Fallout New Vegas: Chronicles of the Legion's Regime
Arrival to the Mojave
Now that Caesar's Legion has conquered the Mojave Wasteland, it was quick to take over the surrounding areas surrounding it and is now the dominating force of the wasteland.
The other factions also had their presence in the Mojave albeit in small number and are willing to assist the Legion only because of Six and so long as the Legion's best interests align with theirs.
The towns remained independent and managed to form their own militias thanks to armaments supplied by Cassidy-Barton Caravans. To recognize their independence, Caesar demands a tribute to be paid in the form of caps or Legion Denarii. The towns accepted.
Six, for her part, remained active in keeping the peace in the Mojave and has assigned her companions everywhere while she coordinated everything inside the Lucky 38 Presidential Suite. To this end, she has installed the Sink Central Intelligence Unit, Blind Diode Jefferson, Light Switches 1 and 2 and the Sink herself into the Presidential Suite. She also brought Muggy in and had Raul install a booster on his back to help Muggy reach heights. She replaced the pool table with the Sink Central Intelligence Unit table. She installed Blind Diode Jefferson's module to her own jukebox. Jefferson was pleased that he can play music again. As for the two light switches, she had them installed near the sides of the elevator and allowed them control of the lights in the suite. For their Sink herself, she placed the module on the actual sink in her bathroom and allowed her control of that bathroom.
Six has been reflecting on several events whilst walking from Novac to Primm. A lot has happened in the span of a decade. The Mojave is declared safe now and the other factions are tolerant to the Legion though it's only because of her.
Out of curiosity, she heard some sort of radio signal aside from Radio New Vegas. She turned it on but it was gibberish. When she walked out of Nipton and into the desert, she saw a crashed Vertibird. She easily deduced that it was crashed only recently. She walked in cautiously and saw a man with white hair and torn scientist outfit emerge from the ruins. She readied her lightsabers and charged at the man. The man readied his Green Polesaber and attacked her. They scuffled for a bit then Six used the moment to punch the man hard in the face that made him stumble back. One of the debris made him trip and fell on his butt.
Six saw that the man is wearing a blindfold but he fought her as if he could see her. She gently took off the blindfold only for him to swat it away from him.
"Keep your disgusting legion fingers off of me! You..you.." The man didn't know how to insult his opponent due to his blindness.
Six's eyes widened. Familiar white hair, fair skin, blue eyes which have a strange glowing green to them, also the scientist coat has a Followers symbol on it. She turned off her lightsabers and holstered them.
"What's wrong you wretched Legionnaire?! Don't have the stomach to finish me off while I'm downed!?" The man shouted.
Six covered her mouth with one hand. "You don't remember me, do you?"
"I DON'T CARE TO KNOW SOME LEGION WHO SOUNDS LIKE A WOMAN! IF YOU DARE COME CLOSER, I'LL RIP YOUR INTESTINES OUT I MEAN IT!" The man roared. He felt Six started walking towards him, he shouted. "ARE YOU DUMB, I SAID STAY AWAY!"
Six ignored it and walked towards the man, she immediately recognized him. She shouted. "It's really you! My brother!"
The man was confused so Six said. "Evan, do you remember? It's me, your sister Miri!"
Evan was confused but it clicked on his head. "Wait. Miri, is that you?"
"Yes, it's me! Your sister!"
Evan felt relieved and said. "It's you! I can't believe I didn't recognize you! My sister!"
Six smiled and embraced her brother, she could hear him wince slightly. She examined his body and saw the number of injuries he suffered. "What has happened to you?"
Evan sheepishly answered. "The NCR managed to shoot a missile at my Vertibird. It hit one of the motor wings and all I could do was make a controlled crash."
"And your eyes?"
"When I flew over the Long 15, the ground zero crater somehow triggered something within myself and affected my eyesight. I am blind but my other senses have become more acute than usual."
"Come on, we have to take you to the old Mormon Fort. The doctors there can patch you up."
"Wait just one moment Miri, where's the NCR here?"
