No matter how fast you are, you cannot outrun the inevitable.

Along with his other famed monikers, Superman had one that very few people tended to use, despite the fact that it was one of the names that he enjoyed the most. That he was the 'Second Fastest Man Alive'. To his immediate left and with his arm around both himself and Diana, was Wally West, the Flash.

Superman may have been powerful enough to circle the globe in seconds, but the Flash was powerful enough to rip through the time-space continuum, being the master of the Speed Force, the mysterious charge that fueled his higher levels of speed. Almost no one, with the exception of Diana, Bruce, and J'onn knew that in between ticks of the clock Clark and Wally could engage in completely separate conversations, or even perform other duties on the station, while moving so fast it appeared that they never moved from their spot.

Diana had always found it funny during her time thus far with the League, her God-given heightened senses allowing her to watch Clark and Wally suddenly break out of a meeting to race around the moon then come back into the room, while it appeared to everyone else that Superman had not even stopped speaking. Despite her discomfort with some of his off-colour humour, Wally was one of the most powerful and respected members of the league. If herself, Clark and Bruce, symbolized Truth, Hope, and Justice, then it was Wally who embodied the Spirit of what they represented.

It was in this moment here when Wally had just asked how the two had gotten together and playfully thrown his arms around the two of them that Diana watched as Superman and the Flash engaged in what may have been their most intense verbal sparring match yet, all taking place in between the seconds.

"What were you thinking Wally? Can't you keep a secret for more than five seconds?!" Clark said, immediately (and roughly) removing Wally's arms from Diana's and his shoulder.

"What are you talking about what was I thinking? You finally decide to acknowledge that you and Diana have some serious feelings for eachother and act on them and you expect us to shut up about it? Do you have any idea how much money is involved in the two of you getting together? Someone just became as rich as Bruce, and it wasn't me!" Wally responded, obviously frustrated at losing a small fortune, as Diana and Clark had gotten together not on the timeline he had wanted.

"Well Wally for someone who's supposed to be the fastest man alive, your mind seems to be working pretty slow. You had leverage to bet big, and end up winning everything, but you chose to break out early and waste it for no reason" Clark shot back, allowing a small bit of satisfaction to cross his features. He didn't care about any of the gambling that took place among several members of the League in regards to matchmaking on the station. However, he wanted Wally to feel some of the hurt that he had just caused himself and Diana, and hitting him in his wallet seemed to be a good idea.

"What are you so concerned about though Clark? Everyone would have picked up on it eventually. Even if I had been able to keep it under wraps, someone else would have figured it out within the next five minutes. You two over there might as well have been going at in on the floor of the conference room. I could tell that you were both enjoying teasing eachother, thinking that no one would notice. You can't be so reckless, not when these eyes can move faster than the speed of light" Wally quipped, smirking at Clark, making his eyes begin to glow red slightly.

"Oh dear, something tells me there's a lot more to this than just me blowing their secret" Wally thought to himself, as he quickly took a deep breath, readying himself for the onslaught that he knew was coming.

"Do you not understand that this meeting wasn't about us Wally? Even if we had wanted to shout it from the god-damn rafters, that's not important right now. As much as we both hate to admit it, this is possibly one of the worst times that she and I could have come together. We're going to war Flash" Clark responded, causing Wally's eyes to widen in surprise.

In the time it took Batman to blink, Clark had relayed everything to Wally, giving him a brief overview of what was happening on Themyscira at that moment, and what was to come on the island.

"Oh Jesus, that's crazy. We're getting involved in another Gods vs. Gods fight? Sometimes I wonder why we ever get involved in any of these supernatural battles, it seems so surreal" Wally finally responded with, taking a millisecond longer to respond to Clark, showing him that he had indeed begun to grasp that by shifting the focus of the meeting, they were taking away from a very serious issue.

Clark arched an eyebrow at Wally and lowered his head, commenting right back "This coming from the man who can vibrate through solid objects and go back in time just by running really fast?"

Wally was just as fast in his response, "I'll take that as a compliment from the alien with laser eyes".

They both laughed and Diana could see that in the span of a few seconds they had worked the situation out, as they always did. The two of them to everyone else never appeared to disagree.

