We all then watched as Kendal's lawyer, Mr Malcolm Montgomery, quickly stood up as Gareth took back to his seat. I didn't know exactly what Kendal's lawyer was about to say, what defence he was going to put together for his client; but I had a gut feeling that it was going to be similar to what Bobby's lawyer had said not so long ago.
I watched as he repeated what he had said in his opening statement - that even though Kendal had been involved in the planning he hadn't been involved in much of the actual plot. Malcolm then stressed to the court that Kendal never laid a finger on Ben, which made me laugh as I shook my head. He had done enough! Yes he may not have harmed a single hair on Ben's head but he had played a part in it - no matter what he lawyer put to the court.
Malcolm then quickly went through the photos and plans that Kendal had provided to Bobby and quickly stressed that even though it was instrumental in this plot that his client was very remorseful. Malcolm then began his questioning with this client by getting Kendal to confirm this. Kendal then stressed that he was also remorseful over what had happened between me, Ben and himself at Auradon Castle. Kendal then looked over to the camera before saying that he hoped that with time the pair of us could forgive him.
Malcolm then questioned Kendal about why he wanted to pursue me and I grimaced as I prepared to hear his answer. He said that he found me very attractive and as silly as it sounded he let himself get swept up in his obsession. He then said as an afterthought he had a lot of regrets coming from this situation; first of all he hated the fact that he had acted as he did when he was employed at Auradon Castle. He stated that he should have listened to his mother when she told him that I was in love with Ben; and that as he had been given such a good job opportunity that he shouldn't screw it up. But instead of following that advice he let himself become consumed by the obsession of getting to know me in the hopes that something could blossom between the pair of us.
He then went on to say that he regretted becoming involved in this scheme, he wished that when Bobby approached him that he just told him that he didn't want to know. Part of me wanted to believe his remorse but there was part of me that was thinking that he was only sorry because he had been caught - which deep down I knew had to be true.
The court then heard that during the police investigation Malcolm stopped the questioning of his client until he had been assessed by a doctor. When questioned by the police Malcolm advised them that Kendal was exhibiting behaviour that he felt needed to be assessed by a doctor. So the police allowed this and Malcolm had a doctor assess Kendal and he was diagnosed with bi polar. Which of course did explain why Kendal could have acted the way he did; but I still stood by what I said before - they all knew what they were doing at the time.
Ben told me that due to both Bobby and Kendal's mental health diagnosis both of their lawyers had attempted to affirm that neither of them should be made to stand trial due to their 'mental vulnerabilities'. So as a counter proposal the state suggested that two doctors would assess both Bobby and Kendal to see whether they could stand trial; and me and Ben both heard that both lawyers weren't happy with the fact that the four doctors deemed that their lawyers were fit to stand trial. I knew that they probably didn't want them to stand trial; surely all of the lawyers knew that they were probably fighting a losing case - given the amount of evidence that was against them.
"I think that this is a good time to stop-" Chief Justice Williams began after Kendal's lawyer sat down. "We have already covered so much today" he continued as he looked around the courtroom. "I adjourn this court," he declared. "And we will recommence at nine o'clock tomorrow morning," he added. "Thank you" he smiled; and we all watched as he hit his gavel on the small wooden platform to signify the ending of our first day in this trial - which made me sigh in relief. One day down and Lucifer only knows how many more days to go.
