* I don't own these characters just a fan wanting to tell a story**

"What are you doing here?" Jamie questioned, after a few moments of shocked silence.

Sydney stared at him with shock written on her face.

"What are you doing here?" She demanded, looking as shocked as Jamie felt.

"I live here. This is my apartment." Jamie explained.

Sydney stared at him for two seconds. "Oh, I just wanted to drop off a card for a really good therapist just in case Eddie wanted to see one. I know she's been through a lot and I wanted to offer it as a sorry for making her go through everything on the stand today. I didn't realize you two lived together." Sydney stumbled out.

"She's in the shower right now but I can give it to her for you." Jamie stated.

"Thanks." Sydney said, handing over the business card.

"I'll let her know you stopped by." Jamie answered.

"Thanks." Sydney turned to go, as Jamie started to go. When she whirled around suddenly.

"Hey! I know this sounds weird, but do you maybe wanna grab a coffee sometime and catch up. We kinda separated on bad terms and I'd love to hear what you've done in the past six years." Sydney rushed out.

"Um." Jamie paused.

"Sorry, that was out of the blue. Here," She dug through her purse. "I'll be out in town for the next couple of weeks, think about it, give me a call if you want and we can meet up." She said, offering her own business card this time.

Jamie took it, reluctantly.

"Bye." and Sydney practically ran.

Jamie closed the door and just stared at the empty space for a few seconds. What the Hell had just happened? Was that the first time he had seen her in seven years?

"Well, that was interesting to watch." Eddie said, from the hallway.

"God! Eddie, don't startle me like that!" Jamie cried whirling around. "How long have you been standing there?"

"Since 'Do you wanna grab a coffee'," Eddie answered, walking into the kitchen wearing his shirt and sweatpants.

"Here, she came to drop this off. A business card for a therapist, she wanted it used as kind of a peace offering I think." Jamie explained, handing it over to Eddie.

"Dr. Teddy Orlan." Eddie read out loud. "Sunshine Center. Find your true self. Does not sound like a place I would like to go." She set the card on the table.

A knock came at the door.

"Now that should be the pizza." Jamie commented turning back to the door.

This knock did turn out to be the pizza.

Eddie grabbed the plates as Jamie sat the pizza on the coffee table next to the couch.

"So, are you gonna go out for coffee with her?" Eddie asked.

"What?" Jamie looked at Eddie in confusion.

"With Sydney? 'Catch up because you guys separated on bad terms'." Eddie replied, taking her seat on the couch beside him.

"I hadn't thought about it, but I wasn't planning on it. I don't really care. She walked out of my life, that was her choice. I have my own life now and she has her own life. I just don't really see the point." Jamie replied.

"I think you should. I mean, she was your friend right. For God's sake you were engaged, don't you want to see what she did with her life?"

"Not really"

"Really? I would be dying to know if we broke up what you would be up to six years later." Eddie said, taking a bit of her pizza.

"But that's different. Syd and I had a very different relationship than what you and I have." Jamie responded.

"What do you mean?"

"Syd and I started dating junior year of college and were kinda off and on until we graduated, broke up that summer, and only started seriously dating when we went to the same law school. Even then I didn't propose until the last year of law school just over a year later. I didn't know I loved her until a couple of months before I proposed. With you, I knew just after our first kiss." Jamie explained.

"So you really don't want to know if you missed out on anything?" Eddie asked.

"If I had stayed with her, I never could have been with you. I don't have any regrets, I think my only regret is staying with her so long. I should have broken it off with her long before she did. It never would have worked since she didn't work well with the family. She never understood the cop stuff. She was more of just a really good friend than a girlfriend, fiance." Jamie confessed.

"Then go out to coffee with her, treat it as meeting a friend you haven't seen for a while." Eddie suggested.

"Is this some test for you to see how much I love you, to see if I'll have coffee with an ex?" Jamie questioned.

"No! I promise it's not! I just have an ex or two that if I ran into, I would want to have coffee with and catch up. She's only gonna be in town for a couple of weeks and I just want to make sure you wouldn't regret it."

"Wait, should I be jealous of these ex's!"

"No!" Eddie laughed. "Just some of them were good friends and we went through a lot together but it just didn't work out romantically. Just think about it for me?"

"Okay, I'll do that." Jamie promised.

"God. I'm so tired." Eddie sighed with a big yawn as she rested her head on his shoulder.

"Well, then maybe you should go to bed."

"But I can't sleep if you aren't with me." Eddie whined.

"How about I come to bed, but I am going to stay up and read." Jamie bargained.

"Deal."

They nestled in bed Eddie's head pillowed on Jamie's shoulder.

"What are you reading?" Eddie asked, stifling another yawn.

"Just one of my old law books about how the American Justice system came into existence," Jamie explained.

"Sounds like it's boring enough to put me to sleep. Want to read it out loud?"

And that's how Eddie fell asleep listening to Jamie read the book out loud. Jamie on the other hand, he lay awake for hours. He hadn't mentioned it to Eddie, tomorrow was going to be his next physical assessment, and he was scared that the choice to go back to being a cop was about to be taken away. The right to choose which path he took, but it also felt like maybe that would be the best way to decide. If his arm had progressed enough, then he would be able to go back to being a cop…but if it hadn't...that may no longer be an option.