"Oh if they only knew" Diana thought to herself briefly, knowing that only she and Bruce disagreed with Clark more than Wally.

"I'm sorry for ruining the surprise Clark" Wally said, turning momentarily serious.

"I'm sorry too Wally" Clark responded, allowing a small frown to cross his features, confusing Wally.

"What do you have to be sorry for?" Wally was the one who had ruined the news, the meeting, turned the focus away from a major issue important to several people. "What could possibly be left?"

"For this Wally. I may forgive you, but that doesn't mean she's going to let you get away with it" Clark said, suddenly blurring his head to the left, faster than Wally had ever seen him move, only to be caught off guard by a hard slap to the side of his head from Diana that he didn't even see coming.

"Ouch" was Wally's only response as he lay in a heap at the head of the conference table, where Diana walked up to him and looked down, calmly responding "Now we're all even. Remember Flash, I'm gifted with speed by Hermes himself".

Wally chuckled as he picked himself up, the last thought going through his head before the speed of the world returned to normal again being "As I told Clark, this is why I don't like battling Gods".

To everyone else in the room it appeared that the Flash was suddenly thrown across the room by some unseen force, momentarily distracting the conversations and pandemonium in the room that had begun to take hold after Clark and Diana's secret had been brought to light.

"Wally, what the hell happened?" Hal said, immediately racing over to the side of his best friend.

"Nothing that a little ice won't fix Hal, and nothing that isn't well deserved" Wally responded, as he began to regain his footing while regarding Diana who he'd noticed was developing a small smirk and a twinkle in her eye that he had never seen before.

"Oh great, Wonder Woman and Superman get together, and now suddenly this place is a powderkeg" Wally thought to himself, mentally noting that the upside of this was that now the two of them would be even more devastating in combat. As best friends they had been a force to be reckoned with, but as lovers on the battlefield, they would be practically unstoppable.

"I'm not sure what just happened but I think all of us would still like to know why you two have finally decided to pull the sticks out of your rears and loosen up a bit and find love like the rest of us" Oliver spoke up, causing Dinah next to him to admonish him with a half-chastising/half-agreeing look.

"While I wouldn't use Ollie's colourful language, I still agree, we deserve a right to know. Two of the most powerful members of the League are in a relationship with eachother, this could change the dynamic of everything" Dinah spoke up, folding her hands on the table and leaning forward expectantly.

"There will be time to discuss the social lives of certain League members later, but right now we have priorities that are much more important than this high school bull!" Bruce shouted, bringing the full force of the Dark Knight's commanding presence into the room, immediately quieting most people.

"That voice doesn't scare us anymore Bruce. This is the most exciting news we've heard all week by far, I think we have a right to know before we fly off on another mission that could potentially get us killed" Billy said, standing up and walking over to face Bruce.

"I'm not taking the advice of a pre-teen in a man's body Batson, you've earned your place at the adult's table, so act like it" Bruce responded, causing Billy to move face-to-face with him.

Clark was about to step in between the two of them and put a stop to this when he paused, hearing very distinct footsteps outside the conference door.

"Don't let him bother you kid, you know he's a big softie under all that gothic makeup anyway".

Everyone in the room turned to the doorway, which was now occupied by a short yet imposing presence. The striking woman with short cropped black hair and piercing green eyes strode over to the front of the table, placing her hands on the chests of both Batman and Captain Marvel, and pushed them apart with an ease that shouldn't have been expected from someone taking on the Dark Knight and the World's Mightiest Mortal at the same time.

She was out of her costume, dressed in short heels, black jeans, and a dark blue tightly fitted sweater. Despite this civilian attire, she still commanded a presence that put her on the same level as the most powerful heroes in the room. She was Selina Kyle, also known as Catwoman, and Bruce's fiancée.

Billy blushed, immediately backing away, and awkwardly searching for something to look at besides Selina, while Bruce looked more uncomfortable than Clark had ever seen him before. Here was the woman who had taken down Batman on several occasions, and was also the unconditional love of his life, the one who had managed to make Bruce propose on a Gotham rooftop last year. And ever since Bruce had first introduced her to the League, she had also been one of Diana's close friends.

