Sokka paced around the kitchen table. "You swear you haven't seen her since this morning?"

"I swear on my arrow I have not seen her since she left for detention, she did not say anything to me about where she would go afterwards, and I have absolutely no idea where she is or would be right now. Are we done here? I have homework to do."

Sokka scoffed. "Homework. You're not even a real student there."

"Maybe, but I'll still get reprimanded if I don't complete my workbook assignment."

"It's almost ten-thirty! Where is she?! If she's gotten herself into trouble again I swear to the moon I will kick you out on your ass!"

"Me?! Why would you kick me out, I have nothing to do with it?"

"Maybe not directly, but she's been acting all kinds of weird since you got here and I don't like it. I hate the fire nation but I love my sister more. There's no point in putting up a fight if it means she or Gran Gran is in danger, and spirits know we're already in danger because of her freakish water-powers."

Sokka went back to his pacing as Aang took out his workbook and started reading the questions. The house phone rang urgently and Sokka went to answer it. "Hello?"

Katara spoke over the phone. "Sokka? It's Katara. Listen is Aang with you?"

"Katara! Where are you? Do you know what time it is? Get yourself back home this instant!"

Aang listened to Sokka's end of the conversation from the kitchen. "Forget all that. I want you and Aang to go somewhere right now, but you have to swear on your life you won't tell anyone."

"What is it now?"

"I've found something amazing, Sokka. It's our chance, to help Aang defeat the fire nation!"

Sokka laughed. "Aang defeat the fire nation? He's a kid! A no good worthless kid who I'm going to put on the street if you don't come home right now!"

The siblings were silent for a moment, then Katara spoke. "I'll tell Yue you're a moron with a high voice who's never kissed a girl and I'll tell her all about your 'instinct'."

Sokka was incredibly confused as to why Katara's directions had led them to an abandoned warehouse. Aang stuck his head out the car window and looked the place up and down. "Where are we?"

"The East Side. This is where they put the old and crippled and kids with no one to take care of them. Poor unlucky bastards. The housing is practically slums. Lots of places like this have been abandoned, but why the hell did Katara drag us out here?"

Sokka got out of his car and went to the wire fence. He shook the door a bit to see if the lock would budge, he tried kicking it down and fell on his back screaming over his throbbing toe. Jet walked urgently from the warehouse to the gate with a small group behind. "Would you shut up?!" He faced Sokka and Aang with the fence between them.

Katara came forward. "Jet, this is my brother Sokka, and that's …"

Jet finished her sentence for her. "The avatar."

Sokka and Aang looked puzzled and alarmed. Jet looked at them suspiciously and Katara had a nervous smile. "Sorry, Aang. But it's okay, we can trust Jet."

Sokka's face grew red and he started to yell. "TRUST HIM?" The group on the other side of the fence all shushed him and looked around nervously. Sokka repeated in a whisper. "Trust him?"Katara nodded. "Do you even realize who this guy is? He's the biggest trouble maker in the city! The fire nation suspects him, they suspect all his friends, if you let him borrow your pen once or say 'hi' to him in the hallway, they suspect you!"

The straw in Jet's mouth moved up and down as he talked. "I'm not afraid of them, and neither is Katara."

Sokka looked at his sister. "Katara?"

Katara breathed in, "I'm with Jet."

Tension grew as a moment of silence followed. Aang faked a cough. "So, why are we here again?"

Aang loved the Hideout. In five minutes he was swinging on the cable cord, using airbending make himself go higher and faster, like a giant swing. When he came down, jabbering about how cool the place was, teens crowded around him to ask him questions.

"Why is there an arrow on your head?"

"Can you really bend all four elements?"

"I thought the avatar was dead?"

Aang tried to answer their questions while Sokka walked around the Hideout, looking for the reason he felt so uneasy. It wasn't just Jet's reputation or the fear of the fire nation that made Sokka nervous, there was something else. He had always gotten a bad feeling about Jet, even just standing next to him during freshman orientation before he even knew Jet's name. There was something Sokka didn't like about Jet, a bad feeling.

He saw Katara and Jet talking on the other side of the room. He wanted to go over there and get Katara away from Jet, but he didn't. After a while, the four of them and some people Sokka didn't know all gathered on the main platform in a circle.

"Aang, Sokka, I'm Jet and these are my Freedom Fighters. Someday we're going to free the colony from fire nation tyranny, but we are always in need of more help." Jet looked at Katara and Aang. "Especially from skilled benders."

Katara spoke. "Aang's great, he's the avatar." She blushed. "I could use some more training."

"So I might know a way you and Aang can help in our struggle."

Sokka crossed his arms. "Unfortunately we have to leave tonight." He grabbed Katara's arm and took a step out of the circle.

"Sokka, you're kidding me! I needed you on an important mission tomorrow!"

Sokka turned back around to look at Jet. "What mission?"
