**I don't own these characters**
"So Sydney just showed up at your apartment?" Linda questioned.
"Yeah, she seemed just as shocked to see Jamie there as Jamie was to see her." Eddie explained.
"I can't believe that." Erin laughed.
It had come time for the weekly lunch of the Reagan women, plus Eddie.
"So, I'm standing in the hallway, Sydney looks like she's seen a ghost, Jamie just looks confused. She hands over the business card to the therapist she recommends, turns to go, and then decides against and asks Jamie if he wants to go out for coffee sometime to catch up." Eddie continues to explain. "He then looks even more confused, she hands him her business card and says think about it and practically ran from our apartment. I got a kick out of the whole thing."
"How do you feel about Sydney asking Jamie out for coffee?" Linda asked.
"I mean it was a little weird because like, I was there, but she didn't see me. Though from what Jamie said, they used to be good friends. It's just coffee, if it was dinner, I might not be as okay with it, but I trust Jamie."
"Speaking of Jamie, how's he doing?" Linda asked.
"He's doing okay, he has physical therapy this morning, he still moves slowly but he's walking pretty well now. His head hurts a lot still, he tries to hide it from me, but he flinches every time there's a bright light. He's struggling, but I think he's getting better." Eddie answered.
"Reagan men bounce back, it's what they do," Erin said squeezing Eddie's hand.
"I hope so," Eddie said. "How has your week been Linda?"
"Danny has been working a homicide, he hasn't been home. The boys have sports practice and school. Jack is struggling with math and I still am working at the hospital at night." Linda sighed. "I'm running low on energy and I feel like if I stretch much thinner I will tear."
"I'm sorry Linda."
"It is what it is, I knew what I was signing up for when I married Danny" Linda sighed. "How are you doing Erin?"
"Surviving as best I can. Nicki will be the death of me before she graduates. Between paperwork, grades, and boys I have my hands full, plus work." Erin sighed.
"This is why I am glad my children are still safe inside me. I'm not sure how Jamie and I are going to cope once the twins are born." Eddie groaned.
"You and Jamie are going to be great parents!" Linda exclaimed. "I've known Jamie was going to be a great father from as soon as Jack was born and I saw Jamie play with him.
"I know Jamie will do great, he's had great role models. I never really had a mom that was very active in my life and I don't really know what to do when it comes to mothering
Children." Eddie explained.
"Oh, I understand that. I felt that way." Linda agreed.
"You'll do fine, but if you want, I still have some parenting books from before Nicki was born."
"I would love to flip through some of those." Eddie said.
"Jamie, I'm home." Eddie called out.
No response.
"Jamie!" She called out again.
"I'm in the bedroom." Jamie answered.
Eddie knew something was wrong the second that she heard his voice. It was raspy and thick with emotion.
"Jamie, what's wrong?" Eddie said practically running across the apartment.
"Nothing's wrong." Jamie answered.
"You are lying down in the middle of the day, in our room with the shades closed and the lights off. You are not okay." Eddie demanded. "What the hell is wrong." Panic started racing through.
"I had my physical assessment today." Jamie started. "My physical therapist said basically it's impossible for me to have a full range of movement in my shoulder, let alone be a cop again. The decision was made for us Eddie. I'll never get to be a cop again."
"Jamieā¦" Eddie barely said. She felt her heartbreak with his. "I don't know what to say."
"Is there anything to say? We talked about it being a possibility." Jamie's voice was sounding almost robotic now.
Eddie made her way through the dark and sat beside him and took his hand.
"Jamie, just because we talked about you may be leaving the NYPD doesn't mean it doesn't hurt when that choice gets taken away."
"Can we not talk about this right now. I don't want to talk about it." Jamie snapped. Eddie jumped slightly at his tone. "Sorry. I just-"
"No, it's okay," Eddie said squeezing his hand. "I'll go so you can be alone."
"No, stay." Jamie said, the voice now almost sounding like a plea.
"Of course." Eddie promised, "Make room."
Jamie did his best to move over on the bed. Eddie lay down next to him. "We'll get through this. We've been through worse.
