***I don't own these characters, I'm just a fan who wants to tell a story***

It was a few minutes after eleven when Jamie got to the coffee shop. Sydney was already sitting at a table. Jamie went to the counter and ordered his coffee and then sat in the seat across from her.

"Hi." Sydney greeted.

"Hey." Jamie said.

Jamie was starting to think he made a mistake, he and Syd hadn't seen each other in years. Why did he think it was good for them to meet?

"Thanks for meeting up." Sydney said with a smile. "It's been ages."

"Yeah." Jamie answered. "What have you been up to?"

"I've been working for a law firm in Boston for the past three years, the firm got the Keller case and since I'm used to the New York scene, I got the case." Sydney started. "It's been keeping me busy."

"I bet." Jamie responded.

"What have you been up to?" Sydney questioned. "Make detective yet?"

"I'm currently not working, I got shot about a month ago, so I'm still recovering." Jamie explained.

"Oh my God, Jamie! Are you okay?" Sydney exclaimed.

"Well, I survived. I was in a coma for eight days and I have a long road of physical therapy ahead of me" Jamie answered.

"That's horrible, that must have been hard on Eddie."

"It was, but she's a trooper."

"I mean to keep up with you she'd have to be. So how long have you and Eddie been together?"

"Just a couple months. We got together after we found out she was pregnant." Jamie explained.

"Wait really. I was convinced you guys had been together longer. The way Eddie talks about you I was sure you guys had been together for years."

"Well, we've known each other for four years, she and I were partnered on the job. Then things just happened from there." Jamie explained.

"Really? Sounds like an interesting story."

Eddie stared at her computer... She had writer's block. She had it bad. She hadn't written in several weeks and to be honest she no longer cared about the story she was writing. She was about to close her computer to tuck it away and forget her writing failure. Her social media alerted her she had a new message.

Alex: Hey Eddie! I know I haven't reached out in a long time, I just read an article about a trial in New York and it said that you were kidnapped like two months ago. I just wanted to know how you are doing? I also read that you are pregnant with twins? Like what the hell girl? How could you not tell me that you were getting that serious with a dude? Well, I hope you are doing okay. We should talk sometime and catch up.

Eddie couldn't help but smile. Alex was Eddie's former roommate all four years of college. They had kept in contact some but they had drifted apart the past couple of years since Alex now lived in Seattle.

Eddie: Hey Alex! It's good to hear from you! Sorry for not letting you know about the twins...life has just been crazy and I forgot. Yes, we should call and catch up, that way I can tell you all about my new boyfriend Jamie. He's the best.

Alex: YES! Also, Jamie was your old partner at the NYPD?
Eddie: Yes, we got together a couple of months ago.

Alex: AND THERE'S ALREADY TWO BABIES ON THE WAY?

Eddie: we may be doing things a little backwards.

Eddie's computer started to ring as a video call started to come in.

"Okay, I'm technically supposed to be working but you need to spill the beans NOW!" Alex said in her chipper voice as soon as Eddie accepted the call.

"What do you want to know?" Eddie asked.

"Everything!" Alex shot back.

"Um. So Jamie and I got drunk, slept together, swore we wouldn't let it affect our partnership, thought we had put it behind us and then two months later I found out I was pregnant. I got into a car accident, I told him I was pregnant, my life was then put into danger and so was Jamie's so we were staying at his Dad's house. We decided to give the relationship a try, I got kidnapped. He saved me. I was staying at his place until I recovered but then. Jamie got shot so, I moved in full time because my lease was up. Now, I'm six months pregnant and Jamie is still recovering from getting shot. That's about it." Eddie explained.

"What. the. HELL! AND YOU DIDN'T TELL ME ANY OF THIS?" Alex exclaimed.

"Life got crazy...It just forgot." Eddie said apologetically.

"I'm going to be an aunt and you just forgot to tell me." Alex sighed in disappointment.

"It's been intense here."

"I know it sounds like it could be a book." Alex stated.

"Alex that's it!" Eddie exclaimed.

"What?" Alex asked. "Did I just do something"

"I've had horrible writers' block for weeks and you just gave me a new book idea!"

"Really? I'm so happy!" Alex said. "I didn't know you had started writing again?"

"It's a new thing, I started when I couldn't work and I started writing because I was bored."

"Well, send me some of the stuff you write, I would love to read it. I also have some connections at some publishing agencies so who knows if it's really good I might be able to get them to take a look at it."

"I appreciate that Alex." Eddie said with a smile.

"Oh! I almost forgot. I'm gonna be in New York this Christmas to visit Marcus so I should stop by your place and we can catch up."

"I'd love that!"
