Chapter 4
The rest of the week was pretty routine. Her mom still hadn't shown backup and Kim was hardly around either. Amanda was worried about Kim going down the wrong path, but knew she would never listen to her. She woke up early every morning and went to work. And each morning 2 detectives stopped by for coffee. On Friday Amanda did something she would have never done before. When she wrote Liv on the coffee cup she drew a heart and wrote her cell number beside it. She handed Liv her coffee and said "Just in case you miss me, because I'm not working this weekend." Fin saw the cup and couldn't wait to talk to her. "Liv I'll be in the car." He started calling her Liv since Amanda had given her the nickname.
Liv stepped closer to the counter and asked if she could speak with Amanda outside. Amanda asked for a 5 minute break and her co worker covered for her. They stepped outside and Amanda asked "What's up?" Liv looked at her shocked she was so brave. "How old are you Amanda? Because you look really young and I'm a cop. Can't be caught doing anything illegal." Amanda smiled and said "Well I'm legal if that's all that's holding you back! I'm 19 Liv." Liv smirked "Yeah ever heard of barely legal?" Amanda didn't know what was drawing her to Liv and honestly she had never been interested in girls before. "Well how old are you like 25 or something?" Liv laughed uncontrollably. "Oh you're funny. I'm 32 which is way too old for you." Amanda rolled her eyes and shook her head. "So the big bad detective is afraid of me because of a little age gap. You know what, just lose my fucking number ok. Sorry I bothered you by being nice." Amanda turned around and started to stomp off showing every bit of her age, when Olivia grabbed her by the arm. Amanda felt a tingle all over her body when she felt Liv's hand on her arm. It wasn't a tight hold, but it was enough to get her attention and let her know she was a little pissed. She was so close to Amanda's face when she said "1 I'm not afraid of anything, 2 I'm a cop and you better believe that I believe in discipline and it's not polite to roll your eyes at me or anyone and that mouth of yours is awful, 3 I'm working all weekend, but I will not lose your number." She walked away from Amanda and left her with her jaw dropped.
Liv walked away feeling and headed for the car knowing Amanda was just looking at her in shock. "So Liv you gonna give her a call or what? You've always had an open mind dating whoever" Liv smiled and said "Maybe but Fin she's awfully young. I don't know how anything would work." Fin just looked at Liv while she was talking and then said "Liv she seems like a great person forget her age. She obviously has taken a liking to you. Hey maybe you 2 could at least be friends if nothing else. She is new to New York and seems to have a story. Liv, maybe she needs someone." Liv really thought about what Fin was saying and her life had been lonely. Her last partner had just left her and she had no current relationship. "Well Fin like I told her, I'm working all weekend but I'll keep her number."
Amanda took the weekend to relax. She deposited some of her tip money and kept a hundred and some change in her backpack. She decided she would deposit most of her check and give her mom some of it and do the same with her daily tip money. She knew her mom was going to come back soon. She always did and she also knew she better have some money when she returned. On Sunday Kim came home about 5 pm that was a sign that dear old mom was returning shortly. Amanda moved her stuff to a corner in the living room. The floor was going to be hard and Amanda was already dreading the night. Why hadn't she been smart and picked up an air bed. Amanda went to get pizza and figured everyone could grab a slice. Kim didn't want any and when her mom came in around 7pm all she complained about was not having a home cooked meal. Amanda almost laughed out loud, because she couldn't remember the last time her mom cooked anything. Amanda went back to her corner and sat quietly. This was how it was going to be and she wondered if she was going to be able to handle all of it.
Monday morning she got up early because she had work at the coffee shop and then school. Her back was killing her and she made a note to pick up an air bed ASAP. The only thing that made her move faster was hoping to catch Liv before school. Around 7 on the dot in strolled her 2 favorite detectives. Her co worker already knew the routine. Amanda would slide over and help Fin and Liv on the side while she picked up the line. "Hey you 2! good morning. You guys want your usual?" With a shake of the head she started working. Liv moved closer and actually started a conversation with her. "Amanda did you have a good weekend since you had off and I didn't?" Amanda shook her head "It was pretty boring, sat around the house eating pizza and watching tv." Liv started asking about her family. "What about your family? Who did you come here to stay with?" Amanda hesitated and that wasn't a good thing. I mean Liv was a detective and she knew she had better say something fast. "Well I'm living with my mom and sister here now because things weren't working out for me in Georgia so I figured I would give it a try. They have their own life and friends so I'm kinda on my own." Liv felt that there was something Amanda wasn't saying but she said enough. Liv felt bad that she had given Amanda a hard time. Liv knew who's it felt living with a mom that didn't care. She lived that way her entire childhood. She was telling her she had no one. "Well pizza everyday isn't healthy, so maybe you can come to my place for dinner this week. What time do you get off?" Amanda was shocked, but said "Oh I get off at 5." Liv looked at Amanda and said "you work here from 5-5? Gosh that's a lot of coffee." Amanda laughed knowing she wouldn't tell her she was a senior in high school. Liv already had a problem with her age so the high school thing would definitely throw her for a loop and she felt like they could finally be friends and maybe have a chance for more. "Well I have a big break in the middle." Liv squinted at her, patted Amanda's hand and said "Ok well I'll call you when I look at my work schedule this week. See ya Amanda." Amanda was falling for her hard.