Clark took that moment to x-ray Bruce's face under his cowl, and committed the look on his face to memory. He was so distracted by the whole situation that his super-hearing almost missed something faint that was working unseen in the room. His eyes widened as he turned to Bruce, the look on Batman's face betraying him, and suddenly Clark understood that despite his and Diana's recent bombshell, what Bruce was hiding was an atom bomb.

"So what's all this fuss about Diana and Clark I'm hearing about? Diana, did Clark finally come around and confess his feelings for you, or did you do what I've been telling you for years and tie him up with the lasso and just take the stubborn guy?" Selina said, turning to Diana, who had turned several different shades of red.

"Kal came to me on Themyscira and battled the finest of the Amazons while I dealt with my mother, just so he could finally tell me that he loved me, and then we spent the rest of our time together prior to arriving here" Diana said, looking over at Clark, who couldn't help but stand a bit straighter.

"Ah that makes sense, and judging by the look on your face and Clark's posture, I'm willing to bet my comment about the lasso wasn't far off?" Selina responded, laughing as Diana's embarrassment turned to anger, her eyes narrowing at her.

"Oh it's alright, I don't kiss and tell either, well much anyway. I will say that Batman is quite fond of my whip though…" Selina said, the end of her sentence being cut off by Hal spitting his coffee out across the table, the entire rest of the League having been silent since she had entered the room.

The look Bruce gave Hal would have killed him if he had Clark's powers, causing Wally to burst out laughing, immediately followed by Hal and Ollie, and suddenly the entire room, with the exception of a furious Batman, and a still-bewildered Clark and Diana was in an uproar of laughter.

Selina walked over to Wonder Woman and put her arm around her, and commented "Don't worry Diana, you don't have the biggest news of the day, everyone will forget about yours and Clark's love-life once everyone realizes I'm pregnant".

Within half-a-second, the room, which moments ago had been a pandemonium of questions and laughter, had fallen dead silent, even more so than ever before. Everyone turned to Batman, whose furious expression hadn't changed at all.

"Yes its true" Bruce said simply, the fury and frustration still very evident in his voice, and in typical Batman fashion not giving any further information than the basics.

"Batman likes to think he knows everything, but sometimes even I can surprise him. I'm having twins" Selina said, causing Bruce to visibly stumble and catch himself on the table, briefly losing his composure.

"I think that is the first time I have ever seen Batman caught off-guard" Diana spoke up, being the first one to speak after Selina dropped her double-barrel of news on the room.

"You can't surprise everyone Selina, I heard the heartbeats just after you walked in the room" Clark said, tapping his left ear with his hand.

Bruce sent him an angry glance of betrayal, while Diana smiled.

"What? You wanted me to tell you I knew in the maybe 30 seconds from the time she entered the room to announcing the news?" Clark responded, raising both hands up in a defensive manner, trying very hard not to laugh, but it seemed to upset him even more.

"Of course Clark knew right away and like the gentleman he is, he didn't ruin her announcement" Diana thought to herself, briefly looking to a possible future where she might make a similar announcement of her own. It wasn't until she had gotten to know Clark that she had even considered having children at all. She also felt Clark didn't need to know at that moment that she recently found out from Aphrodite that she should have no trouble becoming a mother when the time came.

"I'll save that little piece of information for when we're alone at some point" She smiled to herself, a powerful loving warmth filling her to her core.

The next twenty minutes were filled with several congratulatory remarks for both Bruce and Selina from the entire League that was present in the conference room. It had taken awhile, but thanks to some goading from his pregnant fiancée, Bruce had begun to lighten up a bit from his initial fury at the whole situation. Clark could tell that despite his gruff demeanor at the whole situation, Batman was excited to be a father. Now he could understand why Bruce might have had ulterior motives for helping bring Clark and Diana together besides just being a good friend. He was trying to make the world just a little bit safer for his new family. This was a motivation that Clark could understand, especially coming from Bruce, as everyone knew the story about Batman having lost his parents at such a young age.

"The classic origin story" Clark thought to himself bitterly, hoping that if Bruce's children followed in his footsteps and became heroes like them, that they would do so out of want, and not out of tortured childhood anguish.

Out of the corner of his eye Bruce noticed the glow that seemed to emanate from Diana and that her arms were absent-mindlessly hugged around her mid-section, and immediately picked up what Clark had yet to see, that she had taken notice of Selina's pregnancy and was most likely thinking of her own possible future children with Clark.

