A/N: Lots of dame-Tsuna last chapter haahaha I feel like I need some boss Tsuna in this chapter. By the way, this occurred to me but since this is a series of one-shots that is only partly related to the prequel, I figure some of you could tell me in the reviews some scenarios you'd want the two of them to be in. If not I'll just go with what I think of. :D :D
"and what do you propose?"
There were moments when Gokudera really felt the fragility of peace in the mafia world. There was no telling what would happen tomorrow, or the day after, or a week. Alliances could be made, alliances could be broken. Agreements could be betrayed, compromise could be met. Power could be lingering in the dark, just waiting for the right time to pounce.
Today, seemed to be one of those bad days. As the right-hand he followed Vongola Tenth to any business meeting he had. A smaller famiglia requested an audience with Tsuna himself, so there they were in the conference room, just Tsuna and him, with a group of 5 other men sitting comfortable in the chairs. They seemed to be headed by a man named Schumac. A rather aged man, his beard neatly trimmed and spectacles making him look like he was highly intellectual.
Foreigners. Gokudera slightly shook his head. They were harder to deal with, not just because of the language barrier but because of the difference in culture. Luckily, this man seemed to have lived in Japan for quite a while, and spoke fluently.
"An investigation!" Schumac beamed happily, evidently tickled by his own idea. "It could be revolutionary! The start of immortal life for all humans! We just need a blood sample, run some tests on her, perhaps it has something to do with her DNA, we would need to extract that as well and-!"
Vongola tenth stood up, eyes keeping steady on the man who spoke. Gokudera followed suit and stood as well. One step ahead of his boss, he walked over to the door and opened it, waiting for him to exit.
"…I don't know where you got that information but we don't have such a person in here. The rumors are false. That and," Tsuna stepped away from his chair, eyes still on the man "I'd advise you not to approach my family again." He pulled on his tie a little, straightening it before stalking over to the door, stopping only momentarily.
"Lambo will escort you to the exit." and with that, he didn't spare the man another glance. Tsuna stalked away with Gokudera right behind him. Vongola tenth didn't even need to turn around before telling Gokudera, "Follow them, take Yamamoto with you."
Gokudera nodded and parted ways with the tenth immediately, going off on his own to get Yamamoto for their recon mission.
Tsuna on the other hand, put his phone up to his hear after hitting #1 on his speed dial.
"Tsuna? Done with the meeting? That was pretty fast."
Satsuki was leisurely skimming through magazines in Haru's room. Flicking through the pages of fashion articles and product placements.
"Where are you?"
Satsuki closed the magazine shut signalling to Haru and Kyoko that she needed to go, the two girls waved her off with a small smile. They'd spent enough time together today.
"Just about to leave Haru's room," she replied, feeling the sense of urgency in his voice. She could hear footsteps rounding the hall corner and she put her phone down when she saw the familiar tuft of brown approaching.
Tsuna hit 'end call' as he rounded the corner, seeing Satsuki in sight. She was walking towards him as well, blank expression on her face. "What's wrong?"
She asked when they reached each other. Tsuna didn't immediately answer. He wondered if it was even worth telling her "…Nothing. Just a tough meeting." He said, cracking a small smile. Satsuki raised an eyebrow at him and looked at him suspiciously, letting him know that she wasn't buying it. She let it go for now though, pushing him wouldn't do any good for the both of them. Tsuna gave his signature nervous laugh.
"And you? How was your day?" Tsuna affectionately tugs her by the hand, prompting her to walk with him.
Her hand very naturally settles in his as she follow his lead. "Me and the girls decided we would go shopping tomorrow," Satsuki was always very wary about going out. It stressed her out because she was leaving the family behind, one would never know when an attack might occur. These days, she had put her trust in the Vongola more. They were old enough –and strong enough—to take care of themselves.
Tsuna visibly sighed and threw her a sideways smile, "Sorry I haven't been out with you in a while, I promise I'll finish up everything and take you somewhere nice,"
The reliable and sincere side of him was quite dashing. Even back then, when he promised something he would always see it through. How could she be upset at that? "I'll look forward to it then,"
Their peace is interrupted with a shrill phone ring, Tsuna manoeuvres his other hand to fish out the phone in his pocket and puts it up to his ear, all before it even rang a second time. He keeps walking with Satsuki just to keep the normalcy of it all, even when he receives bad news from the other side.
