It turned out that Sirius could do a lot of damage at 3AM. By the time I woke up and groggily made it downstairs, the entire castle was talking about the "Black Brother Blowout". As a gossiping third year girl told me, Sirius had stumbled down to the dungeons after leaving the common room last night. He'd set up camp outside the Slytherin common room, and had set off Filibuster Fireworks to wake up the entire house. The seventh year prefect had come outside to see what was happening, and Sirius had demanded that Regulus come outside and confront him. He had then set off several dungbombs, and threatened to dungbomb the entire house in the morning if Regulus wasn't outside in five minutes.
Regulus was pushed out of the common room seconds later, and Sirius had wasted no time in hexing him to high hell. Regulus hadn't taken that standing down, and had returned fire in kind. Both Regulus and Sirius ended up in the hospital wing. I made my way down to visit Sirius first thing after hearing the story, basically running the whole way there. The brothers were sitting on opposite ends of the hospital wing, with dividers put up between them so they couldn't interact. Sirius was closest to the door, while Regulus was on the far side.
Sirius was sitting up in bed when I walked in; his face was covered in welts and his lip was busted open. As I walked past him, I hissed "I'll deal with you in a minute." I walked over towards Regulus, peaking around the divider.
"How are you doing?" I asked him. He jumped at the sound of my voice; he had been lying on his side facing the wall. He turned over to look at me over his shoulder. His face was even more beat up than Sirius's. "I want to apologize for Sirius's actions. He was angry with me, and he took it out on you. That's not okay with me, and I apologize for my part in this."
Regulus was quiet for a moment. He considered my words, before rolling over onto his back and sitting up with a wince. "You may be the stupidest lion of them all, telling my brother that you spoke to me," He said in a gravelly voice. "But I admire the fire. Don't ever tell anyone I said that because I will deny it. You're good for my brother, and if he doesn't see it, he's an even bigger idiot than I thought he was."
I didn't know what to say to that, so I nodded my thanks. With one last look at him, I turned and made my way to deal with Sirius. As I neared Sirius's bed, my stride became more urgent and less fluid. It would probably be better described as stomping, but I was angry and didn't particularly care. I stepped around his curtain, and sat in the chair that was placed next to his bed. Sirius was grinning a lopsided grin at me. I glared at him with as much heat as I could muster, but softened slightly when I realized how beat up he truly was. His lip had opened and started bleeding again when he smiled, and one of his eyes was black and blue. The rest of his face was covered in big, red welts that were swelling more and more with each minute. It didn't even look like Madame Pomfrey had treated him last night, although I knew she must have.
"Howdy, kitten," Sirius said hesitantly, his grin still wide on his face. I looked into his eyes sharply, the fire reigning with his words. I cast a silencing charm, so that Regulus wouldn't be able to hear us. His grin slowly slid off his face as he realized that I was pissed. "Oh boy. You're mad?"
"How dare you. How dare you make a spectacle out of yourself, disrupt an entire house in the middle of the night, and beat the shit out of your brother? Your brother! Who did nothing but help me!" I exploded, hitting him on the shoulder. He winced and grabbed his shoulder.
"Easy, kitten! I'm a bruised peach," He said angrily, pulling down his t-shirt and revealing a severely bruised shoulder.
"You deserve it for starting a fight, drunk out of your mind, with your brother," I winced, feeling slightly guilty that I had hurt him.
"Well, I wouldn't have had to if my girlfriend didn't go rogue," He argued, his grey eyes steely as he glared at me. He sat up further, leaning towards me. "You realize you could have been hurt, right? That Regulus could have been with Snape or Mulciber or Avery? That even if you got him alone, they could have been around the corner? That they would have loved to hurt you to hurt me?"
"But I wasn't!" I snapped back, my guilt assuaged. "I don't know why you refuse to speak to him. For a Slytherin, I'd actually describe him as nice."
"Because he didn't need anything from you!" Sirius shouted, his sudden volume a shock in the quiet hospital wing. It clearly went straight through my silencing charm, as Madame Pomfrey came running out of her office with a stern look on her face. "What in the world is going on out here?" She asked, her hands on her hips. I quickly took down the silencing charm subtly, so that we could answer her.