"Brother, the battle for Hoover Dam has been over for over a decade. Oliver is dead and the Legion destroyed the NCR?"
Really? The Legion won?"
Six felt hurt and Evan could tell, he sputtered out. "No! No! I'm glad you're okay, I'm just surprised at who won is all."
"It's okay. But we need to get you to the Followers. Then I'll introduce you to Caesar."
Evan clutched his chest and said. "But they'll just lock me up!"
Six was determined. "They won't! I'll make sure they won't!"
When her brother was hesitant, Six pleaded. "Please brother, come with me! I can give you a home to stay while you look for work! I can talk to the others for you! Just come with me!"
Evan bit his lip while he tried to back up his tears. Six said. "How about this, I'll introduce you to my friends then we can introduce you to Caesar tomorrow."
Evan thought of it. Sure it's his sister and they hadn't spoken in a decade or so. But at this moment, he had nothing to lose. He felt his sister offer a hand to him then...he took it.
Six lifted him up then Evan grunted and said. "You got any Stimpaks or Buffout? I'm hurt bad from the crash."
Six pulled out 3 Buffout and replied. "I believe that these'll hold you until we made it to the Old Mormon Fort in Freeside."
Evan took one Buffout then said. "Thanks. As long as the Buffout keeps working, I'll be fit to fight. The pain is tolerable enough."
Six smiled and replied. "Don't worry about getting attacked. The Mojave is safe. So safe that the travelers here don't need to carry weapons."
Evan just sighed. "I hope so."
The trip back to Vegas was indeed safe and peaceful. Six escorted her blind brother all the way back to Freeside and to the Old Mormon Fort. Julie Farkas patched Evan up and noted the Followers of the Apocalypse symbol on his shoulder which she told Six. Six then escorted her brother to the Lucky 38 where she saw all of her Companions waiting for her.
Veronica asked first. "Hey Six, who's the blind man?"
Six cleared her throat then said. "Everyone, meet my brother: Evan Washington. Evan, meet my companions."
Evan raised his hand then said. "Before that, I should tell you all that I no longer use that name anymore. My name is Mercedes Goodwin. I used that name to get the NCR off my trail."
Everyone raised an eyebrow at that. Then Veronica asked. "Mercedes? Isn't that a girl name?"
Evan, now named Mercedes, answered. "My former assistant's name was Jude Brown and it's a woman."
Veronica was shot down. "Oh."
Six introduced Mercedes to her Companions. Cass waved happily and mused. "Either your eyes are glowing or someone mixed Jet in my Whiskey." While Raul said. "Huh. I have seen plenty of blind people during my time as a smoothskin but none have glowing green eyes."
She introduced Lily the Nightkin who embraced him a little too roughly while crying out. "Awww! Little Jimmy has a brother! I'm her grandma and I'll take care of you like I did your sister."
Mercedes hesitantly replied. "Yes, Thanks." Then he said more confidently. "I once saved the life of a Super Mutant then he carried me to my outpost during my time in California."
Six introduced Ulysses and Mercedes bowed in respect as he said. "You're a man who has known the philosophies of different factions and has formed your opinion of them. You must have seen a lot."
Ulysses felt impressed and asked. "So you have known the knowledge of the Old World?"
Mercedes nodded. "Always read them during my spare time. I have a thirst of knowledge and a desire to learn to do my job better."
Ulysses nodded in understanding. "I can respect that."
Six introduced Dean Domino where Mercedes asked incredulously. "You're THE Dean Domino? I enjoyed listening to your music!"
Dean beamed and said. "Oh good. Been a VERY long time since I met a fan."
She introduced Dog next and Mercedes diagnosed that most of the injuries including the name carved are self-inflicted and deduced that it might be some trauma causing this.
Six introduced ED-E and Rex and when she explained their origins, Mercedes was tickled.
"And this here's Arcade Gannon." Six introduces the Doctor.
Mercedes 'stared' at Arcade intensely. So intense that Arcade started to be sweating at being stared at by a blind man. Then Mercedes said. "I know what you are. Enclave."