"Now that's an X-factor there" Bruce thought to himself, immediately realizing that right there in that room was the future of the Justice League. He remembered Dick telling him that he was fighting a never ending battle and that he had to plan for a future where he wouldn't be fighting on the front-lines anymore. He would always be in the battle, but Selina's pregnancy had changed much in him. He understood that if he wanted to be a father to his children then he would eventually have to step aside for the next generation. The knowledge that if his children took up the mantles of their mother and father, that they could fight alongside the children of Superman and Wonder Woman, allowed him to breathe a bit easier. Bruce had lost count of the number of times they had all saved eachother's lives.

"For the first time in my life, the future fills me with hope". A rare smile tugged at the corner of Batman's mouth, drawing cheers and ribbings from the entire room to see him break his trademark composure while in costume. But he didn't care. He was looking forward to the future, but they had to get there first, and Bruce was going to make sure they all got there safe and sound.

"Alright enough everybody! We have planning to do! Now everyone listen to what Superman and Wonder Woman originally came here to say!" Batman shouted, slamming his armored fist roughly down on the metal conference table, charging his gauntlets with electricity as he did, allowing a charge to shoot through the table and the chairs, shocking everybody out of their present conversations.

Clark and Diana stood and relayed the situation to everyone, who very quickly quieted down upon hearing that a battle of the Gods was coming to Themyscira, and that they would most likely be witness to the resurrection of Osiris, one of the friendlier deities in the world. The idea that one of the most powerful Egyptian deities could be brought back to the surface, and in turn could earn the Justice League the trust and gratitude of one of the strongest pantheons in the universe, was something that had everyone at the table bracing themselves with the implications.

"So tell me again why Ra is not getting involved? Maybe I should travel to Egypt first and consult the scrolls" Hawkman said, being the first to speak up after Clark and Diana had finished speaking.

"Ra is not getting involved for the same reason that Zeus does not get involved when Ares or any of the Olympians wage war on us. There are divine rules at play here. There may be a way to catch his attention, but we can't just simply ask for his help. He will not hear our prayers Carter" Diana responded, causing Hawkman to sigh loudly in frustration.

"The addition of Set in this bothers me. I can feel his energies in the mystical realm. He is not going to stand by and just let Isis revive Osiris. This could be one of the toughest battles yet. And Superman you should be especially concerned. Whereas myself, Diana, and Billy have some degree of protection against the type of Egyptian magic that we're up against, you will be vulnerable. You know that magic for you can be worse than kryptonite" Zatanna commented, causing Clark to visibly stiffen.

"Of course it had to be magic. Why are we never just attacked by guys with guns like in the old days" Clark thought to himself. It seemed every day they were up against either someone that had some magic talisman or a variety of kryptonite to slow him down. It was why he had been training with Diana to up his resistance to his weaknesses over the past few years. Her Amazonian meditation techniques had offered him some assistance, and it was why he had been more powerful in recent encounters with some of their enemies.

"We'll manage, we always do" Clark said, as he noticed that Diana seemed uncomfortable when Zatanna spoke of the magic that was involved in this situation.

"The Justice League vs. Set, Ares, and the Armies of Hell. Sounds divine to me" Wally said, earning groans from the entire room at his lame joke, but secretly happy for a break in the tension.

"Oh and who knows who else Ares has managed to talk to. Remember Black Adam warned us about gathering forces" Billy spoke up, having been briefed on the earlier encounter where Adam had almost leveled half the city, had it not been for the efforts of Superman and Wonder Woman.

"So what happens now?" Hal said, leaning forward and folding his hands, the fighter pilot and intergalactic police officer ready to get the action moving.

"Now we split into several teams and get ready to meet Ares' forces" Diana said, as Bruce indicated J'onn to stand up and assign everyone to their duties.

"Superman, Wonder Woman, and Wonder Girl will head back to Themyscira to meet with Isis and the Amazonian Queen to begin organizing the forces there. No doubt she has already begun preparing some unique surprises" J'onn said, causing Clark to visibly wince, remembering his recent battle with the Spider armor.