"I'm sorry, Madame Pomfrey. Just a small disagreement; I promise to keep it down," Sirius apologized through his teeth, still glaring at me. He took several deep breaths, trying to calm himself down. Madame Pomfrey gave us a searching look, and a perfunctory nod, before turning back into her office.
Sirius waited a moment after she had returned to her office, and after a pointed look at my wand, I recast the charm. "Look, my brother is as kind as the Fat Friar, until he needs something from you that you don't want to give him. And now that he helped you, you better believe that he is going to be calling in that favor. And if you don't comply, you'll see how much of a snake he truly is," He said in a softer tone, grabbing my hand. I reluctantly let him, and felt as he started rubbing circles on the back of it with his thumb.
"I just wanted you to have something from your family, and I thought that having the support of your uncle would mean a lot to you. I bought you a watch in Hogsmeade and then I guess on a whim I thought I would ask Regulus if someone in your family would send you one. It's more traditional than getting a new one, and I just wanted to make your birthday special, especially our first as a couple. I wasn't thinking," I rambled, trying to explain my though process to him in a way that would make sense. Sometimes it felt like I had no idea what I was doing, or why I was doing the things I did. Trying to explain it to someone else felt like a fool's errand, but he deserved an explanation.
"Baby, I love that you went through all of the trouble to get this watch for me," he said earnestly, squeezing my hand tight. "It was so thoughtful, and kind, and downright fearless. But I can't have you putting yourself in danger with my family, or the Slytherins, for me. I couldn't live with myself if something happened to you. They already target me because I escaped; if things were the way they were supposed to be, I would be the leader of the Slytherins. My best friends would be death eaters, not blood traitors. My girlfriend would be a snake, not a lion. And I need you to promise me that you won't do something reckless like this again."
"I don't know if I can promise that. Sirius, the Slytherins target all of us. James and I are blood traitors, Remus is a…you know, Peter is a coward, and Lily and Mary are mudbloods. I know that you feel like they target you more because of who your family is, but the truth is that they would target us with or without you," I speculated, not quite looking Sirius in the eyes. I knew I couldn't promise Sirius that I would do what he wanted. I was reckless sometimes and acted before I thought; I couldn't promise him that I would be able to control that part of myself. I had promised him that I would always tell him what I was thinking, even if I knew he wouldn't like it. Sirius seemed to remember our promises to each other the day we admitted our feelings, because he nodded like he had known what I was going to say before I said anything.
"I guess I knew that you were going to say something like that. I did promise you that I would control my temper, and I didn't do that. I was reckless and impulsive, and I yelled at you. I'm sorry for that," He said quietly, looking down at our joined hands. I brought my other hand to rest on top of his.
"It's not your job to keep me safe, love. I know you promised me you would try, but you are going to fail sometimes. Especially with the world the way it is right now, things are only going to get more dangerous out there, and I need you to trust that I can take care of myself. If you can't trust that, you are going to get yourself hurt by constantly looking over your shoulder trying to save me," I scooted closer to him, practically climbing onto the edge of his hospital bed. "Just like you couldn't stand if I got hurt because of you, I couldn't stand it if you got hurt because you were too busy looking out for me to look out for yourself."
"How about a new promise?" Sirius asked, pulling me all the way onto the bed with him. I squealed, but relaxed into his embrace with my head gently leaning on his chest.
"And what would that be?" I asked playfully. Sirius dropped a kiss on the top of my head, and wrapped his arm firmly around my shoulders.
"How about instead of one of us trying to keep the other safe and it being some twisted competition, we promise to always have each other's backs. Through hell and high water, we will take care of each other," He propositioned sweetly, leaning his chin on the top of my head.
"I love that. Just like aurors, we'll be each other's partners and always look out for each other," I said, looking up at him. He leaned down and kissed me chastely on the lips.
