby was finished Chad was mocked for being weak. As Chad lay bloodied and beaten on the floor he was told to use this as his warning – as apparently he wouldn't get one next time. I couldn't help but note that both Bobby and Chad's parents broke down crying at this; they obviously thought that they had brought Bobby and Chad up better than this – and their current actions were breaking their hearts.

The court then heard that this warning and threatening behaviour was enough for Chad to continue to do Bobby's bidding. However Chad had made a decision – he would help but be was going to make sure that he wasn't directly involved. I really don't know how he felt like he could do this, but by the looks of it this was the only way that Chad was able to get himself through what was already a terrifying situation for everyone involved.