"Captain Marvel, Green Lanterns Hal and John, Hawkman, and Hawkgirl will head to our Grecian offshore post where Aquaman will be waiting for you to set up our water assault" J'onn said, as Hal quickly stood, leading everyone out.

"Flash and Zatanna, you will remain here, along with everyone else. Get everything sorted here and Wally make sure the transporters are all in working order, we'll need to be able to call in reinforcements at a moment's notice. I'm thinking that the forces of chaos and evil are not going to take a break in the middle of a war". Wally smiled, saluting them both, and sped out of the room, but not before speeding past Clark and flicking him in the ear, laughing while he did it. In as quick a movement as Wally, Clark had quickly used his breath to freeze the spot just outside the exit of the conference room, and watched as Wally caught the ice, sliding out of the door, before crashing into a heap.

"You alright there Wally, need some help?" Diana shouted, chuckling at Clark's actions. "I'll be alright Diana, unless you want to come kiss it better?" Wally shouted, before speeding off to the central control core to begin the maintenance checks.

Clark snickered, causing Diana to briefly glare at him, before they both turned to Bruce who was still there in the room with Selina.

"So what are you going to be doing Bruce? I noticed that J'onn didn't call your name" Clark said, watching as to his surprise Batman looked quite uncomfortable and didn't answer right away.

"Oh we're going to be there, just not near the main Amazon camp. Bruce is taking me to the Healing Isle on Themyscira. He wants the babies to be checked out by Epione, the Amazon healer" Selina said, causing both Clark and Diana to look at him in surprise.

"You're going to the Healing Isle Bruce? You, who doesn't trust any type of magic, is letting Epione look over Selina?" Diana said, still not believing her ears.

"Just because I don't trust the magic of Themyscira does not mean I do not see the benefit of making sure my children are developing safely and are healthy. And I will cooperate with whatever science is available, including those that I don't always understand" Bruce said, putting his arm around Selina.

"The things we do for love" Clark sighed aloud, earning a giggle from both Diana and Selina, and a deep scowl from Bruce.

"Oh you're hilarious Kent" He responded, which only made all three of them laugh louder.

"Now if you're all done, we're going to head out, Selina wanted to make a stop at home before we head out to Themyscira" Bruce said, nodding to all of them, and then beginning to make his way out.

Diana took that opportunity to reach out and give Selina a warm embrace. "Congratulations Sister, I hope you get two wonderful girls, Bruce would deserve it".

"Yes congratulations Bruce, and to answer your next question, no I can't tell yet if they're girls or boys" Clark said, shaking his hand before he headed out of the room.

"See you both very soon, maybe we can have some Amazonian coffee before the end of the world" Selina responded, smiling before taking Bruce's arm in hers and heading out of the room.

"So now are you going to tell me why you looked nervous?" Clark said, reaching over and bringing Diana closer to him, noting that the uncomfortable look she had had in her eyes had returned.

"I know we promised that we would deal with this as it came, but knowing how much magic will be involved in the coming war, I am concerned for your safety. I do not wish to lose you now Kal" Diana responded, holding Clark's hand tightly.

"Now you are beginning to understand what I was worried about, but do not worry, I will be fine, after all I have a tall, strong, beautiful, and invulnerable to magic girlfriend to hide behind if I have to. I have no shame admitting that" Clark said, winking at her.

"And don't you forget it" She said, smiling, and gripping her lasso with her right hand.

"Let's go visit your family and start getting ready. I have a feeling your mother is going to want to see us after the way we left them last time" Clark said, as Diana immediately looked uncomfortable again. The last time she had seen her mother, they had just finished battling with the finest of the Amazonian military and Hippolyta herself.

"Don't worry, I'll protect you" Diana said, holding Clark around the waist as they both headed out of the room. Their secret was out, everyone knew, but just like that it was back to business as usual.

"My hero" Clark said dreamily, wrapping his hands around her waist as well, the door closing with a click behind them, their playful laughter following.

Thank you everyone for the reviews, they are much appreciated and keep me going!

JohnTitor: I suggest you read beyond the first chapter if you think Superman is 'angsty'

Guest(1): The HG/GL reference was just a shout-out to a friend, there are no more planned in this story, and since I gave a scene to Hawkman in this chapter, you never know what's going on…