"I'm sorry, kitten. I told you I was going to be bad at this boyfriend thing," He whispered, head still bent from his kiss.
"And I promised to overlook your darker tendencies. Which I obviously do, because I'm laying in bed with you…" I said mischievously, leaning up to kiss him again. I deepened the kiss, throwing my leg over his, and entwining our bodies.
Sirius pulled back after a second, and I pouted mockingly. He looked at me with such a soft look in his eyes, that I started getting self-conscious. I brought a hand up to my face, checking to see if I had something on my face or hair had gotten in my eyes. He grabbed my hand and pulled it down. "It is just crazy how you can go from crazy beautiful while yelling at me, to playful and sexy, to fucking adorable within a span of five minutes," He said, in a voice that I would almost consider reverent. "You drive me absolutely crazy, Addison."
His voice had deepened, as his eyes changed color, turning almost black under the intensity of his gaze. He leaned back down and kissed me again, but this time he was rough and demanding, like he couldn't get enough of me. His hand started drifting down my back, and he pulled back briefly to make sure I was okay with it; I nodded, my mouth open and breathless. He leaned back in; his hand drifted down and cupped my arse, then moved around and drifted up my thigh. His hand stopped, his fingertips just playing with the edge of my skirt. I pulled myself closer to him, basically laying on top of him, and started kissing down his neck. I found his pulse point, and noticed that he moaned more fervently, so I paid particular attention to it. When I pulled back, I realized I had left a love bite behind, but I couldn't be bothered to care.
As I had been considering his neck, Sirius had angled his head up and was kissing down my neck. I felt my eyes flutter closes, enjoying the feeling of his lips movin toward my chest. Sirius stopped at the top of my shirt, and I could tell that he wanted to rip it off.
"Not that," I kissed his neck. "I'm not enjoying this," I said, placing another open-mouthed kiss on his neck. "But, we are in the hospital wing," I reminded him, kissing his lips like the period at the end of a sentence. He brought a hand up to his lips with a wince, as if he was remembering for the first time that it was split open.
"And how exactly did you manage to turn this fight into a snog? You sneaky witch," He laughed, winking at me.
"And how did you manage to get me to snog you, with your face looking like that," I joked back, sticking my tongue out at him.
"You be careful, or I'll have you put that tongue to a better use," He said, his eyes darkening again. I blushed at his innuendo, but realized that it didn't scare me. I did want to keep going with him, and if we weren't in the hospital wing…I would have.
"So when is Madame Pomfrey releasing you? Are you going to be in class today?" I asked, realizing I never even asked how he was feeling.
"Should be good to go. All she did was give us some pain potion. She told us that if we were immature enough to resort to sibling squabbles, we'd have to heal naturally," He said, rolling his eyes. I dropped the silencing charm that I had cast, thankful that Madame Pomfrey hadn't caught us fooling around in a hospital bed. I could only imagine the screaming we'd have had to endure, plus the added embarrassment that Sirius's brother was in the same room as us. To be safe, I slid out of bed back into the chair.
As I was contemplating our good fortune, the door to Madame Pomfrey's office opened. She came bustling out, two charts in her hands. Just in time to not catch me in Sirius's bed.
"Alright boys. You are both free to leave. No more fighting, or next time I won't even administer pain potion. You two are brothers; act like it!" She snapped, consulting the chart on top and closing it with finality. With a fleeting look at the room, she turned around and hurried back into her office just as quickly as she had left. I looked between Sirius and the curtain that Regulus was hidden behind. It was so silent, that I could hear the students two floors below us heading to breakfast. After a tense minute, it appeared that Regulus was waiting for us to leave before getting out of bed. I pulled out a set of robes that I had asked James to bring down for me, and handed them to Sirius.
"You get dressed. I'll wait outside and we can walk down to breakfast together," I cleared my throat, finally rolling off of him. I waited for Sirius to make some comment about me watching him change, but he didn't; I kissed his cheek and pulled the curtain all the way around Sirius's bed so he could change in privacy. A few minutes later, he emerged in the fresh set of robes. As usual, his tie was undone and he looked like he belonged on the cover of Witch Weekly…welts and all.