"Two of them are missing, I have Gianini on the CCTVs inside the mansion, Ryohei and Lambo are on them," there was a moment of silence before Gokudera continues "Don't lift a finger boss, we'll get them,"
Tsuna glances sideways at Satsuki. If she gets involved, he'd have to lift more than a finger. "Alright," he says before the call ends. People were still after her. That was one of the things that weighed on him the most. The rumor that Vongola had a life flame wielder started to unfurl in other families. Some didn't believe it, some didn't need it, some, however, wanted to meet her, use her and extort her.
That got Tsuna's blood boiling in seconds flat. "You're gripping my hand a little too tight there," She had said it in a relaxed way but Tsuna loosened his grip and apologized immediately. She just laughed it off, "Are you sure everything's okay?" and then it suddenly clicked in her mind. "Oh… It's one of those again… Isn't it?"
Satsuki was by no means stupid. It had happened before and Tsuna had wanted to be truthful to her. This was the third time it had happened, with three different families visiting them asking to run tests on her, three different families rejected.
The first time it was proposed to Tsuna, he was shocked and so volcanically angry that the only words he uttered in that meeting was "Leave. Now," He spent half the day in the training room afterwards.
By the second time, he and Reborn had hashed up a script for him to say. They would deny the rumor, and send the family off on their way, along with protocol surveillance of the said rejected family.
Nothing aggressive had happened so far, but Tsuna was always alert when it happened.
"Don't worry about it," Tsuna smiled oh-so reassuringly at her. He earnestly believed that the rumor would die down soon, specially with their constant rejections.
They'd arrived at the door to his office, Satsuki was silent for a moment, but didn't say anything and decided to trust him. Tsuna had drilled it into her mind that she shouldn't be guilty for anything. The Vongola had gone through a lot, this was but a speck in their record.
It was here that Satsuki actually got a good look at Tsuna, while they were standing outside his office door. He was clad in a black suit and yellow tie. That always got her. She lifted her hands and adjusted his tie a little, seeing it slightly lopsided. "You always look good in a tie…" She mindlessly says.
Tsuna feels heat crawl up in his cheeks. Lately she's been more touchy and…coy. Or maybe it was just his imagination. He could feel goosebumps on his arms as he watched her fix his tie. Her raven hair seemed to cascade around her face like alluring curtains. His eyes traced its way down her facial features, to her appetize-inducing lips. And the way she was looking up at him exposed her neck, he could see the scar there, and yet to him it was beautiful, a mark of her tenacity. Her exposed neck was so temptingly accessible. Oh, how he just wanted to dip in and taste—
Tsuna had to take a deep breath, trying to stop his thoughts from running wild. He placed his own hand on top of hers on the tie, stopping her from fixing it. If anyone else touches you I might be able to kill them.
"I'm gunna have to warn you right here," Tsuna suddenly said, exhaling the breath he didn't know he was holding, "One of these days, I might take you to my room instead of my office…" he trailed off, locking eyes with her, trying to get the point across.
Dear God. It was her turn to blush. She was at a loss for words, she didn't take him for the kind of man to say something so outright like that, he must've been half at his wit's end. When it came down to it though, she knew that he wouldn't do anything against her will. She gulped and averted her eyes away from him, the pink dusting her cheeks serving to entice Tsuna the slightest bit more "I'm not… completely deterred to that," she finally says.
Tsuna's mind freezes over for a second, not believing that they were having this conversation outside his office. He chuckles and steps away from her the slightest bit, running a hand through his hair. He takes a huge breath and sighs it out slowly, trying to calm the nerves of his that were going haywire.
It gets dangerous when you answer like that.
With a subtle chuckle he takes her hand and leads her inside his office. "Well, for now, I need some tea to calm my mind," he settles them inside for their routine afternoon tea time and the day passes on in total normalcy.
Pretty soon drinks won't be enough to calm me.