Arcade's blood froze. Did Six tell her brother about it? How did this blind man that he never even met knew? It didn't help Mercedes said it with Veronica and Christine hearing it.
"I was raised by an Enclave scientist Arcade. I can tell that they are Enclave by their auras. I can't explain but just know that I know that you are Enclave."
Arcade looked at Six with eyes screaming betrayal but Six shrugged and said. "For your information, I didn't tell him."
Arcade just whispered. "Just don't tell this to anyone."
Mercedes smiled and replied. "My lips are sealed."
Six introduced Veronica and Christine and told him. "These two are my girlfriends."
Mercedes made a noise and said. "Can't say I'm surprised. My sister always has a thing with girls." He looked at Veronica. "I will allow this but if you break my sister's heart I'm warning you that if I find you responsible, I'll rip out your major organs and transplant them to someone else. And I'm fully qualified to do so."
Veronica looked surprised and looked at Six who dryly said. "There's a reason why I'm still single till now."
Veronica smoothly told Mercedes. "You don't need to worry about a thing. I'll keep your sis nice and safe and if anybody tries to hurt her, I'll punch them good."
Mercedes nodded. "I'll hold you to that."
He turned to Christine and examined her head. Pretty weird due to the fact that he's blind. Finally he questioned. "I'm willing to assume that robots did the scars on your head?" When Christine nodded, he asked. "And the one on your throat, it's done by Auto-Doc?" Christine flinched and nodded again. Mercedes said. "I'm not sure what I can do to fix those scars. They run deeper than that. In fact, I don't think it's possible anymore."
Christine just sighed and said. "I'm used to it. I've been with them for a very long time and I've gotten over them."
Mercedes nodded and said to his sister. "Good choice of friends you got here. I approve."
Everyone beamed at his approval. Finally Six said. "You have no idea how much it means to me and my companions to hear you say that. Now, I think you should get some rest. Tomorrow, we'll be going to the Fort and you'll meet Caesar."
Everyone rested as they are curious to see how Caesar would react to get to know Six's brother.
Everyone walked to the Fort where Caesar and all of his lieutenants and Lanius waited.
Six announced. "To Lord Caesar and his commanders, I introduce to you my brother: Evan Washington, now named Mercedes Goodwin. He taught me everything I need to know about how to survive and we traveled together for a bit before I became a Courier."
Mercedes bowed in respect and said. "Pleased to meet you."
Caesar noted. "Your brother's wearing a blindfold and his eyes are glowing. Is he really blind?"
Mercedes nodded. "Yes, I am blind but that doesn't mean I'm useless in a fight. I know my way on Energy Weapons and my signature Polesaber."
Lanius came forward and examined the blind man. He mused. "Judging from your appearance, you have an uncanny habit of surviving. You have the ability to save lives but are capable of taking them. Six said that you taught her?"
Mercedes answered. "Yes. Everything about survival and her Lightsabers."
Lanius said. "If that's so, then prove it by entering into the arena. Let's see if your combat prowess hasn't waned."
Mercedes happily answered. "Okay, it'll be a nice warmup for me. If you don't mind losing a few Legionnaires to one doctor."
Six saw that the rest of the commanders and lieutenants wondering aloud how would a blind man even take out one of their recruits? Truth be told, she is curious.
Caesar announced. "Very well. Mercedes Goodwin will be matched against three Recruits. If he wins at least five, he is considered worthy."
Mercedes asked. "May I use my weapons?"
Caesar replied. "Fine. Since you're blind you may need them."
Six asked. "Are you sure? I'm not sure you can fight since you're blind."
Mercedes 'looked' at his sister and replied. "I'm sure. I may not be able to see but I can sense. Plus I learned some pre-war martial arts I want to try."
Six nodded, unsure but trusted her brother's judgment. "I hope you know what you're doing."
Six and her Companions watched from their table while the arena began. Mercedes himself vs three recruits, all of them looking smug and arrogant believing that one doctor isn't a match for them.