November 6th, 1976
The drama of the Black brothers lasted through the end of the week. Luckily, Saturday was the first match of the season, and the gossip over what had instigated the fight between the brothers was quickly replaced by betting on the outcome of the match.
I was sitting at the Gryffindor table, trying to block out the cheerful chatter of my classmates, who were excitedly talking about the upcoming match. My stomach was doing somersaults and I picked up a piece of toast. I nibbled on it, knowing that I should eat something. James was sitting next to me, with the rest of the team surrounding us. Sirius was sitting on the edges of our little bubble, on James's orders. ("I can't have you distracting her with your masculine charm! She needs to be focused on winning the game, not her boyfriend.")
Part of me knew that James was right, and part of my wanted nothing more than to hold Sirius's hand. I snuck a peak at him; the welts had faded almost completely, and his lip had healed nicely. The benefits of magic, and the bruise cream that I had found in the bottom of my trunk and reluctantly given him. He noticed me looking, and sent a wink my way, but put his finger to his lips to remind me that we were supposed to be ignoring each other. I giggled slightly, but the nudge that James gave me let me know that I had given myself away.
"Sorry, James," I said meekly, taking a bigger bite out of the toast I was holding. James nodded his approval, and turned back to the playbook that he had open in front of him. At exactly 10:47AM, James herded the team out of the Great Hall and down towards the pitch.
It was a beautiful day. The skies were blue, but with slight cloud coverage. The clouds would provide some relief to Mary, so she could search for the snitch without the sun in her eyes. There was very little wind, which meant there wouldn't be an advantage or disadvantage flying one way over the other. It was early November, and it was just starting to get chilly. We would heat up while flying, but wouldn't overheat in the baking sun. I couldn't have asked for better conditions for my first official match. Even so, as the pitch came in to view, my breath caught and I stopped dead. The team walked around me, still marching towards the pitch, but as Sirius passed me he hooked his pinky around my pinky, and urged me forward with him.
"You are going to kick arse, kitten," He assured me, quietly so that James wouldn't hear. Feeling my nerves melt away with just that one simple sentence, I walked with confidence the rest of the way towards the changing room.
We changed into our maroon and gold kits and gathered around James for our pre-game huddle. James was pacing back and forth in the front of the room, with a board behind him. The X's that represented us were moving across the board, showing mock-ups of our plays in action.
"Alright, team. Settle down," James said suddenly, waiting for the chatter to die out before continuing. "This is it. The day which we have been busting our arses for over the past month and a half. The day that will determine if the Gryffindor Quidditch team has what it takes to win the House cup. We have to give it our all out there! Black! Peakes! You two have only gotten stronger since last year. Keep your eyes on the bludgers at all times, and aim well. Mary – you've never lost us a match yet, and you got quicker over the summer. Try to let us get a good lead before catching the snitch, if you can. Brown – you were a welcome addition to the team! Remember that you like to hover left, but know that the Hufflepuffs may not be clever enough to realize that. Addison and Kelly – remember to keep your elbows in, and remember all of the plays we've perfected. We need to move like we have one brain between the three of us, and we need to be so in-sync that we know each other's next move before it happens."
"Hands in!" Kelly Farrow yelled, her eyes shining with pride. As a seventh year, this was her last first match and the emotions were obviously getting to her. We all put our hands in, and she started our team chant. "We are lions, hear us ROAR!" We all joined in and shouted roar with her, and then repeated it twice more all together. We all whooped and cheered, patting each other on the back and getting into our line to be announced onto the field. I heard the announcer, a second year Gryffindor, start to announce our names and positions. When it was my turn, I mounted my broom and waited to kick off.
"And rounding out our trio of chasers, ADDISON JONES."
James and Sirius had both told me that they had blacked out their first match, but I hadn't really believed them. As I sat in the common room amid a roaring party celebrating a crushing Gryffindor victory, I finally began to understand what they meant. I couldn't remember anything past being announced; the next thing I remember is being lifted into Sirius's arms and spun around, with the announcer in the background screaming that Gryffindor had won 320-60. According to James, I had scored 10 of the 17 goals, but I couldn't remember a single shot on goal.
I sat in the common room, on the nice couch, with my face hurting from smiling so much. My friends surrounded me, drinking butterbeers, and recounting the match. It felt like someone was explaining a match they had seen on TV to me, since every play seemed brand new to me. All I remembered was the feeling of the wind in my face; the freedom that I had felt to finally be playing the game that I loved was unmatched. As my head started to feel fuzzy as I drank butterbeer after butterbeer, I found myself getting closer and closer to Sirius. He had wrapped his arm around my waist, and was drawing lazy circles on my hip.
Unlike the party last year with Jase, as I started to get drunk I didn't begin to feel out of control. Instead, I started to feel complete, like all of the pieces were starting to fall together. Sirius's touch didn't make me panic; in fact, every place that he grazed was burning with desire for his touch to return. I finally felt as though I was exactly where I needed to be, and that I was with someone that I was meant to be with. I had already decided that I was going to do this, practically from the first second we had admitted our feelings to each other. But this moment felt so perfect, and I felt so confident and sure of myself, that I knew I had to make a move and complete this perfect night.
James was recounting how Mary had caught the snitch and everyone was enraptured, so I leaned up and whispered brazenly in Sirius's ear, "How about you take me upstairs and unwrap your real birthday present?" Sirius swallowed thickly, and looked down at me with pure awe in his eyes. He wasted no time in grinning, grabbing my hand, and hastily pulling me up. None of our friends even moved, too focused on James and unable to process their surroundings because of the alcohol. Giggling, the two of us ran up the staircase to the boy's dormitory. After slamming the door closed behind him, and locking it with a locking charm, Sirius turned and started towards me in an almost predatory way.
His gaze was burning me, as he looked me up and down. I was wearing jeans and that same leather jacket from the night of Lily and James's party. He came up close to me and growled as his hands moved up and down my back, feeling the leather that was sculpted to my body.
"I told you once that leather looked good on you…but I bet it's going to look even better on the floor," Sirius said in a low voice, as he slid the jacket off one shoulder. All that was beneath the jacket was the thin strap of my white lacey camisole, and he kissed the hollow of my neck that was now exposed. The hand that had slipped the jacket down slid to the back of my neck and pulled me towards him in a crushing kiss. His other hand snuck under the other side of the jacket, and up my back. All that stood between him and the bare skin of my back was the thin material of the camisole. I shivered as the heat of his hand electrified the skin on my back, making me wish that there were nothing between us. I pulled my arm the rest of the way out of the jacket, and shrugged the other side off my shoulder so that the jacket fell down to the floor. Sirius took one look at the leather pooled on the ground, and came back to kiss me with an intensity that I had never felt before. It felt clear to me that he had been holding back on me in every kiss before now.
I slid my hands underneath Sirius's plain white t-shirt, feeling the hard contours of his abs. I felt my breath quicken as I touched his bare skin for the first time and I took my time in exploring every crevice of his stomach. Sirius looked me in the eyes, asking me permission with his pointed look to take off his shirt. I nodded at him slowly, my breath escaping in a gasp as he reached behind his head and pulled his shirt off. I knew that Sirius was beautiful, but I hadn't expected him to be as sculpted as he was. His perfect olive skin glowed in the soft moonlight that was coming in through the windows behind us. His strong chest tapered down into hard abs – my eyes followed a line of dark hair down his abs to the delicious V that disappeared beneath his jeans. His strong arms, that just moments ago were wrapped around me, showed that all of his hard work this summer had paid off.
"You are…beautiful," I whispered, leaning in to trace that line of hair down to the top of his jeans. Sirius pulled me towards him and kissed down my neck and shoulder, his strong arms wrapped around my waist. I could feel the evidence of how turned on he was; and I marveled that I was able to have this effect on a man like Sirius. I took my hand and put it on him, on top of his jeans, and Sirius breathed in deeply.