They charged at Mercedes and he quickly countered and parried their swings. He blocked one attack and kicked the other in the head. He turned one attacker and slammed his head down at the floor. The third managed to punch him in the face but he quickly recovered and laid down some punches and a kick to the head, disconnecting his brain from his body. Mercedes gracefully dodged the second recruit's punches by turning his body back and sideways then he used some odd green magic to burn the man's head and brutally tear his neck. At the third one, Mercedes set his hands on radioactive fire as he slashed his hands at the recruit's chest two times before letting out a cry and charging his palm at the chest, melting it through and sliding it to the top of the head in a rather gory fashion.
Caesar announced that Mercedes won the first round and declared the second which Mercedes won easily. The third and Mercedes won through using his enemy's attacks against them. The fourth and Mercedes used his Green Polesaber to parry the enemy's attacks and chopping heads off.
Meanwhile, Six and her companions were amazed while Christine and Veronica's minds went on overdrive seeing Mercedes fight with grace.
Raul mused. "Wow boss. Didn't tell us that your brother can kick butt."
Six confessed honestly. "I didn't know."
Some legion members, the higher ranking ones, were seething seeing how one blind doctor could best even the veterans with ease. Lucius looked curious and fascinated while Lanius looked intrigued. Caesar was impressed.
The last fight came in the form of two centurions who charged at Mercedes with Thermal Lances. Mercedes parried them with his hands but he knew that he couldn't hold them forever. One centurion charged at him and tried to run him over with the lance but Mercedes stand aside and tripped him with his foot. Humorously, the centurion had his neck broken by the near tip of the Thermal Lance and Mercedes raised an eyebrow at that. One centurion tackled him to the ground and he quickly grabbed the Polesaber to use it to finish the blind doctor off.
He didn't know how to activate it so he settled into beating Mercedes to death with it.
Except that he couldn't find his hand moving.
"What are you waiting for?!" Aurelius of Phoenix yelled. "Finish him!"
The centurion tried but ultimately failed as he soon found the hand holding the Polesaber suddenly moved and one of the business ends of it went to his face.
What he didn't see is that Mercedes was moving his left hand to make the centurion do it. He quietly manipulated the centurion to activate his Polesaber and...
ZZZSSSIINNGG!
The green plasma 'blade' impaled the centurion's head, killing him instantly. Everyone, including Six and her Companions, were stunned.
Mercedes pushed the dead centurion off of him and dusted himself off. Caesar declared him the winner. Inside the tent, Six asked. "How did you do that?"
Mercedes shrugged. "Let's just say that it came with the radiation and leave it at that."
Veronica happily shouted and beamed to him. "That was soooooo awesome! You literally kicked their butts with those moves of yours!"
"Thanks." Mercedes replied.
After Caesar commended him, everyone left for their respective places. Six and her brother decided to take a stroll on the beachhead of Cottonwood Cove.
"So I'm guessing you have quite an adventure to tell me." Mercedes started the conversation."
"It all started when I was supposed to carry a package containing the Platinum Chip..." Six began her tale..
Then she told him how she helped out many people, regardless of their faction and ultimately sided with the Legion. She told him about the Burned Man and Zion. She told him about the horrors of the Sierra Madre. She told him about the mysterious mad science of Big Mountain. She told him about the legacy of the Divide and her meeting with Ulysses. She finally confessed that she launched the missiles at the Long 15.
Mercedes raised an eyebrow at that and said. "Under normal circumstances I'd scold you for that but it seems that you have unlock my powers so in a way you've done me a service and I'll look past that. Just this once."
Six explained further. "Thanks to me, Caesar is ruling over an Empire and I'm in charge of maintaining it by coordinating with my allies and Companions. It's been tiresome work but I manage. Always have."
Mercedes sighed. "You can't hope to solve all the problems of the Wasteland in one day or maybe a year or so. Not even our parents can accomplish such a feat."
Six nodded. "Suggestion noted brother."
Six continued to explain her many adventures to her brother which he listened with great interest and they finally went back to the Lucky 38 to rest.