"Addison, I need to make sure. I need to make sure that you want to do this," He asked in a voice filled with need and heat. He had his eyes closed, and his forehead against my forehead.
"Sirius, love, look at me." I begged. He opened his eyes, and the sight of his grey eyes laden with desire, respect, and trust made me more sure of my decision than I had been even a minute ago. "I want this. I didn't get a choice my first time. I want this to be the first time that I choose. I want you to be my real first, the one that matters."
With those words, Sirius kissed me gently and lovingly. As our kiss began to reignite the passion that had stalled with Sirius's question, he pushed the thin straps of my camisole off my shoulders. I pulled the fabric over my head, and pushed my chest up to Sirius's. The feeling of bare skin against bare skin was indescribable. Sirius turned us, so that my back was against his bed, and walked me slowly backwards until my knees buckled. He crawled down on top of me, as I slid up towards his pillow. As he settled on top of me, and started to kiss down my chest, I undid the zipper of his jeans and pulled them off of him. He finished the job and did the same for me. We sat there, both of us just in our underwear, wishing the offending fabric wasn't halting our exploration. Not wanting him to ask me again if I was sure, I pulled my red lace panties off and threw them onto the floor next to my jacket. Sirius kissed down my stomach, and settled near my thighs.
"Mmm, Sirius," I groaned against the feeling of him. I started to feel a sensation in my belly that I had never felt before. It was building and building towards a high peak.
"Let go, kitten," He murmured against me. At his words I came undone and released all of the tension that had built in my body. I pulled him up and kissed him, tasting myself on him.
"I need you, now," I begged him, pulling his boxers off with my feet, which were wrapped completely around his waist. He complied immediately, and with one lingering kiss, he rested his forehead on mine and we were one. I moaned at the feeling of fullness, and encouraged him to move by tilting my hips. He started moving slowly, but with each of my moans he started to move quicker and quicker. As I felt myself heading towards that peak again, I gripped tightly and moaned his name into his ear. Sirius growled, fueled by the sound of his name coming off of my lips; as I relaxed around him, he moved forward one more time and collapsed on my body with a groan of release.
We lay like that for a moment, wrapped in each other's sweaty bodies. The pure bliss that my deliciously sore body felt, with Sirius's weight crushing me, was completely indescribable. I felt beautiful, and strong, and loved. And for the first time, I knew that I had never loved Jase. I may have told him that I had, but looking up at Sirius above me, I knew that I had never felt even half as strongly for Jase as I already did for Sirius. Maybe I didn't love him yet, but I knew that I was right on the verge of falling.
Sirius stirred after a moment, and kissed me again. He reached down to the floor and found his jeans. He fished his wand out of the pocket and cast a contraceptive charm. He got up, looking upset that he had to untangle his body from mine. He rummaged in his trunk for a moment and threw me some clothes. I caught them and sat up in bed. He had thrown me a pair of boxers and one of his Quidditch kits. I quickly pulled them on, and once he had confirmed that I was decent, he unlocked the door. Relieved that none of the boys were waiting outside of the door to storm in, I sighed and burrowed deeper into Sirius's sheets. Sirius was still standing, looking at me with a strange look on his face.
"Oh, I'm sorry. Am I supposed to leave now?" I asked, embarrassed that I was overstaying my welcome. Maybe he had given me clothes so I could walk back to my own dorm?
"What?" He asked, shocked. "Of course not!"
"Why are you looking at me like that?" I asked, with a nervous chuckle.
"I'm admiring the fact that you are the most beautiful creature I have ever seen, and that you are in my bed after letting me ravish you," He said sincerely, the heat creeping back into his voice. His tone reignited the fire in my belly, and I smiled at him seductively.
"Well, how about you get back into bed with me, and let's see if you can't convince me to let you "ravish" me again," I said cheekily. Sirius flicked his wand, locking the door again, and made his way quickly back into bed.
He kissed me again, his hands sliding the boxers off of me that I had just put on. I made to pull the shirt off too, but he simply said, "I told you my name would look better on you." And so we left it on.
